Wellington, Fla. – May 3, 2016 – The United States Equestrian Team (USET) Foundation is pleased to announce that this year’s recipient of the Pinnacle Cup Trophy at the Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event CCI**** is Lauren Kieffer of Middleburg, Va. Kieffer rode her mount Veronica to a second place finish overall and as the highest ranked American rider, ultimately earning her the trophy.

This is Kieffer’s second time receiving the Pinnacle Cup after being the top placed American rider at Rolex in 2014. When she received the Pinnacle Cup in 2014, she was also riding Veronica, her seasoned 14-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare owned by Team Rebecca.

“I think she’s quite a beast, that one,” Kieffer said of Veronica. “She’s very competitive in her own head and always has been. We’ve certainly gotten a lot more experience under both of our belts. She’s a very confident horse, and a very mentally competitive horse. She genuinely understands the game and knows what she has to deliver in all three phases. She really fights for it each day.”

Kieffer and Veronica kicked off Rolex with a 43.9 penalty score in Dressage. Her score cumulated to a 51.5 after the Cross country round, navigating the deep and muddy track to search for good ground. The pair ended with a final score of 52.5 after finishing a double clear show jumping round, with one time fault. Kieffer finished behind Germany’s Michael Jung riding FischerRocana FST, clinching the USEF CCI4* National Championship.

On receiving the Pinnacle Cup, Kieffer said, “It feels good. It feels like it validates my program and my team. The first time was a bit of a pleasant surprise, but now we kind of know that our program is working and we can deliver results consistently.”

Kieffer continued, “A big thank to Veronica’s owners, Team Rebecca, and also my other horses’ owners, Monte Carlo, Jacquelin Mars and my team. We certainly couldn’t do it without everyone in our barn and all the support staff.”

With the Rio Olympic Games right around the corner, it would appear that Kieffer and Veronica are contenders to represent the United States. Kieffer can hopefully leverage her success at Rolex as a stepping-stone toward the Olympic dream.

“We went into Rolex and knew we had to deliver and show a consistent performance and she came out of it great,” she said. “We really haven’t planned anything past this weekend. She’ll enjoy a holiday; she came out of the weekend really well, and we’ll just kind of start planning for the summer and fall in the next few weeks.”

USET Foundation Awards Pinnacle Cup to Lauren Kieffer

Lexington, KY – April 30, 2014 – The USET Foundation is pleased to announce that this year’s recipient of the Pinnacle Cup Trophy at the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event CCI**** is Lauren Kieffer of Middleburg, VA. Kieffer rode Veronica to a second place finish at the prestigious event and was the highest placed American rider, which earned her the trophy.

Veronica is a 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare owned by Team Rebecca, LLC. Although Kieffer only took over the reins from Olympians Karen O’Connor a year ago, the duo has already developed a strong partnership. They finished with 46.7 penalties in the dressage phase and continued to move up the rankings after completing a clear cross-country phase. The pressure was on when they returned for stadium jumping on the final day. The pair was perfect though, completing a double clear round to finish on their dressage score, taking home the second place honors overall behind William Fox-Pitt, and earning the Rolex/USEF National CCI4* Championship title.

“I am thrilled,” smiled Kieffer. “Veronica could not have gone any better. It’s what we work for every day for years and years, and other riders have worked just as hard, if not harder. I am thrilled that it happened to be my day.”

Kieffer continued, “Veronica is a really talented mare. She’s a real fighter, and she’s very competitive in her own head. She always wants to go out there and play the game, which is really nice. I got the ride on her after Karen was injured at the beginning of last year, and so we spent that time getting to know each other and we’ve gotten along really well from the beginning. It really came together at Kentucky.”

Looking ahead, Kieffer is heading to the Jersey Fresh International Three-Day Event next, where she will be riding Jacqueline Mars’ RF Cosima and Shannon O’Roark’s Lucky Devil.

Kieffer also hopes to make the team for the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Normandy, France. “It would be really amazing, and it’s definitely a goal,” she explained. “There is a lot of depth to the U.S. Team right now. There are a lot of horses to choose from that did really well this past weekend and a lot of horse and rider pairs in Europe competing soon. It’s a goal, and I will be thrilled if I get a chance at it. Once Veronica has had a break we will come out and try to be as good as we were in Kentucky.”

USET Foundation Awards Pinnacle Cup to Buck Davidson, Jr.

Lexington, KY – May 8, 2013 – The USET Foundation is pleased to announce that this year’s recipient of the Pinnacle Cup Trophy at the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event CCI**** is Bruce O. Davidson, Jr. of Riegelsville, PA, and Ocala, FL. Davidson, known as “Buck,” rode Ballynoe Castle RM to a fourth place finish at the prestigious event and was the highest placed American rider, which earned him the trophy.

This marks the third year that Davidson has earned the coveted award, taking home the Pinnacle Cup in 2009 and 2003. Ballynoe Castle RM, a 13-year-old Belgian Warmblood/Irish Thoroughbred cross-owned by Carl and Cassandra Segal, traveled to England as an alternate for the United States Eventing Olympic squad in 2008 and represented the U.S. at the 2010 World Equestrian Games. This year the pair finished with 45.2 penalties in the Dressage phase, and then moved up from eighth place after completing a clear cross country phase. They had eight faults over the technical stadium jumping track on the final day to finish with 53.2 faults in the fourth place position.

“This is my third year winning the award, which is really wonderful, although I’d really like to win the event,” laughed Davidson. “It was a great weekend and all of my horses were fantastic. I just feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to win the Pinnacle Cup more than one time.”

Davidson and Ballynoe Castle RM are a veteran duo and Davidson felt very confident on his seasoned mount. “I had two other really nice horses that went before Ballynoe Castle that are just less experienced, so I was able to go around the cross country course twice before showing him,” he explained. “He’s maybe not the fastest horse, but he has a lot of experience. I started off quickly and jumped all the fences safely and it just worked out perfectly. I couldn’t have had a better ride; he gave me everything he had.”

Davidson added, “Ballynoe Castle is a once in a lifetime horse. I started him from the beginning. He’s 13 now, and he’s been competing at the advanced level since he was eight. I’m just so thankful and so lucky to be partnered with an unbelievable horse. It’s been a dream ride and I don’t really want to wake up from the dream. I want to have him for a long time, so whatever he tells me he is feeling is what we are going to do. This horse does not owe me anything.”

Looking ahead, Davidson is aiming for the CIC at World Equestrian Festival in Aachen, Germany. “CICs are really his thing because he’s a little bit shorter, so that would be an exciting trip to go on. Then we’ll see. Obviously I’d like to go to the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Normandy, France, whether it’s with Ballynoe Castle or any of my other mounts.”

USET Foundation Presents Pinnacle Cup to Allison Springer

USET Foundation Trustee Bruce Duchossois presents Allison Springer with the USET Foundation's Pinnacle Cup Trophy as the highest placed American rider at the 2012 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event CCI**** with her mount, Arthur. Photo by: Nancy Jaffer

Lexington, KY – May 2, 2012 – The United States Equestrian Team Foundation is pleased to announce that this year’s recipient of the Pinnacle Cup Trophy at the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event CCI**** is Allison Springer of Upperville, VA. Springer and her horse Arthur were the highest placed U.S. pair, finishing in second place at the top event, held April 29-29, 2012. Her remarkable score earned her the Pinnacle Cup Trophy, the red ribbon finish and the prize for best-conditioned horse.

Springer was thrilled to take the second place honors, especially since she has been working diligently with her 13-year-old Irish Sport Horse, Arthur. The pair performed beautifully throughout all three phases, taking the lead during the dressage phase. Springer and eventual champion, William Fox-Pitt of Great Britain, went neck-to-neck as they fought for the top spot.

Springer rode Arthur through a careful track on the cross-country course, taking a long route through the angled brushes to assure themselves no jumping faults. Her conservative approach did incur time penalties, but she concluded the phase with a score of 43 and only 3.2 time faults. A four-fault total in the show jumping arena meant that Fox-Pitt, secured the top spot, but Springer’s overall performance was right at the top of the leader board.

USET Foundation Presents Pinnacle Cup to Sinead Halpin

Lexington, KY – May 19, 2011 – The USET Foundation is pleased to announce that this year’s recipient of the Pinnacle Cup Trophy at the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event CCI**** is Sinead Halpin of Gladstone, NJ. Halpin rode Manoir de Carneville to a third place finish at the top event and was the highest placed American rider, which earned her the trophy.

Manoir de Carneville is owned by Carrig, LLC. This was his first CCI****, and the 11-year-old Selle Francais gelding showcased his skills in all three phases. They finished the difficult competition with a score of 53.1 after incurring just 4.4 time faults in the cross-country phase.

This was also Halpin’s first time competing at a CCI**** and she was thrilled with her mount’s performance. “He’s very good in all three phases, which is rare,” she explained. “I don’t think there is one that he excels at more than the others, he’s great across the page. He has an unusual jumping style, but he’s got the heart and the brains, and he’s very physically athletic. At Rolex he felt great; it didn’t feel like it was a push for him.”
