Hubside Jumping de Grimaud Will Play Host to 75% of the World Top 30

A line-up worthy of a championship. For its first CSI 5*, and the first CSI 5* organised in the world since international show jumping resumed, this weekend the HUBSIDE JUMPING de Grimaud will play host to 22 of the 30 best riders currently on the planet. Admission to the show is still free of charge.

Fans of riding and very high-level sport will be delighted. No, it’s not a World Cup Final or another international championship. But from 2 to 5 July, the crème de la crème of international show jumping will come face to face at the HUBSIDE JUMPING de Grimaud’s CSI 5*, the only show of this level organised in July in the world, where there should have been almost ten other ones, if the pandemic and the economic crisis hadn’t occurred. So an exceptional event means an exceptional line-up.

Two in a Row for Maikel van der Vleuten in Grimaud – Saint-Tropez

© Marco Villanti pour HUBSIDE JUMPING.

After an initial victory last week in the HUBSIDE JUMPING’s CSI4* Grand Prix, as high-level competition resumed in Europe, the Netherlands’ Maikel van der Vleuten was again the winner of a class comprising the greatest riders and also with the mare Dana Blue. The 15th rider in the world rankings finished ahead of Germany’s Daniel Deusser, World No. 3, with Killer Queen VDM, and Italy’s Emanuele Gaudiano, World no.25 with his unmistakable Chalou.

“Dana Blue is a mare which really likes competing,” explained the winner, van der Vleuten. “She has a fighting spirit: she fights for her rider but she fights for herself too; she really loves winning!  It’s an essential quality in a jump-off like this one, faced with these types of riders: a victory depends on your mindset and your desire to win! She is also really fast naturally on the ground and that can also make all the difference.  At the beginning of the week, after her victory last weekend, she rested, with a few simple exercises on Monday and Tuesday. I rode her again on Wednesday. On Thursday we took part in an easy class, so that she could warm up. She competed in the Grand Prix today and the result speaks for itself. I need to talk to my father Eric about next week: we always talk about each show’s schedules as a family. This week, my horses each only took part in two classes, an easy one and a big one.  Despite this, I think that Beauville Z will jump in the CSI 5* Grand Prix.”

Irish Allen Imposes at Hubside Jumping

© Ljuba Buzzola for HUBSIDE JUMPING.

In the major event of the CSI 4 * of the HUBSIDE JUMPING of Grimaud, the Irishman Bertram Allen won after a jump-off at sixteen. Associated with the nine-year-old gelding Lafayette Van Overis, he is ahead of the Tricolores Nicolas Delmotte on Urvoso du Roch, and Pénélope Leprévost on Varennes du Breuil.

“It was an event with many very serious competitors, but we expect nothing less on the HUBSIDE JUMPING. The level is exceptional! We were seventeen couples qualified for the jump-off, and in view of the opponents, I knew we were going to have to go very very fast. We didn’t see any options that such and such would have taken: everything was in the natural speed of the horses and in the turns. I’m lucky: Lafayette Van Overis is particularly successful at this type of course. It doesn’t have a very large amplitude and I can hardly play with strides. The idea was to give everything and not waste time anywhere, a victory in such an event conditions for the Grand Prix. I will race it with a new horse which my brother rode before and which I will launch on this level: Dancing Queen Z. We will see how it behaves, which I found very long, was a rather nice moment for the horses: they were much more relaxed, even if we continued the work. For Grand Prix horses, it was simply a question of keeping them in shape and of maintaining their morale. For the youngest, six and seven-year-old horses, it was cool to be able to give them more time. But of course, it’s even cooler to find your way back to the competition.”

Maikel van der Vleuten Dominates Grimaud – Saint-Tropez

The HUBSIDE JUMPING in Grimaud’s CSI 4* Grand Prix played host to what could be called the cream of the discipline: 45 competitors, among the best riders in the world, Olympic champions, European champions, show jumping legends, and the two best riders in the current World rankings. It’s true that after three months of sport being at a complete standstill, the riders were keen to go back to the showgrounds, and all of them are aware that there will not be many shows to go to this year.  The Netherlands’ Maikel van der Vleuten riding Dana Blue was victorious on the course designed by Andrea Colombo, the Italian course designer, ahead of Belgium’s Jos Verlooy and Italy’s Emilio Biocchi.  Simon Delestre, the best French rider was fourth with Berlux Z.

“It was a fabulous jump-off!” cried out van der Vleuten. “And I must admit that all week the jump-offs have been great to ride! On Friday, I was already qualified for the jump-off of a big class with Dana Blue, but I made a mistake in a turn because I was over confident. So today I really wanted to ride well for my mare who really deserves this. She is naturally very fast and all she needs is to be ridden well. It’s my first time competing at the HUBSIDE JUMPING and I’m delighted! The facilities are great, they are very spacious, there are lots of places where you can train in the shade, the ring is huge, and it’s always very sunny. I am really pleased that I’m staying for two more weeks, and that I’ll be taking part in the CSI5* show in July.”

A Star-Studded Line-Up in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez

A CSI-4* show has seldom had such an amazing line-up of riders. It’s true that after three months of being at a standstill, everyone, including the 5-star riders, who won’t be competing at the Olympics this summer, were keen to go back to showgrounds. On June 18, the Haras des Grillons de Grimaud will play host to the best that world show jumping has to offer, during the launch of the second season of the HUBSIDE JUMPING. Among them will be those who are loyal to Sadri Fegaier’s competitions… but there will also be a few “newbies.”

As international shows get underway again in Europe, the HUBSIDE JUMPING will take place behind closed doors (at least for the first weekend). All of the classes will be broadcast live on https://grandprix.tv/fr. The track of the courses will be designed by Italy’s Andrea Colombo, with three levels of competition on offer (CSI 1, 2, and 4*), boasting prize money totalling 290 000 euros, of which 100 000 euros will be for Sunday’s CSI 4* Grand Prix.

Hubside Jumping Is Back in Grimaud from 18 June

AT LAST! Show jumping at its best international level is FINALLY getting underway again. And although the Gulf of Saint-Tropez has long been the place where the jet set of the film world meets up in the summer, it will unquestionably be the HQ of the world elite of show jumping this summer.   The HUBSIDE JUMPING will be settling in Grimaud, at the Haras des Grillons, for four weekends of great sport, on the initiative of Sadri Fegaier, the president-founder of the Haras, successful businessman and international rider. We look forward to seeing you on 18 June for a first CSI 4*show. Two other CSI 4* shows will follow and a CSI 5* from now until 12 July.

The first weekend of the HUBSIDE JUMPING will be held behind closed doors, and will fully comply with the sanitary measures imposed by the French and international administrative and sports authorities. All of the classes will be broadcast live on https://grandprix.tv/fr; only those who can prove their status as a professional rider will be able to participate.

Three levels of competition will be on offer to them on courses designed by Italy’s Andrea Colombo and will boast 290,000 euros of prize money, of which 100,000 euros will be for Sunday’s 4* Grand Prix.

The competition will take place in one of the biggest outdoor rings in France, (120 x 70 m), next to a 100 x 50 m warm-up ring.

The show’s surroundings are very picturesque and provide the HUBSIDE JUMPING with an exceptional backdrop with the 11th century castle, fields of lavender, and rocky cliffs.

Scott Brash Won the Major Class of the Day at HUBSIDE Jumping in Saint-Tropez

He was announced as one of the headliners of this penultimate weekend of the HUBSIDE Jumping, launched last April in the renovated stables of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, in the South of France. Scott Brash, currently rank #27, did not disappoint for his first participation in the competition. He won the major class of the day, qualifier for Sunday’s Grand Prix.

« It is my first time here, in HUBSIDE Jumping. I must say I really like it. It is fantastic for the horses; the arena is really large which is great for the horses. We can be used to smaller arenas, so it is nice to have a bigger arena to ride in and I think the horses really enjoy it.

« That was a fast class. I was very happy with Senator today. He has done everything I asked to him today. He felt very good and fresh today, and I am very happy with the win. Senator is now 10 years old. I’ve had him for two years now. He is still taking a bit of time to get into the 5-star shows. He is a little bit of a nervous horse with the atmosphere. He feels good in HUBSIDE Jumping because I think there is a big arena, a lot of space; he does not feel claustrophobic. It is a comfortable arena for him. »
