The $10,000 Parlanti Six Bar Class was the featured event in the Olympic Stadium last night at the Georgia International Horse Park in front of a packed VIP tent and spectator lined arena.

The Six Bar Class is a featured favorite and consists of a course of six jumps starting at 1.10 m with the last two jumps set at 1.30 m and raised each round by 10 centimeters. A total of five rounds consisting of one round with four jump offs slowly eliminates the horse and rider teams until a winner or winners are declared. “These classes were very popular years ago and Spruce Meadows continues to produce this event. It’s all about going clear and the riders and spectators just love it,” commented Allen Rheinheimer, Technical Coordinator for the Classic Company and the 2015 World Cup Finals. “We started at 1.10 with the last two at 1.30 and finished off round four with the final fences at 1.70 m [5’6″],” he said.

All nine horse and rider teams turned in clear first round efforts and it wasn’t until the second round with fence five and six at 1.40 that the rails started to drop and the elimination procedure began.

First out in the second round, with rails at the five and six 1.40 m jumps was Return to Eden, owned and ridden by Erin Rayburn of Lookout Mountain, Georgia.  They would finish in ninth place overall.

The third jump off phase picked up the final two fence heights to 1.50. Paul Mcrae of Alpharetta, Georgia and Jacob Pope’s Blizzerd were eliminated and finished in eighth place. San Francisco Stables’ Quintus Fabius, ridden by Luis Larrazabal of Wellington, Florida, and Palm Sunday, owned by Amen Corner Farm, LLC and ridden by Tyler Frey of Jacksonville, Florida, both had rails and would tie for sixth place.

Only five remained for the fourth phase and the jumps were raised to 1.60 m. Jared Petersen of Archer, Florida and Derek Petersen’s Cornerstone were the first eliminated and would be joined by Kyle Dewar of Ocala, Florida and his own Russell as well as Courtney Osborne of Marietta, Georgia and her own Hibiscus.  The trio tied for third place.

Last to go in round five was Cooper Dean of Fayette, Alabama and William Upton’s Wee Quidam-Quidam. The crowd cheered as the duo cleared the last of the six jumps now set at 1.70 m! Sabischy Hassler of Wellington, Florida and Luis Muro’s Raino Du Jardin followed Dean and the crowd went wild when they also went clear, creating a tie for first place.

“That was so much fun!” they both commented. Bob Bell, President of Classic Company, said, “This class is enjoyed by everyone here at the show. We are excited that it was sponsored by Parlanti and we appreciate them being here to experience the Six Bar excitement.”
