Time to Show Jumping at Equestrian Festival Baborówko

The cross country course has proven to be difficult in the CIC3* competition for the award of the patron Mr. Roman Roszkiewicz during the Equestrian Festival in Baborówko, as only two pairs finished without penalty points and in time: Oliver Townend (GBR) aboard Cillnabradden Evo and Maxime Livio (FRA) with Pica d’Or. The leader of the FEI ranking has taken the lead after dressage and kept it for the following day, finishing the cross country course without mistakes on obstacles and in time: 6:55 minutes. Before showjumping the British eventer has a 4,5 point advantage over Maxime Livio (FRA).

Maxime Livio (FRA) can certainly be happy. After dressage in the CIC3* the French rider was fourth with Opium de Verieres, 20th with Pica d’Or and 34th with Vitorio du Montet. After the challenging cross country course, Livio is second with Pica d’Or (finishing clear and in time) and 18th aboard Vitorio du Montet (with 14,4 penalty points for going over the time limit).

Andreas Dibowski (GER) has jumped from ninth to third position in the CIC3* competition (for the prize of the patron of the competition Mr Roman Roszkiewicz). The athlete has finished the cross country without any mistakes on the obstacles, but with a small penalty of 1,6 points for exceeding the time allowed.

Tim Price (NZL) was eliminated in CIC3* with Pats Jester as he fell off the horse in the second part of the cross country. The rider and the horse are feeling good.

CIC2* – the trophy of Kuhn Maszyny Rolnicze has a new leader: Mateusz Kiempa (POL) and Libertina, who made a really good ride in cross country. On the second place is Senne Vervaecke (BEL) with Jeno. Third place belongs to Andreas Dibowski (GER) on Belfast 35.

The ceremony of CIC1* was held – the trophy of Lotto. Yoshiaki Oiwa (JPN) with Bart L JRA has taken the lead after dressage and kept it for the following day. Second place won Paweł Warszawski (POL) with Frontiera and the third: Mateusz Kiempa (POL) with Ambrozio J.

Maxime Livio (FRA) and Clotaire de Ferivel are leading before show jumping in CICYH1*. Second place belongs to Stephanie Bohe (GER) with Romance P; third place to Paweł Warszawski (POL) and Hummer.

Before Cross Country in Baborówko

It was very exciting day at Equestrian Festival Baborówko. After second part of CIC3* dressage for the prize of the patron of the show Roman Roszkiewicz there is a change at the position of the leader.

In CIC3*, with the total amount of prize money of 80.000 EUR, a new leader is Oliver Townend (GBR) and Cillnabradden Evo. On the second place now is Tim Price (NZL) with Pats Jester. These two riders gave the audience in Baborówko some really great sport emotions. On the third place in CIC3* after dressage is Sara Algotsson Ostholt (SWE) with Wega with only 0,2 points to Tim Price and 1,8 points to the leader of the competition.

Kai Ruder (GER) on Chicago M stands on the pole position after dressage in CIC2*. Second place belongs to Mateusz Kiempa (POL) and Libertina with only 0,4 points to the leader. On the third place is Senne Vervaecke (BEL) with Jeno with 1,7 points to Kai Ruder (GER).

After dressage and showjumping in CIC1* the leader is Yoshiaki Oiwa (JPN) and Bart L JRA. On the second place is now Paweł Warszawski (POL) with Frontiera who did a good ride from fourth place. On the third place before cross country is Anna Doring-Rossler (GER) on Schoccocina.

Maxime Livio (FRA) with Clotaire De Ferivel is the leader of CICYH1* after dressage. On the second place is now Andreas Brandt (GER) with Esra BS with 1,2 points to the leader. Third place belongs to Stephanie Bohe (GER) and Romance P.

Online Live Broadcast of Equestrian Festival Baborówko

Online live broadcasts of the Equestrian Festival Baborówko will be prepared for all tests of 2* and 3* competitions.

The broadcasts will be available on the website of the event (www.festiwal.baborowko.pl) and on social media: Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/festiwal.baborowko/) and YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzfmxVHAbNS8XdcFRmYTV6g), as well as on the Świat Koni website (www.swiatkoni.pl). Dressage tests for both classes will start on Thursday and Friday at 8.30, XC will start on Saturday at 12.15, and show jumping on Sunday at 10.45.

Participation in Equestrian Festival Baborówko had confirmed the best world’s eventer, Oliver Townend (GBR), and some great athletes from the top 100 in FEI Eventing Ranking, among others: Tim Price (2nd in FEI Ranking) representing New Zealand, Maxime Livio (20th in FEI Ranking) representing France, and Andreas Dibowski (39th in FEI Ranking) representing Germany.

Equestrian Festival Baborówko will be held from 24th to 27th of May 2018. The athletes will compete for the total prize money of 100 00 EUR in four international competitions: CIC3*, CIC2*, CIC1* and CICYH1* for young horses 6yo.

Eventing’s World Number One in Baborówko

Oliver Townend (GBR), the best eventer in FEI Eventing Ranking, will participate in Equestrian Festival Baborówko. For the total prize money of 100 000 EUR will also compete such great athletes as among others Maxime Livio (FRA), Andreas Dibowski (GER) and Sara Algotsson Osstholt (SWE).

Oliver Townend is a top British eventer, which has represented Great Britain during international 3* and 4* competitions. The athlete is a three-times team medallist at European Eventing Championships (Strzegom 2017, Fontainebleau 2009, Pratoni del Vivaro 2007). Only this year he has participated in competitions on the highest international level – 4* – two times. In May he competed in the Badminton Horse Trials with two horses, where he was placed as 2nd and 5th, and his last success was winning the CCI4* competition during the Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event in the United States, where he also competed with two horses. He took home first place aboard Cooley Master Class. In 2017 Oliver Townend has won the CCI4* competition in Burghley and has been placed in the first ten at numerous three-star events.

Oliver Townend will bring two horses to Baborówko, Cillnabradden Evo and Dunbeau, with which he will compete in the hardest class of the event – CIC3*.

“It is a great honour for us to host best athletes in the world in Baborówko,” said Henryk Święcicki jr, the director of the show. “We are sure that it will bring great sport emotions to the audience as well as to the athletes.”

Equestrian Festival Baborówko 2018 will be held in a classic format: on Thursday and Friday the riders will compete in dressage, on Saturday, cross country, and on Sunday, showjumping. All prize-giving ceremonies will be held on Sunday.

Athletes from 15 countries will compete in Baborówko and also we will have the pleasure to see 250 horses. Equestrian Festival Baborówko 2018 will be held from 24th to 27th of May in Baborówko (Poland). The competitors will compete for the total prize money of 100 000 EUR in four international competitions: CIC3*, CIC2*, CIC1*, CICYH1*.

Oliver Townend Is New Number One in FEI World Eventing Rankings

Oliver Townend (GBR) is eventing’s new world number one, taking over from longtime leader Michael Jung (GER).

Jung, reigning Olympic champion, has held top spot since the middle of 2015, but he has now been replaced by 35-year-old Townend following his thrilling victory at the Lexington (USA) CCI4* last weekend.

Townend (35) was briefly world number one in 2009 – a stellar year for him when he won the Badminton (GBR) CCI4* and Burghley (GBR) CCI4* titles – and he now reclaims top spot.

And it comes on the eve of this year’s Badminton, where a Townend victory would see him emulate Jung and Pippa Funnell (GBR) in winning the Rolex Grand Slam for consecutive victories at Burghley, Kentucky and Badminton.

“It’s very good. I like the sound of that!” said Townend, following release of the latest FEI World Eventing Rankings.

“It has been a while. I only had a fleeting spell as number one once upon a time, and especially to knock someone off who has been there for so long is very, very good.”

Jung, who was runner-up to Townend at Lexington, is now at number two, just one ranking point behind, with Tim Price (NZL) third, Gemma Tattersall (GBR) fourth and Ros Canter (GBR) fifth.

Oliver Townend Moves into Contention for Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing

30 April 2018, Lexington, USA – Great Britain’s Oliver Townend produced a precision round of show jumping in the final phase of the 2018 Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event to secure his first Kentucky win and set him just one event away from winning the coveted Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing prize.

Townend took first place riding Cooley Master Class, with Michael Jung (GER) riding FischerRocana FST in second, and USA’s Marilyn Little on RF Scandalous in third place.

From the 46 horse and rider combinations who started the competition on day one, 32 horses made it through to start on the final day of competition, with an international field of world-class riders from the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, Australia, Poland and Germany.

With just one fence separating the top four placed competitors in the show jumping, the enthusiastic patriotic spectators in the Rolex Stadium enjoyed a thrilling sporting display.

Oliver Townend was up against many of eventing’s finest riders, including world number one and reigning champion Michael Jung, who had returned to this year’s Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event in a bid to try to set a new record by winning the event for a historic fourth consecutive year, aboard his same horse, FischerRocana FST.

Speaking after his victory and looking ahead to the Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing challenge, Townend said: “Today was incredible. I will just take it one event at a time, but I have two great horses next week at Badminton and it is all to play for now.”

ROLEX LONG-TERM PARTNERSHIP

In 1998 Rolex Kentucky became the third annual CCI4* event in the world and remains the only four-star competition on the American continent. Rolex’s established support has seen the event develop into one of the most prestigious in the world, with top riders from around the globe now vying to compete there.

THE ROLEX GRAND SLAM OF EVENTING CHALLENGE

Since 2001, Rolex has actively supported excellence in the discipline of eventing through the Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing – an award presented to any rider who consecutively wins at the three annual events of the Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event (USA), the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials (UK) and the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials (UK). To this day, the Grand Slam has only been won twice, in 2003 and more recently, in 2016.

All eyes will now be upon Townend to see if he can continue his current world-class form as the live contender for the Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing, with two wins now complete and the final challenge of winning the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials, which starts in just days, to be only the third rider in history to win the Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing prize.

Oliver Townend Crowned Winner of Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event

The final day of the Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event started in dramatic fashion with both Michael Jung and Christopher Burton’s horses instructed to go to the holding area during the final horse inspection. Tensions were high as the packed crowds waited eagerly for the leading riders to re-present, with both horses eventually passed by the judges.

Over 25,000 spectators flooded the stadium in anticipation of one of the closest competitions in history at the Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event with only 1.2 penalties separating the top three riders, Michael Jung, Christopher Burton, and Oliver Townend, respectively.

Fifth-to-go, Marilyn Little aboard RF Scandalous, displayed a text-book clear round, finishing to an eruption of applause from the patriotic home crowd, hoping to see a US rider victorious for the first time since 2008. This dream was short-lived as next in to the arena was Great Britain’s Oliver Townend who produced the ride of his life to go clear, celebrating in style with his fist punching the air in recognition of his incredible round. This heaped further pressure on the final two riders. Australia’s Christopher Burton followed but had an unfortunate eight faults pushing Townend closer to the coveted prize. Only one rider could have prevented Townend’s success: all eyes fell on the three-time defending champions, Michael Jung and FischerRocana FST, as they entered the arena, hoping to make history once more. On this rare occasion Jung was unable to clinch the title with four faults dropping him into second place to give Townend a well-deserved victory and keys to a 12-month lease of a Land Rover Discovery vehicle.

Townend continued to pay tribute to Cooley Master Class. “I have had him since he was four years old; he has won at nearly every level and never lets us down. He has suffered with injuries in the past and at some points we weren’t sure if he would even come through, but the last two seasons he has been amazing; he has always been cheeky and extremely talented so it’s great to be here with him.”

Michael Jung commented on his performance. “I am sad for FischerRocana as that was absolutely my mistake, but I am happy with our performance and I love this event; it is so beautiful. FischerRocana has been amazing and is incredible to ride, so I am pleased with her.”

Oliver Townend Takes His Second Burghley Title with Ballaghmor Class

British fill first four places while Michael Jung (GER) easily secures his second FEI Classics™ title

Oliver Townend (GBR) kept his head in a tense final jumping round at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials, last leg of the FEI Classics™, to score his first CCI4* victory for eight years and head a British sweep of the top four places.

He overcame a nerve-racking moment when the 10-year-old Irish Sports Horse Ballaghmor Class crashed through the upright gate but, fortunately for him, the previous pair in the arena, Gemma Tattersall (GBR) and Arctic Soul had given him breathing space when they had a fence down.

Tattersall finished third, slipping one place behind Piggy French (GBR), who jumped clear on the mare Vanir Kamira to move up from fifth after cross country to the runner-up slot. It was a particularly triumphant return for French, who has taken a year off from the sport to have a baby.

Tom McEwen (GBR) riding Toledo de Kerser rose three places to fourth, a career best, with a beautifully judged clear round and Kristina Cook (GBR), one of the British gold medal team at last month’s FEI European Championships in Strzegom, moved up from 10th to seventh on Star Witness.

Richard Jeffry’s track produced seven clear rounds from the 40 finishers, two of which were with time faults.

New Zealander Tim Price was the highest-placed non-British rider, in fifth on Ringwood Sky Boy. America’s Lynn Symansky was sixth on Donner and Andrew Nicholson (NZL) and the gallant 17-year-old Nereo were eighth with two rails down.

FEI Classics™

Although Michael Jung had retired across country after a rare mistake with La Biosthetique Sam, the German still secured the top prize in the FEI Classics™ following a win at Kentucky and second places at Pau and Badminton.

French rider Maxime Livio, who was not competing at Burghley, remained in second place, counting a win at Pau and a second at Kentucky, and Nicola Wilson (GBR) remained in third with a fourth place at Pau and a second at Lühmuhlen.

“It’s been a brilliant season,” summed up the FEI’s Catrin Norinder, head of the Eventing and Olympic department. “All six events have been thrilling and we’ve seen some fantastic performances from athletes and horses who have portrayed our sport in the very best light.”

Oliver Townend and Ballaghmor Class Head a British Trio at Burghley after Cross Country

Oliver Townend (GBR), very last out on the cross country at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials, sixth and final leg of the FEI Classics™, produced a superb display of horsemanship on the inexperienced Ballaghmor Class to head a British one-two-three.

Townend, 31, won Badminton and Burghley in 2009 and is the British number one, but has struggled to find a consistently top horse since then. However, the Irish-bred 10-year-old by Courage galloped and jumped easily and looks a star for the future, finishing on a score of 40.6.

Fellow Briton Gemma Tattersall held the lead for most of the day on the ex-racehorse Arctic Soul with one of only three rounds inside the time and she is within a rail of Townend going into the final jumping phase with 43.0 penalties.

Izzy Taylor (GBR), whose great-aunt Anneli Drummond-Hay (GBR) won the first Burghley in 1961, is in third place on a new ride, Trevidden, by the great eventing sire Fleetwater Opposition, on 45.6.

A huge crowd enjoyed perfect sunshine and thrilling sport with 29 clear rounds and plenty of excitement right until the very end on Mark Phillips’s cleverly designed track.

As the Brits surged up the leaderboard – Piggy French (Vanir Kamira), Tom McEwen (Toledo de Kerser) and pathfinder Kristina Cook (Star Witness) are fifth, seventh and 10th – there were some unexpected mishaps for senior riders.

Dressage leader Sir Mark Todd (NZL) was up on the clock with Leonidas II when he fell off on landing over the brush at the Discovery Valley (fence 26) and third-placed Michael Jung (GER) and La Biosthetique Sam made the first mistake of their championship career with a runout at a skinny brush in the Trout Hatchery and subsequently retired.

Kristina Cook, fifth on Calvino ll, was held on course in front of the Discovery Valley and perhaps lost concentration as she had a frustrating runout and dropped to 18th place.

Andrew Nicholson (NZL) had a fall with first ride Qwanza at the new Storm Doris fence – angled logs from a tree which fell in the February storm – but is in sixth with 7.6 time penalties on his Badminton winner Nereo.

In an international line-up, Tim Price (NZL) is fourth on Ringwood Sky Boy, by the same sire as Ballaghmor Class, US athletes Lynne Symansky (Donner) and Boyd Martin (Steady Eddie) are eighth and ninth and dressage runner-up Lauren Kieffer (Veronica, USA) is 13th with 28 time penalties.
