Meg O’Mara Finesses the Course to Secure the ASPCA Maclay Regionals at Southeast Medal Finals

Meg O'Mara and Vancouver

Jacksonville, FL – September 23, 2012 – The highly-anticipated third and final day of the first Southeast Medal Finals featured the ASPCA Maclay Region Three Finals. A group of 37 skilled riders determined to master Alan Rheinheimer’s course competed for today’s top prize.

Traveling away from the in gate, the course opened with a bold oxer to oxer line. The track turned to the left and over a vertical on the far short end of the arena. From here the riders were asked to rollback to fence #4, a vertical on the diagonal, followed by two options for fence #5 and fence #6. With a turn to the right to fence #7, an oxer, the acuteness of which was determined by the options chosen, the route continued with a bending line to an oxer/vertical two stride. Then, a turn to the right took the riders over a vertical on the far short end, followed by an rollback to fence #10 and a bending line to a combination − a pair of natural verticals, then another bending line to the left to a single oxer headed toward the in gate. A turn to the right and through the center of the arena on the diagonal took the track to the final fence of the course, an oxer.

SAUGERTIES, NY (September 8, 2012) – The National PHA Junior Medal Final took to the all-new indoor arena at HITS-on-the-Hudson last night and welcomed 39 riders. It was Meg O’Mara who first earned a score of 87.5 and returned to out-test five riders with a perfect ride and earn the blue.

This week marked the debut of the indoor arena at HITS-on-the-Hudson, which was delivered to Saugerties, New York especially for HITS Championship Weekend. O’Mara, of Rumson, New Jersey rode to medal final glory aboard Elvenstar Farm’s Vancouver who has only just arrived at the show grounds Thursday evening.

“He was perfect. Competing inside is spooky for a lot of horses, but I just got him in front of my leg and he was so soft and smooth over the whole course,” said O’Mara of Vancouver’s performance.

The PHA Junior Medal was not the first victory for O’Mara and Vancouver – the pair also rode to a win in yesterday’s Platinum Performance/USEF Talent Search Medal at HITS Saugerties to go undefeated together.

Harrisburg, PA – An action-packed junior weekend continued to wow the crowd at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show tonight, as Phase III of the Randolph College/USEF Individual Championships culminated in a triumph for junior jumper Meg O’Mara. Riding out of Romson, NJ, O’Mara and Sinatra IV had one of only two clear rounds of the evening, emerging victorious through a steady, controlled approach. Earning the silver medal tonight was Savannah Talcott of Wildwood, MO, who bested third place finisher Reed Kessler of Amrock, NY in a suspenseful jump-off.

O’Mara and Sinatra IV held a solid lead going into tonight’s final event, with just a single fault to their name. The duo produced another brilliant performance over the difficult course designed by Steve Stephens of Palmetto, FL. They were one of only two horse and rider combinations to leave all fences intact, retaining their highly impressive one fault score. O’Mara and Sinatra’s IV confidence and consistency prevailed, as they claimed the winning title to the lead final victory gallop.

After her flawless turn in the ring tonight, gold medal winner O’Mara remarked, “There was a little bit of pressure, but I knew that it could go perfectly with Sinatra. He’s such a special horse that I knew he’d be able to do it. Sinatra is the best horse in the world; he’s the sweetest thing ever, and my mom says she wants him to live in our backyard! We actually went through a little bit of a bumpy patch this spring, but we’ve come back to an amazing show.”
