JOCK, www.jockmovie.com, is a feature length documentary about the first generation of female jockeys. In the late ‘60s and early ‘70s these women fought for the right to ride professionally.

Legendary Jockeys to Appear at the International Equestrian Festival

Ron Turcotte, Jean Cruguet, Steve Cauthen, Pat Day and Calvin Borel available for autographs

Lexington, KY (September 29, 2010) – The Pre-Vent Feeders International Equestrian Festival presented by HRTV today announced several special appearances planned to showcase Kentucky’s proud Thoroughbred heritage. Autograph sessions by legendary jockeys Ron Turcotte, Jean Cruguet, Steve Cauthen, Pat Day and Calvin Borel, and a special signing by Kate Tweedy of her book, “Secretariat’s Meadow,” take place at the Horze stage and display at the International Equestrian Festival, which runs now through October 10 at the downtown Lexington Convention Center.

Sunday, October 3
1:30 p.m. – Triple Crown winning jockeys Ron Turcotte, Jean Cruguet and Steve Cauthen will share with festival goers reflections on their celebrated careers.

2:00 – 4:30 p.m. – Ron Turcotte, Jean Cruguet and Steve Cauthen autograph session

After the Finish Line presents their Annual Charity Fundraiser, “A Tribute to the Majesty of Thoroughbreds,” on Thursday, August 5th at the Hilton Hotel in Del Mar, CA. We will host a reception, silent & live auctions and dinner. ATFL is a funding non-profit dedicated to saving, rehabilitating and caring for rescued Thoroughbred horses who can no longer race or breed. Contaminated Horse Meat a Health Risk, According to Study

April 2, 2010 – CHICAGO (EWA) – A peer reviewed scientific study tracing race horses sent to slaughter for human consumption has found that 100% of the horses in the study group had been administered phenylbutazone, a banned carcinogen that can also fatally damage the bone marrow of humans. The findings appear to validate the European Union’s recent tightening of traceability requirements on horse meat from third countries.

The paper, titled Association of phenylbutazone usage with horses bought for slaughter: A public health risk, appeared in the journal Food and Chemical Toxicology and calls into question the reliability of the USDA (US Department of Agriculture) and CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) testing programs which have consistently failed to detect the substance.

The manuscript[1], which was authored by Drs. Nicholas Dodman[2], Nicolas Blondeau[3] and Ann M. Marini[4], followed eighteen Thoroughbred (TB) race horses that were identified by matching their registered name to their race track drug record over a five year period and were given phenylbutazone (PBZ, Bute) on race day and were subsequently sent to slaughter for human consumption.
