Dr. Joan Norton to Present Equine Veterinarian CE Events on VetVine.com

Wellington, FL – December 13, 2012 − VetVine, a site for veterinary professionals providing accredited, relevant and convenient online continuing education for individuals and hospital teams, has recently expanded its offerings to equine education. VetVine provides a cost-effective and practical solution to earning CE credit while learning the most current information on a particular topic.

Joan Norton VMD, DACVIM, of Norton Veterinary Consulting and Education Resources (NVCER), will provide a series of accredited coursework for the equine practitioners. Dr. Norton, known as an energetic and engaging presenter, was recently a guest and subject matter expert on Health Matters on National Public Radio and Rick Lamb’s The Horse Show. She was also a popular presenter at Equine Affaire in Massachusetts this fall.

The first CE event Dr. Norton will lead, New Techniques in Diagnosing and Treating Equine Metabolic Syndrome, is scheduled for January 8, 2013.

Dr. Joan Norton Visiting Professor at St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine

Wellington, FL – October 31, 2012 − Joan Norton VMD, DACVIM of Norton Veterinary Consulting and Education Resources (NVCER), will serve as visiting professor at St George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine in Grenada, West Indies, this fall through early November.

“From the first series of courses I taught to horse owners, I have known that education is my calling,” said Dr. Joan Norton, founder of NVCER. “It is always a great experience to get back to the classroom with enthusiastic veterinary students. Pair that with the St. George’s tropical island setting – it couldn’t be better!”

Dr Norton will teach a Large Animal Clinical Skills Course which focuses on in-depth physical exam, medications mathematics, and large animal clinical cases including use of the simulation lab for third semester veterinary students.

She will also participate in the equine section of the Basic Physical Exam Course taught to first semester students and interacting with the student organized Large Animal Society, giving evening lectures and labs.

Dr. Joan Norton Discusses West Nile Virus on Sound Medicine on National Public Radio Sunday

Wellington, FL – October 19, 2012 − Joan Norton VMD, DACVIM, of Norton Veterinary Consulting and Education Resources, will discuss West Nile Virus on Sound Medicine, a National Public Radio (NPR) program, on Sunday, Oct. 21 on NPR affiliates around the country.

The virus affects horses, ponies, donkeys and mules, as well as humans and birds. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, as of October 2, 2012, there were 411 reported cases of equine West Nile Virus in the U.S., and in 2011, 30 states reported outbreaks.

Dr. Joan Norton Presents Equine Veterinarian CE Event on Equine Metabolic Syndrome

Wellington, FL – September 28, 2012 − On September 18-19, 2012, Joan Norton VMD, DACVIM of Norton Veterinary Consulting and Education Resources (NVCER), presented a two-day continuing education program on Equine Metabolic Syndrome for equine veterinarians and technicians in Indianapolis, IN.

Norton, along with Abby Keegan, M.S., discussed the pathogenesis of EMS and up-to-date techniques for on-farm diagnosis and treatment regimes. The program was sponsored by Nutrena.

“We had a great group of equine practitioners at this event,” Norton said. “What is exciting about what I do as an educator is that I can help veterinarians stay current. I have to thank Rob Martin from Nutrena for putting this event together.”

Norton Veterinary Consulting and Education Resources Offers Online Courses for Horse Owners

Wellington, FL – August 29, 2012 – Norton Veterinary Consulting and Education Resources developed an online series of their popular in-person veterinary courses for horse owners. The series is a convenient way for horse professionals, enthusiasts and owners to access the latest, most relevant information to improve the healthcare of horses.

Courses include the latest information presented by Joan Norton, VMD, DACVIM, a life-long horse enthusiast and hunter/jumper competitor. Dr. Norton is a graduate with the Award of Excellence in Large Animal Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania. She trained in medicine, surgery and anesthesia at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, KY, then received her board certification and was named a diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM), also at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Norton developed and taught the hugely popular series of client education courses while working for Janssen Veterinary Clinic in Sheridan, IN. Her passion for education is evident and the response to the series was overwhelming.
