Santiago Lambre Storms to NetJets Grand Prix CSI2* Win

Wellington, FL – January 18, 2020 – Mexico’s Santiago Lambre rode Cetano van Aspergem Z to a speedy victory in the $73,000 NetJets Grand Prix CSI2* on Saturday, January 18, during “Saturday Night Lights” at the 2020 Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) at Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Wellington, FL.

Clears were hard to come by in the opening round set by course designer Oscar Soberon (MEX). A tight time allowed was first bested by Lillie Keenan (USA) riding Fasther, a mount that lived up to its name and led the way. Keenan was joined by five more riders, setting the stage for a six-horse speed duel over the second round’s short course.

Rails fell for both Keenan and fellow U.S. rider Todd Minikus, riding Calvalou, before U.S. team Olympic gold medalist McLain Ward set the pace on a clear round in 43.60 seconds aboard Jet Blue. His time, however, was quickly beat when Lambre and Cetano van Aspergem Z stopped the clock in 40.22 seconds.

“This horse is naturally fast,” said Lambre of the horse he has been competing internationally for almost three years. “I tried to not lose my mind, and I tried to keep a good, nice rhythm. The horse, at this level, can be very fast, and tonight it was.”

Becky Gochman and Last Man Darling Capture Championship in Equiline Amateur-Owner Hunter 3’3” 36 & Over

The Equiline Amateur-Owner Hunter 3’3” 36 & Over division came to an end on Saturday with Becky Gochman and Last Man Darling earning the title of champion. Gochman piloted Last Man Darling, owned by Gochman Sport Horses LLC, to two firsts, a third, a fifth, and a sixth-place ribbon.

This championship was an extra-special one for Gochman, of Wellington, FL. This season is the mare’s return to the show ring after an injury sidelined them for two years. This was the pair’s second week showing again. “Last week she was a little excited, and I was a little nervous; this week we both calmed down and took a breath,” Gochman described.

Last Man Darling has been in the Gochman family for close to five years. “She started off with my girls, Sophie and Mimi, in the junior hunters, and then I began to show her successfully in the 3’3” amateur-owners,” Gochman explained.

Santiago Lambre Continues Winning Streak with Cetano Van Aspergem Z

Wellington, FL – December 23, 2019 – Santiago Lambre of Mexico continued his winning streak this Sunday during the ESP Holiday III show, this time claiming the blue ribbon aboard Cetano Van Aspergem Z in the $25,000 Semican National Grand Prix. With the fastest time of 42.063 seconds and no faults in the jump-off, Lambre beat Canadian Ian Millar and Future Adventures’ Christiano, after the pair completed the jump-off time of 44.041 seconds to claim second place. Lambre returned for the yellow ribbon aboard his entry, Diathago, after their 45.707-second jump-off.

Out of the 25 trips that entered the course designed by Jasen Shelly, only eight competitors returned to contest the second round, and the top three were the only horse-and-rider combinations to put in a double-clear performance. “In the first round, I think the line at the beginning gave a lot of people trouble,” commented Lambre. “It was in between seven or eight strides, so if you weren’t on the distance you could’ve had some trouble. Then when a triple combination at the end of the course is always difficult too.”

Cetano Van Aspergem Z is one of Lambre’s own horses, with which he has a very successful track record: “I’m very happy with how he went. He’s not green, usually competes at the five-star level, but I’m still working to get him fit for season. So the track for him the track was a bit easier for him and he’s very fast.” When asked about holiday plans, Lambre mentioned that he’ll just take three days off before they’re all back work and competing at ESP’s New Year’s Show on December 27.

Santiago Lambre and Doloris Win Again in the $25,000 ProElite National Grand Prix

Wellington, FL – December 19, 2019 – Santiago Lambre of Mexico dominated the field in Thursday’s $25,000 ProElite National Grand Prix, taking home both the first and second-place finish to conclude the ESP Holiday II competition at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center [PBIEC]. Lambre and his Doloris flew through the jump-off timers in 40.113 seconds to clinch an early lead, while he and his Ibabco put in a jump-off time of 43.839 seconds to secure second place. Darragh Kerins of Ireland piloted NRG Farm LLC’s Delight M-G C de Leuze through the jump-off track in 47.396 seconds to claim third.

FEI course designer Mauricio Garcia Ballesteros of Puerto Rico saw 25 pairs contest the first round with eight returning for the jump-off. “It was a nice course for a national standard [grand prix], especially for my horses after having three weeks off. It was technical and the time allowed was okay,” Lambre shared. “With the first one [Doloris], I took a lot of risks. Then after that, there weren’t that many clear, so I just tried to jump clear and stay between first and third with Ibabco.

Lambre explained that he has big plans for the upcoming WEF season: “I’m going to keep jumping the horses that I want to start for WEF 1. I have a plan to jump all of the five stars with Cetano and/or Diathago, and maybe some Nations Cups. Doloris will continue to do the medium classes and maybe the 1.50m. I don’t push her too much because she’s very competitive at this level.”

ESP Fall Series Wraps with Win by Santiago Lambre and Doloris in $25k Pilates Rocks Grand Prix

Wellington, FL – November 19, 2019 – Last weekend, the ESP Fall Series came to a conclusion with the ESP Pre-Charity show held from November 15-17 at the main grounds of Palm Beach International Equestrian Center. Santiago Lambre of Mexico secured the blue ribbon of Sunday’s $25,000 Pilates Rocks Grand Prix aboard his exceptional mount, Doloris, after completing the jump-off in 44.862 seconds. Hector Florentino of the Dominican Republic and Carjo Z, owned by Scott Head, flew through the timers in just 44.875 seconds with four faults to claim second place. Rounding out the top three champions was Theo Genn of Lebanon, OH with Chaccomo 11, owned by Bridlebourne Stables, LLC, once they stopped the clock at 47.812 seconds with four faults.

Sunday’s feature class was designed by Hector Loyola. A total of 23 pairs contested the first track, while only four competitors returned for the jump-off. “I think only four clear [riders] is a good number for how many were in the class total,” Lambre commented after his win. “And the course was quite technical this week, especially that last line, so I think that’s what got several horses with the rails. The footing feels really good, and it was a great improvement for the horses ahead of the winter season.”

Lambre won this weekend’s feature class with his 2008 Dutch Warmblood mare, Doloris, who had great success this summer season: “This year she has won everything! In Tryon, New York, Michigan, she’s always competitive and has been going really well the last few months.” The popular pair will continue to reside in Wellington, FL through the ESP Holiday Series and into the new year for the 2020 Winter Equestrian Festival.

On Friday, the $10,000 Pilates Rocks 1.40m Open Stake was bested by Mark Bluman of Colombia and his mount Arcange De L’arc after completing the jump-off in 42.229 seconds. Taking second place was Santiago Lambre of Mexico aboard his Doloris with a 44.084-second jump-off. Todd Minikus of Lake Worth, FL rode his Juju VDM to a third-place finish after completing the jump-off in 48.332 seconds.

Santiago Lambre and Con Rouet Clinch the Win in $5,000 Horseware Ireland Welcome Stake

Mill Spring, NC – October 1, 2019 – Santiago Lambre (Wellington, FL) and Con Rouet claimed Thursday’s $5,000 Horseware Ireland Welcome Stake after finishing the jump-off in a time of 41.829 seconds to kick off Tryon Fall 2 competition at Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC) at Tryon Resort. Johan Kachelhoffer (Princeton, NJ) aboard his own Copit Della Caccia, a 2008 Italian Warmblood stallion (Copito x Campbell), finished in second place with a jump-off time of 43.187 seconds, while Grant Seger (Corpus Christi, TX) piloted the Grey Fox Crossing-owned Dr. J, a 2008 Italian Warmblood gelding (Diamant de Semilly x Calando I), to round out the podium on a time of 41.369 seconds to earn third.

Course designer Nick Granat (Chicago, IL) had 12 horse-and-rider pairs in the initial round and welcomed back four entries in the jump-off. Although Lambre and the 2010 Oldenburg gelding (Conthargos x Balou Du Rouet) owned by Salvador Onate Barron came out in the lead after their final round, Con Rouet has been getting a break from jumping “as much” while Lambre competed at Saugerties, NY.

“Although this is his first week [back] now, Con Rouet is a super careful horse and very competitive,” Lambre explained. “The first round was not easy, especially for a national welcome, and I was not super-fast [in the jump-off] since there were only four, but it ended up being a good risk since the last rider [Grant Seger] was faster but had the last rail down.”

Con Rouet did not compete in Fall 2 competition following his win, but Lambre did return to Tryon Stadium for a win aboard Diathago in Saturday’s $25,000 Carolina Arena Equipment Grand Prix. “I’m preparing Con Rouet for Wellington to have him ready to do the speed classes there. I think his level is gonna be 1.45m, but that’s okay because if he’s fast it’s good. He’s going to be a really competitive horse,” Lambre concluded.

Gavin Moylan and String of Pearls Claim Champion in the Pulse Equine Performance Hunter Combined 3’3”/3’6” Division

The Pulse Equine Performance Hunter Combined 3’3”/3’6” Division saw Gavin Moylan (Middleburg, VA) and Priscilla Denegre’s String of Pearls come out on top for champion honors, while Colleen Acosta (Roanoke, TX) piloted Olive, owned by Ryann Grissom, to reserve honors.

Moylan shared that String of Pearls, who is owned by his wife’s mother, has been a member of his program for about five years and has been very successful. “I found her [String of Pearls] in Germany as a four-year-old and immediately she suited my wife’s mother, Penny Denegre, who has had horses with me for a long time and is a great supporter of this sport. She’s just been a winner since we’ve had her.”

Although Moylan enjoys showing the mare himself, he explained that “it’s really about Penny this year,” and that his main goal for String of Pearls is simply to prepare her to compete at the upcoming indoor shows. “Penny qualified for Harrisburg and Washington [International Horse Show], which is a big deal in the adults and we’re very excited for her to go there.”

Santiago Lambre and Diathago Deliver $25,000 Carolina Arena Equipment Grand Prix Victory

Mill Spring, NC – September 28, 2019 – Santiago Lambre (Wellington, FL) and Diathago sped to win the $25,000 Carolina Arena Equipment Grand Prix at Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC), halting the jump-off timers at 40.372 seconds. Tiffany Hammack (Hawthorn Woods, IL) and Crack Elle Chavannaise, a 2008 Belgian Sporthorse mare (Carving x Unknown) owned by Beyaert Farm Inc, took second place for their performance of 40.734 seconds, while Theo Genn (Lebanon, OH) and Firewall, a 2010 Dutch Warmblood gelding (Lexicon x Padinus) owned by Eduardo Leon, claimed third-place honors with a time of 40.822 seconds.

“Diathago is a new horse I’ve had now for two months. I jumped him three weeks ago in the 5* Grand Prix in Saugerties, which we won. We were one of only two pairs clear; it was a really tough course,” Lambre said. “Now I’m preparing him for the 5* here in three weeks.”

The course, designed by Nick Granat (Chicago, IL), challenged 29 pairs, with eight returning to pilot the short course. “It was a really nice course for a National Standard Grand Prix,” Lambre shared. “I think it was tough enough, but didn’t have terrible results.

“I wanted to jump under the lights with him [Diathago] since he’s never done that before, but he wasn’t spooky at all,” Lambre, who has big hopes for the 2009 Oldenburg gelding (Diarado x Carthago) owned by Gestut Lewitz, revealed. “The plan is next year to do the Nations Cup in Wellington and I also think this horse has the potential for the Olympics.”

Santiago Lambre and Doloris Dominate $25,000 Tryon Resort Grand Prix

Mill Spring, NC – September 21, 2019 – Santiago Lambre (Wellington, FL) and Doloris out-jumped a tough field to claim the win in the $25,000 Tryon Resort Grand Prix at Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC), clearing the short course in 33.462 seconds. Allen Nabors Jr. (Odessa, FL) and Bon Chatsworth Pierre, a 2011 Zangersheide gelding (Revaou de La Bergerie x Little Rock) owned by Jessie Grabowski and Allen Nabors, secured second with a 34.324-second jump-off round, while Taylor Land (Atlanta, GA) and Falco V, the 2010 Dutch Warmblood gelding (Bustique x Montreux) owned by Pinetree Farms Inc., rounded out the podium on a time of 35.282 seconds to earn third.

J.  P. Godard (Aiken, SC) tested 33 horse-and-rider pairs over his course design, with 11 entries qualifying for the jump-off round. Lambre and the 2008 Dutch Warmblood mare (Harley VDL x Colorado D) owned by Aurora Rangel De Alba are prepping for a competitive stint at TIEC following recent success at Saugerties NY, making this victory a back-to-back win for the mare, Lambre explained.

“Tonight’s was the only class she jumped this week, so it was a good week for her! She came from a victory at Saugerties in an FEI class, which was the last show she did. It was a really nice course for a national Grand Prix. It was a really nice first round, and I think it was fine for 11 riders to be clear. The jump-off was really nice, with options [to each fence].”

The Tryon Fall series kicks off with two weeks of national competition, followed by four consecutive weeks of FEI show jumping competition, and Lambre was excited to have had a positive first week of preparation, he shared. “I wanted the horses to come early now to jump in the night classes before FEI competition, and it’s good preparation for them. At the same time, I try to keep the horses fit and fast, and prepared for the next week or so when it gets a little tougher.”

The jump-off proved challenging for the 11 pairs who attempted it, with six going double-clear, and Lambre piloting Ibabco, the 2008 Belgian Warmblood stallion (Nabab de Reve x Darco) owned by Santiago Lambre & Stephex Stables, to eighth place on a four-fault round.

“I knew there were some fast riders in the jump-off,” said Lambre, “so I tried to ride as fast as possible without losing my mind, like I did with Ibabco [to have one down]. But it’s okay – you have to go full-speed to win; you cannot leave room!”

Doloris will take a week off competition next week, but Lambre has her aimed at two and five-star competition in the weeks upcoming. “She’ll do the 2* week [Tryon Fall 3], and then maybe the 5* [Tryon Fall 5]. This place is great, and the new footing [upgrades] are amazing. Always, everything is perfect here. I think it’s going to be a great four or five weeks,” he concluded.

Santiago Lambre Claims $25,000 Tryon Resort Grand Prix Win

Mill Spring, NC – August 19, 2019 – Santiago Lambre (Wellington, FL) and Con Rouet claimed Sunday’s $25,000 Tryon Resort Grand Prix at Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC) at Tryon Resort to conclude Tryon August 2 competition at the venue, laying down a jump-off time of 36.95 seconds. Taylor Land (Atlanta, GA) and Falco V, the Pinetree Farms Inc.-owned 2010 Dutch Warmblood gelding (Bustique x Montreux), were back on the TIEC podium with a second-place jump-off time of 37.881 seconds, while David Blake (hometown) piloted Don’t Touch Du Bois, the 2009 Belgian Warmblood mare (Kashmir van Schuttershof x Indoctro) owned by Pine Hollow Farm, to third on a short-course time of 38.896 seconds.

Dean Rheinheimer’s course tested 27 entries in the initial round, with eight horse-and-rider pairs welcomed back to challenge the jump-off track. Last to go, Lambre and the 2010 Oldenburg gelding (Conthargos x Balou Du Rouet) owned by Salvador Onate Barron made easy work of the course despite being newly paired teammates.

“This is the second show I’ve had with him [Con Rouet],” explained Lambre. “He’s a new horse to me, and looks very competitive. I think he’s going to be a winner! I showed him in Michigan one week, and this is the second show. He’s very easy to ride, and careful. I got him three weeks ago from Mexico.”

Lambre and Con Rouet were fourth in Friday’s $5,000 Horseware Ireland Welcome Stake, just missing out on the podium, but found their stride in Sunday’s jump-off course, Lambre detailed. “I thought it was a really nice course. Not too big, but difficult lines, so it was not easy for the riders. The jump-off was really nice,” he continued. “You could turn short and get a nice gallop. It was very nice!”

Competition was stiff, as fellow competitor Land has been on a hot streak at TIEC and had posted a tight time to beat, but Lambre utilized his position in the order of go to study where he could make up the time: “I was the last to go, so I saw the other riders. I had to do everything very short and forward, because it was really fast!”

Taylor Land Continues to Dominate the TIEC Podium with $5,000 Horseware Ireland Welcome Stake Win

Taylor Land (Atlanta, GA) and Falco V sped around the short course in 26.077 seconds to earn the win in Friday’s $5,000 Horseware Ireland Welcome Stake at TIEC, also claiming third place aboard Get Go, piloting the Pinetree Farms Inc. entry and 2012 Hanoverian gelding (Grey Top x World Diamond O) to a 27.496-second jump-off round. Santiago Lambre (Wellington, FL) and Chapiletto, a 2009 Oldenburg gelding (Chacco Blue x Pretty Woman) owned by Luis Gerardo Plascencia y Familia, produced a 27.004-second short course to claim second.

Course designer Dean Rheinheimer (Sheridan, IN) had 26 pairs attempt his first-round track, with nine entries earning a chance to compete over the jump-off course. Continuing her recent trend of three-for-three, Land piloted all three of her mounts through to the second round of competition, ultimately bookending the podium. “The course rode really well. There was a lot to do, so it was fun!” Land said of the course.

“He [Falco V] has just been amazing. He’s such a winner, and he always tries his heart out. He was so speedy today!” she said of the 2010 Dutch Warmblood gelding (Bustique x Montreux) owned by Pinetree Farms Inc. “Falco is nine, and I’ve had him almost three years.”

Land has an impressive trio of horses that have truly hit their stride at TIEC recently and continue to collect consecutive podium placings. Land explained: “We rode complicated courses this summer at Spruce Meadows, and I think that really helped me make some strides this summer. All of the horses are just in a really good place with their age and mentality: Falco is nine, Liroy [30] is ten, and Grumbles [Get Go] is seven, and they’re all just in a really good place. They feel like they’re thriving!”

Get Go in particular has stepped up in the last few weeks, Land shared, competing in his first “Saturday Night Lights” Grand Prix in Tryon Stadium and taking first, despite “just starting to jump at this level,” Land revealed. “He’s just been amazing. This [Ring 4] was a new ring for him, and I am so proud of him! This is for sure the biggest he’s jumped in a smaller ring, so it was really nice to feel him jumping so well. I was a little bit more conservative on him in the jump-off because it was his first time jumping bigger in a smaller place, but he was amazing.”

Land hopes to keep her winning streak alive and will compete at the venue for the duration of the Tryon August Series, giving credit to “Team Land” for her consistent results: “I credit my recent success to having an amazing team, both at home and on the road, including my parents, Jay and Kim, my grooms and rider. They are all incredible and make my job so much easier!”

Lambre Wins $36k Horseware Ireland Welcome Stake CSI 3* with Cetano Van Aspergem Z

Mill Spring, NC – July 18, 2019 – Santiago Lambre (MEX) and Cetano Van Aspergem Z were unbeatable in the $36,000 Horseware Ireland Welcome Stake CSI 3* at Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC) on Thursday morning of Tryon Summer 6, stopping the jump-off timers at 36.867 seconds. Todd Minikus (USA) rode Amex Z, a 2009 Zangersheide mare (Andiamo Z x Landaris) owned by the Bit by Bit Group, to second place on a double-clear round with a jump-off time of 38.067 seconds. Hector Florentino (DOM) and Carnaval, a 2005 Oldenburg gelding (Chacco-Blue x Landadel) owned by Spruce Meadows Ltd, claimed third-place honors with a double-clear effort in 38.317 seconds.

Ken Krome (USA) set the track to test the 31 pairs entered in the competitive 1.50m class. Lambre expressed that it was a good course to prepare for the rest of the week, saying, “It was a really nice course for a Welcome. It was big enough, but it was not too difficult for the first day, and was great preparation for the Grand Prix [Saturday night].” Lambre also shared that he enjoyed having a competitive jump-off with 13 pairs returning: “It was nice to have 13 in the jump-off; it is always nice when the first day has a good number. The jump-off course was very nice, it had lots of options, and was a very good course design.”

The 2009 Zangersheide gelding (Clinton x Ahorn Z) owned by Tal Milstein Stables, will also be competing in the Grand Prix on Saturday night, and Lambre hopes the momentum will carry on throughout the week. “This is the horse [Cetano Van Aspergem Z] that I will be jumping in the Grand Prix on Saturday. [Winning] today was good preparation. Normally, I try not to push him too fast, but I saw the first two or three horses go and I said, ‘I will try,’ and it worked!” Lambre commented.

Santiago Lambre and Ibabco Top the $36,000 1.45m Sunday Classic at Tryon

Mill Spring, NC – May 28, 2019 – Santiago Lambre (MEX) claimed top honors in the $36,000 1.45m Sunday Classic aboard his own Ibabco, a 2008 Belgian Warmblood stallion (Nabab De Reve x Darco), on Sunday, May 26, at Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC). Santiago Lambre stopped the timers in 34.086 seconds to secure the win and conclude Tryon Spring 4 competition at the venue. Kristen Vanderveen (USA) dashed into second place with a time of 34.256 seconds aboard Bull Run’s Almighty (Caspar x Quidam De Revel), owned by Bull Run Jumpers Six LLC. Todd Minikus (USA) placed third riding Amex Z (Andiamo Z x Landaris), owned by Bit By Bit Group, with a time of 34.642 seconds.

Eighteen pairs challenged the course set by Catsy Crux (MEX), with eight returning for the jump-off. Lambre, who had two mounts in the Classic, topped the leaderboard aboard Ibabco. “He’s a very good horse. Normally he would jump in the Grand Prix, but he was almost sold this week, so I didn’t compete him at all throughout the week. Today [Sunday] was his first class. He’ll do the three star next week,” he explained.

Fresh off of Lambre’s win in Saturday night’s $72,000 CaptiveOne Advisors Grand Prix CSI 3* atop his own Cetano Van Aspergem Z, a 2009 Zangersheide gelding (Clinton x Ahorn Z), Lambre enthusiastically noted, “A weekend like this is always unbelievable. The last two weeks in Lexington, I didn’t win one dollar, so it’s nice to have this comeback.”

When asked about his strategy, he commented, “It was a fast jump-off with Kristen [Vanderveen], Samuel [Parot], Todd [Minikus], and Sharn [Wordley], so you have to try everything you can.
