Tallahassee, FL (March 17, 2017) — Omega Alpha Ambassadors Hannah Sue Burnett and Selena O’Hanlon handily won their divisions at the Red Hills International Horse Trials CIC three-star competition in Tallahassee, Florida this month. Omega Alpha Pharmaceuticals, a company that produces all-natural equine health supplements, sponsors both riders and was thrilled to congratulate them on their victories.

Burnett rode Harbour Pilot to win the international CIC3* division. Harbour Pilot is a 14-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding (Cruising x Shannon) owned by Jacqueline Mars. The pair began with an excellent dressage score of 44.10. In the warm-up arena for the stadium jumping phase, Harbour Pilot threw in some excitement by bucking Burnett off – but she hopped back on and the pair completed a clear round with only two time penalties. On a difficult cross-country course, they were again clean over fences, gaining only 8.8 time penalties. The Omega Alpha Ambassador won the competition with a final score of 54.9 – which was 12 points ahead of her nearest rival.

No stranger to besting competition, Burnett has been on many USEF High Performance Training lists. She won individual silver and team gold medals at the Pan American Games in 2011, and in 2012 was USEF National Champion at the Fair Hill CCI3*. She lives and trains in The Plains, Virginia.

Another Omega Alpha Ambassador, Selena O’Hanlon, rode John and Judy Rumble’s Foxwood High (“Woody”) to win Red Hills’ Advanced Division. With only one fence down in show jumping, the pair finished with a score of only 36.2 penalties. “I think the dressage test was our most improved phase this year at Red Hills,” commented a happy O’Hanlon. “He was more relaxed over his topline, and I rode more forward and smoothly thanks to Bruce Davidson’s dressage lesson prior to the event.”

O’Hanlon, from Kingston, Ontario, has a long list of accomplishments, including being a member of the 2008 Canadian Olympic Eventing team and the 2010 World Equestrian Games (WEG) silver medal team. She was also a member of the sixth-placed 2014 WEG Eventing team.

A long-time Omega Alpha Ambassador, O’Hanlon doesn’t go anywhere without the company’s products for her horses. She points to a variety of Omega Alpha formulations that she says help Woody and her other horses perform at their best. “Omega Alpha Antiflam and Sinew-X Plus help maintain Woody’s joints and address any aches or pains,” she says. “Omega Alpha Biotic 8, MinerEQ, and Equisel-Lyte are his daily supplements that make sure he has everything his body needs to balance out his rigorous work schedule.” Woody also gets Omega Alpha Equisel-BCAA after intense workouts or a long trip. “I give him Omega Alpha Gastra-Fx right before I put the bit in his mouth to ensure he doesn’t suffer from ulcers, and at shows he uses Omega Alpha Chill Ultra for better focus in the dressage tests.”

O’Hanlon says Omega Alpha RegenerEQ is probably her favorite product for competition horses. “It promotes long-lasting gastro-intestinal health without limiting the stomach acid production that is so essential for digestion.”

As to the future, O’Hanlon says that she and Woody will go back to their winter base in Ocala, Florida to prepare for The Fork at Tryon before going on to the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event in Kentucky.

Pau, France – The first day of dressage began at Les Étoiles de Pau CCI4* with the first two combinations of the U.S. contingency performing their tests. With 40 competitors performing their dressage tests on Thursday in front of the judging panel of Angela Tucker (GBR), Christina Klingspor (SWE), and Alain James (FRA), Hannah Sue Burnett and Harbour Pilot are currently tied in fifth place while Clark Montgomery and Universe are in 13th place.

USEF Land Rover Competition grant-recipient Burnett (The Plains, Va.) and Jacqueline Mars’ Harbour Pilot had a lovely, relaxed test earning an impressive score of 45.7. Their test displayed quality trot and walk work with an excellent canter tour, only marred by a final halt that was a bit early on the centerline. The pair is contesting their first CCI4* as a partnership and they are only 4.2 points behind current leaders William Fox-Pitt of Great Britain and Sea Cookie TSF, who scored a 41.5. Burnett and the 10-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding are in a three-way tie for fifth place with Ludwig Svennerstal of Sweden and Shamwari 4 and Andreas Dibowski of Germany and FRH Fantasia.

“I’m real happy with my ride today,” said Burnett. “He was really rideable. In hindsight I could have pushed for a little more but I’m really happy with him and looking forward to Saturday. I also want to say thanks to William’s owner, Jacqueline Mars, who is cheering at home from Virginia, and my sponsors.”

Montgomery (Wiltshire, UK) and Universe were the first U.S. pair to come down the centerline Thursday afternoon. The 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Jessica Montgomery, Carole Montgomery, Janet Higgins, and Elizabeth Smith showed a bit of tension throughout the test, but Montgomery rode him well to earn a score of 52.0 to lie in 13th place. They also received a USEF Land Rover Competition grant and are contesting their second CCI4* of the year after finishing 27th at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials.

Competition continues Friday with the second day of dressage for the remaining 35 competitors at Les Étoiles de Pau CCI4*, which serves as the first leg of the 2013/2014 FEI Classics. Lynn Symansky and Donner will kick things off for the U.S. at 9:46am local time. Michael Pollard and Mensa G will go at 10:26am, followed by Krisit Nunnink and R-Star at 11:14am. Phillip Dutton and Mr. Medicott will be the last to go in the morning session at 12:38pm, with Marilyn Little and RF Demeter being the sole U.S. pair in the afternoon session at 2:16pm.

Burnett and Little Stand Second and Fifth Following First Day of Competition at the Saumur CCI3*

Hannah Sue Burnett and Harbour Pilot (Shannon Brinkman)

Saumur, France – Competition officially kicked off Thursday at the Saumur CCI3* with 17 combinations performing their dressage tests. U.S. entries and Land Rover Competition Grant recipients Hannah Sue Burnett and Marilyn Little rose to the occasion as they propelled themselves into the top five following the first day of competition.

Burnett (The Plains, VA) and Jacqueline Mars’ Harbour Pilot were the penultimate combination of the day but proved worth the wait as they scored 48.60 to lie in second place overnight. The 2012 USEF National CCI3* Eventing Champions have repeatedly shown a proficiency in the first phase when the stakes are at their highest and once again produced high quality work on Thursday.

“He was really good. We’ve been a little inconsistent this spring, so I rode him quite a bit this morning because he has been quite exuberant at his last two competitions. But he was all business from the first ride and went right in the ring and was rideable,” said Burnett of the 10-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding. “In hindsight I could have gone for it a little bit more in the trot but the canter and changes were very good.”

Looking towards Saturday’s cross country, Burnett believes Course Designer Pierre Michelet has built a demanding track.

“The course is good; it’s big and pretty technical. There are six combinations of three-strides,” said the 2011 Pan American Games Team Gold and Individual Silver medalist. “I was impressed the first time I walked it but I’ve walked it a couple more times and it keeps looking better.”

Little (Frederick, MD) and RF Smoke on the Water were the first U.S. entry of the day before the Ground Jury of Sandy Phillips, Luciano Cantini and Catherine Agaesse, immediately setting a standard for the Land Rover U.S. Eventing Team. Raylyn Farms Inc. and Phoebe and Michael Manders’ eight-year-old Wurttemburger gelding put in a polished effort to stand in fifth place on a score of 52. Heading into the jumping phases the 2012 USEF National CCI3* Eventing Reserve Champions will look to display the form that earned them runner-up honors in the CIC3* at the Red Hills International Horse Trials.

Leading the Saumur CCI3* field following day one is Geoffroy Soullez of France with Madiran du Liot*HN on a score of 46.80.

Fellow Land Rover Competition Grant recipients Will Faudree (Hoffman, NC) and Buck Davidson (Ocala, FL) round out the U.S. effort at the Saumur CCI3* tomorrow as they perform their dressage tests. Faudree will ride Jennifer Mosing’s Andromaque at 10:45am CEST, while Davidson and Sherrie Martin’s The Apprentice perform their test at 2:00pm CEST.

Burnett and Husain Win National Titles at Dansko Fair Hill International

Hannah Sue Burnett and Harbour Pilot (Shannon Brinkman)

Elkton, MD – The Dansko Fair Hill International CCI wrapped up Sunday as National Titles were awarded in both two- and three-star competition. Competitors tackled Sally Ike’s challenging show jumping courses under uncharacteristically sunny, beautiful skies. Hannah Sue Burnett held her nerve to win the CCI3* National Title with Harbour Pilot to win her third Fair Hill crown (the 26-year-old has two CCI3* victories and one win in the CCI2*). In the USEF National Two-Star Eventing Championship, Connor Husain jumped a beautiful clear round on Piece of Hope to rise from second and earn his first Fair Hill victory.

USEF National Three-Star Eventing Championship

Burnett (The Plains, VA) and Jacqueline Mars’ nine-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding entered the arena the picture of poise and determination. Harbour Pilot jumped effortlessly around Ike’s 12 obstacle track to produce an immaculate clear round and finish on his dressage score. The pair finished on a three-day total of 43, to secure Burnett’s second CCI3* title.

Burnett and Brannigan Produce Faultless Rounds at Dansko Fair Hill International

Elkton, MD – As expected, Derek Di Grazia’s challenging cross country courses were extremely influential Saturday at the Dansko Fair Hill International CCI. The leaderboards in both the two- and three-stars saw great fluctuation in the second phase of the USEF National Eventing Championships. Hannah Sue Burnett was able to maintain her lead following the dressage with the classy Harbour Pilot; she will head into the show jumping on Sunday looking to secure her second CCI3* National Title. In the two-star Jennie Brannigan and Indie vaulted themselves into the lead on the strength of a double clear effort.

USEF National Three-Star Eventing Championship

Di Grazia’s 27 obstacle CCI3* course saw only four combinations finish within the time allowed of ten minutes and a total of 17 riders completed without jumping penalties. Of the 32 entries that started the course, three were eliminated and six retired and two competitors withdrew prior to cross country.

Burnett and Beebee Lead National Championship Fields Following Dressage at Dansko

Hannah Sue Burnett and Harbour Pilot (Shannon Brinkman)

Elkton, MD – The second day of dressage at the Dansko Fair Hill International CCI got off to a late start on Friday after lightning storms caused an hour delay. Rain continued to threaten throughout the day and struck during the first rides of the final afternoon session as competitors completed the first phase the USEF National Two and Three-Star Eventing Championships. In the CCI3* Hannah Sue Burnett and Harbour Pilot hold the lead going into the cross country with a score of 43. No one was able to catch Thursday’s CCI2* leader Susan Beebee and Wolf as their score of 40.8 proved to be unassailable.

USEF National Three-Star Eventing Championship

Three-star competition got underway Friday with all 34 entries contesting their dressage tests in front of the Ground Jury of Angela Tucker, Janine Rohr and Wayne Quarles.

Hannah Sue Burnett Successfully Defends Her Lead on the Cross Country with Harbour Pilot in the Mandatory Outing for the 2011 Land Rover U.S. Eventing Team

Hannah Sue Burnett and Harbour Pilot.

Richland, MI – Hannah Sue Burnett and Harbour Pilot never flinched in the face of the pressure of leading the Mandatory Outing for the 2011 Land Rover U.S. Eventing Team at the Richland Park CIC and Horse Trials. They added nothing to their dressage score on the cross country and successfully defended their lead.

“It was one of my best rounds ever, on any horse,” said Burnett. “I built on my speed as I went, I didn’t have the intention to run him really hard but it was at intermediate speed. I just picked up a good rhythm at the first fence and I built on it. All of the combinations rode like gymnastics. I picked up the speed at the last two fences.”

Harbour Pilot, an 8-year-old Irish Sport Horse and homebred of Jacqueline Mars, continues to live up to the expectation of all that have been involved in his career. Part of David and Karen O’Connor’s program since he was a born, he has been ridden by Burnett since last spring. Burnett serves as an assistant trainer in their program, and she rode Harbour Pilot to a second-place finish in the CCI2* at the Bromont CCI in June. Their performance earned them one of 15 spots on the USEF Short List for the Land Rover Eventing Team for the 2011 Pan American Games.

“He’s really grown up,” said Burnett. “After Bromont, he thought he was Superman. This is actually his first run since Bromont. He’s so good on the cross country so he doesn’t have to run a lot. I am so happy for Ms. Mars and the O’Connors as they produced him, it is nice that they can produce something of his quality.”

Hannah Burnett & Harbour Pilot Cruise to Lead at USEF Pan American Games Mandatory Outing

Richland, Michigan – When Hannah Sue Burnett rode Harbour Pilot into the dressage ring as the first of the 14 riders contesting the USEF Pan American Games Mandatory Outing for the 2011 Land Rover U.S. Eventing Team she set a mark that couldn’t be beat. The Mandatory Outing is being held as part of the Richland Park Horse Trials and CIC3*.

Riding Jacqueline Mars’ 8-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding, Burnett put in what is now becoming trademark for the 25 year old ride: a very polished effort. Burnett and Harbour Pilot scored 44.6 to leave them two points clear of Kristin Schmolze and Ballylaffin Bracken, whom she owns with her parents Bill and Janet. Shannon Lilly lies 1/10th of a point behind Schmolze on The Lilley Group’s Ballygowan Pizzaz.

“It was one of his best tests,” said Burnett. “It could have had a little more flash – if I had to be picky. But his trot work was good and I think his canter work was great. The turn on the haunches was good, which I was pleased about because I struggle with that.”

Burnett was sixth at the 2011 Rolex Kentucky CCI4* presented by Bridgestone and was then second with Harbour Pilot in the CCI2* at Bromont in June. ‘William’ has been extremely competitive as he has risen through the levels; Burnett has ridden him since April of 2010.
