It’s not too late! You have one day to save 400 mustangs in the Great Divide Basin HMA in Wyoming’s Red Desert. Please act now…

Dear Friends & Supporters,
The Interior Department’s Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is asking for public comments on its proposal to remove 600 wild horses from the Great Basin Divide Herd Management Area (HMA) in Wyoming’s Red Desert region. The BLM says that this 1,215 square area can only sustain 415 to 600 horses. BLM claims 1,000 mustangs live in the area. Meanwhile, the BLM authorizes thousands of cattle to graze this same area. According to BLM statistics, Wyoming has the second highest wild horse population in the nation, yet the latest available BLM population figures (FY 2009) estimate just 5,000 horses. The state has reduced the areas where wild horses are allowed to roam by nearly half in the last four decades and aims reduce the overall population further to just 3,700 horses. Less than three months ago, BLM captured and removed over 2,000 wild horses from another area of Wyoming’s pristine Red Desert region in the Adobe Town and Salt Wells Creek Herd Management Areas.

Urge the BLM to implement a fertility control program instead of a capture and removal operation, and undertake a process to increase Appropriate Management Levels (AMLs) for wild horses and decrease livestock grazing in this federally-designated wild horse area.  Please personalize the message below.

Please Take Action Today to Postpone the Antelope Complex Wild Horse Gather at the Future Eco-Sanctuary Site

Dear Friends,
So many of you often ask me what you can do to help the wild horses. Here is what you can do. The BLM has publicly stated in a press release that they have plans “to gather and remove approximately 1,917 to 2,278 excess wild horses from in and around the Antelope Complex.”

I have previously submitted a proposal to Bob Abbey to postpone this gather that directly affects the wild horses on the future site of the eco-sanctuary that we are developing in Nevada and allow me to construct my own holding facilities on the private lands that I have already purchased for the horses, which are adjacent to the Antelope Complex. This would also be a considerable savings to American taxpayers and the government in many ways.

The BLM Agrees to Support Madeleine Pickens’ Wild Horse Eco-Sanctuary

“A Dream Come True!”

Dear Our Fabulous Wild Horse Supporters,
We are SO excited to FINALLY announce the best news we have had to share with you in over 2 1/2 years!

OUR MUSTANGS ARE GETTING THEIR SANCTUARY AND HAVE THE BLM’S SUPPORT!

Over the past three days, I have been to meetings in Sacramento and again in Washington, DC.  I’ve met with BLM Director, Bob Abbey, and Deputy Director, Mike Pool, along with the Wild Horse and Burro team. The BLM has officially agreed to support going forward with the development of the wild horse Eco-sanctuary for the horses in holding! Also in DC, I met with Congressman Jim Moran, who had already given his blessing, but is submitting legislation to members of Congress on behalf of these wild mustangs. We are so thankful to him and his staff for their efforts on the wild horse and burro issue. All the meetings were fabulous and we could not be happier about the news!

The Public Has Spoken – Our Pony Express Goal Has Been Exceeded!

Dear Supporters,

Wow! What amazing supporters we have! On August 1st, we gave you a goal of 20,000 letters to take with us for our Pony Express Mustang Delivery to Washington. Our deadline was set for September 1st.

We just wanted to let you know that we have completely blown our goal out of the water with the overwhelming response from so many wild horse supporters! Just over this past weekend, we received 7,234 letters from so many of you, which brings our current count to 26, 995!

*Keep the letters coming and each of you can stand as a voice for each individual mustang that has been rounded up by the Bureau of Land Management and the ones left on the range. We are their voices, their spokespeople.

We’ve Heard You – Get on Board the Pony Express by September 1st!

Dear Friends, Supporters, and Future Supporters,

We have heard you voice your complaints about the roundups.

We have listened to you share so many of your personal stories about your own adopted mustangs.

We have all sent thousands of letters via fax, email, and USPS to our Government officials, even to the point of their phone lines being unplugged and emails shut down due to the high volume of wild horse supporters on this issue.

We are doing all of these things daily, but there still has been NO change.

It’s time for the PONY EXPRESS!

I will personally hand deliver each and every letter that you write, via the Pony Express (one of our beautiful mustangs), to Washington DC. I am setting a goal of 20,000 individual letters to take with me. Americans, international supporters, animal activists, anyone who would like to tell President Obama, Secretary Salazar, and Bob Abbey that we aren’t going to sit by waiting until these roundups are over is encouraged to write. This is a very important issue to hundreds of thousands of people that have pleaded with our government to stop gathering our wild horses.  This way they cannot unplug their phones, make their website impossible to send a comment to, or delete emails. These are GOING to get to Washington. I promise you that!

Update on Wild Horses, Roundups, Letters to Obama, Interviews with Madeleine Pickens

Dear Friends and Supporters,
Unfortunately, the BLM summer roundups have resumed and the current death count of the horses at Tuscarora is now nearly two dozen.  However, on the upside, it has been a really busy week in the media for our horses getting the attention they deserve. Saving America’s Mustangs’ spokesperson Jerry Reynoldson and I spoke on the Thom Hartmann Radio Show about the BLM roundups yesterday. The link to the video of the interview is below. Also, George Knapp did a fantastic investigative report into the Tuscarora Roundup. Please take some time to view both and please keep generating awareness to each and every person that you can.  Already this month we have had 10,466 letters sent out to President Obama and our government officials imploring them to suspend the roundups. Thank you all so much for joining us in this special cause! Let’s set a goal of 12,500 letters sent by the end of July. Please keep forwarding the Take Action links on www.savingamericasmustangs.org to your friends and contacts. The American horses need us to prevail… and we will do just that!

Madeleine Pickens Hosts a Tribute to the Native American & Horse Nation

Dear Friends,

On May 20th, Boone and I hosted a Tribute to the Native American & Horse Nation at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the Native American in Washington, DC.  It was an unforgettable evening to celebrate America’s heritage by honoring the American Mustang, the Native American and our Military.  The United States Navy band greeted our presidential level guests and we presented five retired Military Working Dogs that served our country.  Their presence and the applause were heartwarming.  Chief Arvol Looking Horse from the Lakota Nation offered a traditional Lakota blessing before dinner and “Justice,” one of my beautiful mustangs, bowed his head after hearing the prayer.  It was a very emotional experience and the tears were flowing.  Grammy nominee and eight-time Native American Music Awards winner Jana Mashonee, American Idol alum Katharine McPhee, and opera singer Josh Page provided wonderful entertainment throughout the evening.  Also present during the National Anthem was Challenger, the American Bald Eagle.  I invite you all to view the trailer of the event by clicking on the image above.  On my website, www.savingamericasmustangs.org, is a full video of the highlights of this spectacular celebration of our American heritage.

Thank you, as always, for your support.

Best,
Madeleine
