US Para-Dressage Riders Finish with Top Results on Final Day of CPEDI3*

Wellington, FL – January 10, 2016 – The United States was well-represented at the CPEDI3* presented by Mane Stream courtesy of Rowan O’Riley, Mission Control, Adequan®, and Nutrena, at the Adequan® Global Dressage Festival (AGDF) grounds at Palm Beach International Equestrian Center (PBIEC) thanks to a spectacular showcase of talent from Para-Dressage athletes from all areas of the country. The United States finished atop the team phase of the competition, earned by consistent rides from Roxanne Trunnell, Kate Shoemaker, Rebecca Hart, and Angela Peavy. Rebecca Hart (USA) finished the competition as the highest scoring rider, never receiving below a score of 73.095% for each of her three rides aboard Schroeter’s Romani. Competition continues at the Adequan® Global Dressage Festival this week, beginning on Thursday, January. The next CPEDI 3* at AGDF will begin on Friday, January 22.

Team USA Chef d’Equipe Kai Handt was very pleased with the results seen across the board for his team of riders throughout the three days of competition. Handt noted that he feels each of his riders are heading in the right direction as they continue fine-tuning their riding and precision moving into the spring season.

“I think this was a great opportunity for the team to show in the big arena at this facility, which obviously preps both the horses and riders for future competitions at this type of venue,” commented Handt. “I think our riders were a bit nervous the first day, but the scores just got better and better each day, and by the freestyle portion I think everyone was on their best game. Everyone did a great job today.

“Right now we just want to continue with our momentum. This has been a two-and-a-half year project getting this team to where it is. We’ve changed a lot, including rules and qualifications, to get to the point where we are now, producing more competitive athletes. It’s really panning out for us and we’re hoping that this team will be peaking by the time we’re heading to the Paralympic Games this summer,” he continued.

Rebecca Hart has been the backbone of the Para-Dressage team for a number of years and showcased her consistency aboard Schroeter’s Romani throughout the CPEDI3*. The duo will focus on continuing to gain experience without stirrups, a relatively new adjustment for Hart and Schroeter’s Romani. The combination impressed on each day of competition, offering a sneak peek of what is to come for Team USA.

“I’d like to thank the amazing sponsors that have helped to put together these two shows in January, which will serve as our last qualifying events. We would have been in a tight spot for the Paralympic Games without them,” noted Hart. “I think it was a huge honor for athletes to be put in the limelight in the Global International Ring, which hasn’t always been the case for Para-Dressage in the U.S. and I think it’s a great step forward for the whole sport.”

“I think it was good to be able to show like we were the big guys out there,” added Trunnell, who competed NTEC Royal Dancer, a 2005 Westphalian gelding owned by Julia Handt, in the FEI Para-Dressage 1a division throughout the weekend.

All of the team riders repeated a similar sentiment, stating that competition in large venue atmospheres is what Team USA will need before beginning preparation for the Paralympic Games selections. Angela Peavy, who represented the U.S. as an individual rider at the 2014 FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG) in Caen, France, elaborated on the importance of gaining such valuable competition experience.

“It’s always a great experience when you feel like you’re on a more even level with able-bodied riders and it felt like a European CPEDI. Competing in an environment like this always helps to conquer show nerves when you go to competitions like this in Europe, WEG, or the Paralympic Games. It helps you to feel more confident,” elaborated Peavy.

Rowan O’Riley of Mane Stream and Rebecca Reno of Mission Control were both on hand to discuss their motivation for sponsorship at such an event, a cause near and dear to both of their hearts.

“The easy answer would be to say that it’s because my daughter (Angela Peavy) rides, but that would not be the true reason. These individuals are amazing athletes and when Equestrian Sport Productions allowed us to be part of the Adequan® Global Dressage Festival this year, it was too good of an opportunity to pass up. Our goal will always be to provide the same experience that you can get in Europe here at this facility,” explained Reno. “For me, sponsoring was a no-brainer. We know that the athletes work tremendously hard, the horses work hard, and they all deserve to be at competitions like this. It’s truly fun to be a part of.”

Mane Stream, a therapeutic and adaptive riding program in New Jersey for both children and adults, was proud to be a leading sponsor of the event. Mane Stream’s representative, Rowan O’Riley, explained, “It’s important for Mane Stream to support Para-Dressage competitions because it’s an aspiration for all riders to see what hard work, skill, and quality training can produce in an international show arena.”

Many of the team riders traveled at great lengths to be a part of the first CPEDI3* at AGDF this season. Kate Shoemaker and her mounts Dachstein and Solitaer 40, both made the long 2,700-mile trek from Eagle, Idaho, to be a part of the competition.

“We got here on Wednesday and rode once. We just went into the arena and showed and that’s how you go to big shows. It’s just what you do and I was incredibly happy to perform the way we did,” she noted.

Margaret McIntosh, who earned reserve high point honors behind Rebecca Hart, competed as an individual throughout the competition and was pleased with the progress of her nine-year-old mare aptly named, Rio Rio. The duo earned scores of 72.754%, 72.899%, and 73.917% respectively, to finish one of their best career competitions together.

“She typically is very relaxed on the ground and in the show arena, but I was really delighted today to have a little bit more zip going on,” she laughed. “I believe that the atmosphere here contributed a lot at the beginning of the competition, but it served as a great opportunity for people to learn how to deal with that added atmosphere that you find more often in Europe.”

The Adequan® Global Dressage Festival is proud to host and support the dreams of Para-Dressage athletes from across North America. Both competition and facility management look forward to hosting Para-Dressage competitions in the future at the PBIEC venue.

“Thank you to the riders, owners, grooms officials, and sponsors for a wonderful week of competition. I think without the sponsors we could not have done what we accomplished this week and what we’re looking forward to doing it again in two weeks’ time,” said Thomas Baur, Director of Sport for the Adequan® Global Dressage Festival.

Kristi Wysocki, President of the FEI Ground Jury for this week’s CPEDI3*, was also impressed with the riding of both team and individual riders at the first CPEDI 3* of the season, commenting on the progress she has seen within the Team USA program over the past four years.

“I got involved in this sport four years ago when some of these riders were just getting involved as well. I think that they’ve earned their place in the arena this week and they proved that,” she explained. “It was exciting to see because it is a world-class arena and also a very daunting one at that. They all came in and owned their 8-minutes and I think with a couple of weeks to work on precision, sevens will move up to eights, and those low mid-70 scores will be even higher. It’s very exciting.”

CPEDI3* competition will continue at AGDF on Friday, January 22, and will conclude on Sunday, January 24. The Adequan® Global Dressage Festival will begin this week with a CDI-W competition. USA Team Shines at $10,000 CPEDI3* Sweeping the Para-Dressage Competition

Rebecca Hart and Schroeter’s Romani. Photos (C) Lindsay Y. McCall.

Wellington, FL – January 9, 2016 – The United States Para-Dressage Team led by Chef d’Equipe Kai Handt dominated the Para-Dressage competition at the $10,000 CPEDI3* in Wellington, Florida. The USA Team included: Grade II Paralympian Rebecca Hart from the United States and Schroeter’s Romani, owned by Rebecca Hart in conjunction with Margaret Duprey, Cherry Knoll Farm, Barbara Summer, and Bill and Sandy Kimmel; 2014 World Equestrian Games athlete Angela Peavy and Lancelot Warrior, owned by Rebecca Reno, in Grade III; Kate Shoemaker and Solitaer 40 in Grade III; and 2014 World Equestrian Games athlete Roxanne Trunnell and NTEC Royal Dancer. Together the team earned a 427.994 score placing them in a favorable position for the 2016 Rio Paralympics. FEI Para-Equestrian Dressage athletes from the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico are competing over the weekend in the 2016 Para-Equestrian Dressage Tour held in The Stadium at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center, home of the Adequan® Global Dressage Festival (AGDF). The $10,000 CPEDI3* presented by Mission Control, Mane Stream, courtesy of Rowan O’Riley, Adequan®, and Nutrena, is the first look at each horse and rider combination aiming for the 2016 Paralympics in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. The Para Equestrian Dressage Tour includes the $10,000 CPEDI3* January 8-10 and the $10,000 CPEDI3* January 21-24, 2016. The FEI ground jury for January 8-10 includes President Kristi Wysocki (USA), Carlos Lopes (POR), and Marco Orsini (GER). Sunday, January 9, is the final day of competition featuring the Freestyle tests. Chef d’Equipe Kai Handt was excited with how the USA team performed as well as the individual success of the U.S. riders.

Kai Handt commented, “The team did excellent and we had a fantastic competition. We moved ahead of Canada and Russia now in the team rankings. If we have the same results at the next show at the end of the month we will move into the top three in the world ranking list. The team really came together well and their scores improved today.”

The U.S. riders last competed at the Texas CPEDI3* and National Championships this fall. U.S. riders swept each grade with top scores that left them wanting more. Handt explained, “Some of the results this weekend weren’t as impressive as they were in Texas; however, our riders were a little more nervous here. They haven’t shown for a while and they came to Florida and are showing in the international arena. They probably were a little more nervous and the added pressure of this being a qualifier at the end of a Paralympic qualifying season. However, they all held it together very well. This year they changed the qualifying criteria up so the athletes had to ride more CPEDI’s to qualify for this. Therefore this is becoming more routine; they are getting more ring time, and showing consistent results.”

Hart topped Grade II with her consistent results aboard Shroeter’s Romani. Hart explained, “I was disappointed with the entrance because we cantered rather than trotting but the rest of the test I was quite happy with. Romani stayed focused with me. I always watch the video after I ride because I know what I feel when I am out there but I want to visualize the same thing. When I watched the video I was very pleased with the whole test. It was an unfortunate entrance but everything from that moment on I was pleased with.”

Romani and Hart continued to bring power and energy to their Individual Test. Hart noted, “That is what we have been working on, energy. Romani is a very smart horse. She is very in tune to your mental state and if I can mentally think forward, my body emulates that, even what I can’t control. I don’t want to say it’s a mind meld but she is very aware of my mental psyche. I use my mental psyche to keep her moving forward. So when something doesn’t go to plan I know why. My body doesn’t always respond the way I want it to, so If I visualize it mentally it helps create the motion I want physically.”

Hart showcased an exemplary free walk in the International arena. Hart added, “Her free walk was amazing. It’s one of those things you desire to feel: the energy from the back to the front with stretching into the bridle. She gives you that feeling of energy. It’s a march and a flow. Even though it’s a long stretch movement, there is so much power in it. It’s one of the reasons we loved her so much – she has such a good walk.”

Hart was a part of Team USA during the week. Hart noted, “I love being a part of the team, especially in a Paralympic year. It’s fun to have the camaraderie with the riders we know while supporting the riders we don’t know yet.”

Hart concluded, “I am so thankful to my trainer Todd Flettrich and Margaret Duprey. This has been an amazing week. I moved down here full time four months ago and Todd has been wonderful with the training, getting me on a schedule, and working with Romani. Margaret has been great with her support as well. I look forward to showcasing my new music in our freestyle tomorrow.”

Annie Peavy and Lancelot Warrior
Annie Peavy and Lancelot Warrior

Grade III rider Annie Peavy also swept her grade with Lancelot Warrior. Her individual test was consistent as her Team test with a few positive changes. Peavy explained, “My individual test was great. Lance felt even more connected. There were things I definitely thought about last night and in the warmup and improved upon today. He felt even more there for me. The heat from the sun was a bit much though. I could definitely tell he was tired by the end but he stayed with me the whole time and he came through perfectly. My favorite part was that I improved the free walk. It felt more fluid today than yesterday. I also enjoyed his medium canter. I always love his medium canters and he loves to do them.”

Peavy added, “I enjoy being a part of the team at this show. I’ve been part of the US Team a couple of times and it’s always a lot of fun. You feel like you want to work for you and your team.”

U.S. teammate Roxanne Trunnell posted consistent results on both days in Grade Ia with Julia Handt’s NTEC Daytona Beach. Trunnell stated, “These last two days went really well with Daytona. We are communicating better. Specifically I really enjoyed his halts in both tests. We’ve been working together to produce the best test possible. I enjoyed riding this weekend and I loved being part of the U.S. Team.”

Individually Hart and Peavy swept their respective grades over both days as did Margaret McIntosh and Rio Rio in Grade Ia, Sydney Collier and Wes Dunham’s Western Rose in Grade Ib, and Mary Jordan and Rubicon 75, owned by Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center, in Grade IV.

Margaret McIntosh and her own Rio Rio took home the blue in Grade Ia with a 72.899%. The duo has been working hard with trainer Missy Ransehousen and the weekend results are showing their determination and abilities.

In Grade Ib Sydney Collier and Wes Dunham’s Western Rose led the grade for a second day. Collier said, “My individual test went super well. We made lots of improvements from yesterday. The medium felt nice and flowy with Rosey. I am so blown away by her and how we get along together. I am so proud of both my horses. I was very proud of Scampano 2 (owned by KCR Dressage LLC) because he stepped it up. At one point they were moving something around the arena and he put his ears up and thought he should focus on that but I got him to refocus on me. I am looking forward to the future with all three horses. I am so lucky that each of these owners trust me with their horses. Without them I wouldn’t be riding these amazing animals.”

In Grade IV 2010 World Equestrian Games athlete Mary Jordan and Rubicon 75, owned by Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center, earned her second blue ribbon for the weekend. Jordan commented, “There are many good takeaways from this weekend. I started working with George Williams who is the USDF President. That has been a wonderful experience. I am learning a ton of things and getting some great feedback with his excellent training.

Jordan added, “We have so many wonderful people supporting us, including my family, Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center, George and his family, the MS community, and so many more. Around Christmas time my father in law passed away and I wanted to dedicate my efforts to him this week.” I also want to thank the sponsors of this show that made it possible for us to ride in The Stadium. That includes Adequan, Nutrena, Mission Control, Mane Stream, and Rowan O’Riley. It is critically important for us as a country to compete in this atmosphere.”

The Para-Dressage Tour $10,000 CPEDI3*, scheduled January 7-10, 2016, ends on Sunday with the Freestyle competition in The Stadium at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center. Riders will return to Wellington, Florida for the second part of the Para Equestrian Dressage Tour. The $10,000 CPEDI3* is scheduled for January 21-24, 2016.

The Adequan® Global Dressage Festival is the world’s largest international and national dressage circuit featuring seven CDIs, including four CDI-Ws, one 4* and one 5*, the only non-championship CDIO Nations’ Cup in the Western Hemisphere, as well as weekly U.S. National events. The AGDF offers more than $650,000 in prize money for the seven international competitions, making it one of the richest circuits in the world. The Stadium at Palm Beach International Equestrian Center facility includes the Van Kampen covered arena (made possible by Kimberly and Frederic Boyer and family) and four outdoor arenas with world-class footing, 200 permanent stalls, and a VIP seating area. USA Clinches Victory in Team Portion of First CPEDI 3* of 2016 Circuit at PBIEC

Sydney Collier and Western Rose. Photos: ©SusanJStickle.

Wellington, FL – January 9, 2016 – The CPEDI 3* presented by Mane Stream, courtesy of Rowan O’Riley, Mission Control, Adequan®, and Nutrena continued today at the Adequan® Global Dressage Festival (AGDF) grounds of Palm Beach International Equestrian Center (PBIEC), as competitors completed the team component of the weekend’s competition. Team USA maintained their lead throughout the two-day portion of competition, ultimately capturing first place honors. Team Canada finished in second place. CPEDI3* competition continues tomorrow with individual freestyles beginning at 9am.

U.S. riders displayed spectacular talent throughout the second day of competition at AGDF as Margaret McIntosh (USA) and her own Rio Rio impressed in the FEI Para-Dressage Individual Championship Test – Grade 1a with a score of 72.899%. Sydney Collier (USA) continued to improve her marks from yesterday, leading the FEI Para-Dressage Individual Championship Test – Grade 1b aboard Western Rose, owned by Wesley Dunham, receiving a 66.609%. The talented duo of Rebecca Hart and her own Schroeter’s Romani earned another fabulous score in the FEI Para-Dressage Individual Championship Test – Grade II division with a 73.095%. Angela Peavy (USA) piloted Lancelot Warrior, owned by Heather Blitz and Rebecca Reno, to another win over the weekend, earning a 72.561% from the judges in the FEI Para-Dressage Individual Championship Test – Grade III. Mary Jordan (USA) won the FEI Para-Dressage Individual Championship Test – Grade IV aboard Rubicon 75, owned by Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center.

Sydney Collier has excelled this week for Team USA, competing two gifted mounts and placing exceedingly well aboard her relatively new ride, Western Rose, owned by her trainer Wesley Dunham. Collier has narrowed her focus on adjustments and improvements noted in the judging remarks for each of her rides, which she hopes will help increase her scores and gain confidence before the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro this summer.

“I thought I made a lot of really good improvements in both of my rides today from yesterday and took a lot of judges’ comments to heart,” said Collier. “I really rode my heart out, and I was so proud of both of them. They really impressed me today.”

Collier, who was diagnosed with a very rare congenital birth defect known as Wyburn-Mason Syndrome at age seven, has taken the equestrian world by storm after being named 2014 Junior Equestrian of the Year presented by the United States Equestrian Federation and serving as a member of Team USA at the 2014 FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG) in Para-Dressage in Caen, France.

Entering the first CPEDI 3* of the 2016 calendar year, Collier has been eager to expand her competition experience aboard both of her newer mounts, Western Rose and Scampano 2, as well as continuing training with her additional mount, Wentworth, who is already qualified for the 2016 Paralympic Games.

“Western Rose has been amazing to work with. She’s really fun because she has her own engine so I really just have to manage her gaits. All three of them bring a smile to my face every day when I get to ride them,” she smiled.

Having already set a list of accomplishments she looks forward to achieving this season, Collier stated, “I would like to come to the next CPEDI3* in two weeks and make the changes that I need to work on, while continuing our training with all three of them, and getting everyone into the best shape possible.”

Competing at AGDF has always been a highlight for Collier each year, noting that competing in the Global International Arena in 2016 will be incredibly helpful for riders looking to gain experience in a large venue setting.

“It’s an amazing atmosphere here. This year being able to compete in the main ring is quite different than competing in the indoor (covered arena), and it’s quite exciting,” commented Collier. “It’s absolutely beautiful, and I think it’s great for the horses to get used to the bigger atmospheres. All of the riders have really impressed me in this show, and I’m so happy that I have been able to compete my horses here.”

Margaret McIntosh and Rio Rio
Margaret McIntosh and Rio Rio

Margaret McIntosh and her own Rio Rio concluded a phenomenal 2015 season and are beginning the 2016 circuit on the right foot, as the duo continues to string together excellent performances in the FEI Para-Dressage – Grade 1a division. McIntosh, who rides with Missy and Jessica Ransehousen out of Unionville, PA, also has her sights set on the U.S. Paralympic Team heading to Rio de Janeiro.

McIntosh, a former three-day eventer, began competing in para-dressage competition after a riding accident left her initially paralyzed from the chest down. Now, McIntosh is looking forward to earning a spot representing the United States for the first time ever in international Para-Dressage competition in 2016. The duo received a 72.754% and earned an improved 72.899% today in Grade 1a competition.

Correction from January 8, 2016 Release: Mary Jordan and Rubicon 75 owned by Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center, also competed on the first day of CPEDI 3* at AGDF, earning top honors in the FEI Para-Dressage Team Test – Grade IV with a score of 60.595%.

Hart and Peavy Push Team USA to the Lead in the CPEDI 3* as Competition Continues

Rebecca Hart and Schroeter’s Romani. Photos: ©SusanJStickle.

Wellington, FL – January 8, 2016 – The first CPEDI 3* of the 2016 season, presented by Mane Stream, courtesy of Rowan O’Riley, Mission Control, Adequan®, and Nutrena at the Adequan® Global Dressage Festival commenced today as para-dressage athletes from around North America took to the International Ring at The Stadium at Palm Beach International Equestrian Center (PBIEC) for the first time in facility history. Riders representing the United States had a banner day, sweeping each of the classes offered on the first day of competition. The FEI CPEDI 3* will conclude on Sunday, January 10.

Rebecca Hart (USA) and her own Schroeter’s Romani won the FEI Para Team Test – Grade II class and recorded the highest score of the day, receiving a 74.167%. Angela Peavy (USA) and Lancelot Warrior, owned by Heather Blitz and Rebecca Reno, took top honors in the FEI Para Team Test – Grade III class with a score of 71.360%. Margaret McIntosh (USA) piloted her own Rio Rio to the lead in the FEI Para Team Test – Grade 1a with a score of 72.754% while Sydney Collier (USA) and Western Rose, owned by Wesley Dunham, took the FEI Para Team Test – Grade 1b with a score of 67.533% to give Team USA the lead moving into the final portion of team competition tomorrow.

Rebecca Hart is a veteran competitor for Team USA, having competed at the World Equestrian Games in 2014, Para-Equestrian World Championships, as well as the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, England. Hart and Schroeter’s Romani continue to improve their scores with each outing, as the pair has their sights set on the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

“I loved our ride today. She has just been coming into her own in the past few months. We’ve tweaked a few things from what we did at Nationals this year, the main thing being that we’ve removed our stirrups, which can always be a little bit scary. It has really helped improve the connection and harmony that we’ve wanted and we’ll continue to get more comfortable with it,” explained Hart. “We’ve always had the power and expression that we’ve needed, but we wanted to make it smooth throughout the entire test.”

Hart explained that due to her physical condition, Familial Spastic Paraplegia (FSP), riding with stirrups would cause her lower legs to spasm, creating a slight hesitation from Romani. She continued, “I was talking to some of the European riders and they said take your stirrups off. We’ve been practicing for the past few months, but this is only our second competition trying it and I think it’s really smoothed out the whole picture.”

The duo earned the highest score of the day and Hart was pleased with the improvements the pair has made, hoping it will earn them a place on the selected team traveling to Rio later this year.

“I cannot thank the sponsors enough for supporting this show and helping us into the limelight, which is where we need to be, especially in a Paralympic year,” she noted. “The venue has been amazing accommodating and adapting our arenas with both the short and long ring. It has been a wonderful experience and is the perfect atmosphere to help us get prepped for Rio.”

Lauren Barwick (CAN) and Oynx followed in second place behind Hart, while Kelly Boccia (USA) aboard Donauwalzer CSF earned third place. Deborah Stanitski (USA) and Pilikua Koa finished in fourth.

Angela Peavy and Lancelot Warrior
Angela Peavy and Lancelot Warrior

Angela Peavy capped a phenomenal day aboard Lancelot Warrior, as the duo led the FEI Para Team Test – Grade III division on the first day of competition. Peavy, a rising star for the U.S. Paralympic team, rode an accurate test, which earned the high score for the division.

“I was very happy with Lance today. He really has stepped up in the past few months and I thought we had a great connection throughout the test. He was very forward and I was really pleased with our performance,” she commented. “He’s come a long way in two years and our experiences throughout that time have helped get us to this point.”

Competing in Wellington is especially exciting for Peavy, who will stay to compete at AGDF in the next CPEDI3* (Jan. 22-24), as well as test Fourth Level competition in the National Shows also hosted at the venue. She noted, “When you compete here it’s like being in your own backyard and you’re on your home turf. He’s used to this environment and I think that will help us as we look forward to qualifying for Rio.”

CPEDI 3* competition continues at AGDF tomorrow with the conclusion of team competition and will host individual competition through Sunday, January 10. For more information on the CPEDI 3*, please visit www.globaldressagefestival.com to find ride times and results.

USA Para-Dressage Riders Top First Day of Competition at $10,000 CPEDI3* in Wellington

Wellington, FL – January 8, 2016 – United States Para-Dressage riders topped each of the five grades on the first day of the $10,000 CPEDI3* in Wellington, FL. Nineteen horse and rider combinations competed on January 8, in the Team Test competition. Earning the highest score of the day was Grade II Paralympian Rebecca Hart from the United States and Schroeter’s Romani, owned by Rebecca Hart in conjunction with Margaret Duprey, Cherry Knoll Farm, Barbara Summer, and Bill and Sandy Kimmel. Margaret McIntosh (USA) and her own Rio Rio topped Grade Ia, Sydney Collier (USA) and Western Rose, owned by Wes Dunham, earned the blue for Grade Ib, Angela Peavy (USA) and Lancelot Warrior, owned by Rebecca Reno, garnered first place in Grade III, and Mary Jordan and Rubicon 75, owned by Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center, took home the rosette in Grade IV. The Para Equestrian Dressage Tour includes the $10,000 CPEDI3* January 8-10, and the $10,000 CPEDI3* January 21-24, 2016. The FEI ground jury for January 8-10 includes President Kristi Wysocki (USA), Carlos Lopes (POR), and Marco Orsini (GER). Following the Team Test competition is the Individual Test on Saturday, January 9, and the Freestyle on Sunday.

The riders were tested on Friday not only on their FEI Dressage tests but on how they deal with continually changing weather that included sessions of pouring rain. The riders kept their focus while riding in the beautiful and large Stadium at the PBIEC. The atmosphere resembled many of the World Games’ atmospheres making this CPEDI3* perfect practice for the upcoming 2016 Rio Paralympics.

Paraylmpian Rebecca Hart commented, “I cannot thank Mission Control, Mane Stream, Rowan O’Riley, Adequan®, and Nutrena enough for hosting the show and putting us in the limelight where we need to be, especially in a Paralympic year. The venue has been amazing, the support crew has done an incredible job adapting our arena and having to change it from short to long; It’s been a wonderful experience and we are in the right atmosphere to get us prepped for Rio.”

Hart and Schroeter’s Romani earned the high score of the day with a 74.167% in Grade II. She noted, “I loved my ride today. We tweaked a few things from Texas and Nationals and she has been coming into her own in the last few months. The main thing was we went without stirrups, which is always a little scary, but it has really helped our connection, flow, and harmony. We have always had the power and expression but we wanted to make it smooth through the entire thing. With the condition I have there is a lot of spasticity involved and it’s a progressive condition. So as the years have progressed I have gotten more spastic overtime. When I would hit the stirrup bar, when I was riding with stirrups, I would spasm and I would basically become a human clothespin. Romani would hesitate because she knew my body so well. I was talking to some of the European riders that have been doing it with their tests and they said to take my stirrups off. We’ve been doing that for the last couple of months and this is the second time we have been showing like that. I think it has really helped smoothed out the picture. Romani is really happy with it, she accepts my leg, and it came off really well today.”

Hart like many Para-Dressage riders spent the summer competing around the world including Europe. “It was an amazing summer,” Hart smiled. “It was like ‘pinch me is this real’. Romani handled the travel beautifully. We were competing against all of the top European riders which gave us a good barometer as what we needed to fix and improve. We took everything we learned over the summer, had some really great success over there, and brought it home. Now we have been continuing to build on it.”

Hart continued, “I want to thank Todd Flettrich, Margaret Duprey of Cherry Knoll Farm, my groom Fernando Ortega, Barbara Summer, and Bill and Sandy Kimmel. Without them I wouldn’t have gone to Europe or competed here in Florida.

Before Hart moved to Florida she resided and trained in Pennsylvania alongside Margaret McIntosh. McIntosh earned the first place accolade in Grade Ia with her own Rio Rio with a score of 72.754%. “Today felt good especially coming from a disappointing show in Texas this summer. Texas was awful because the horses were in the trailer for two days and Missy (Ransehousen), my trainer, had chickenpox and she still managed to get there. She is the most loyal trainer ever. Rio was not herself in Texas. She was really sluggish all three days and spooked in the middle of the freestyle. Since then we have been working hard on her fitness. Kentucky Equine Research has made a diet specific to her, Missy has been riding Rio very forward, and she and Jessica (Ransehousen) are working together to make Rio her best. I also worked with Clive Milkins and he, Missy, and Jessica together were a powerhouse of information and slapped Rio into shape. Clive said that hard work, studying the basics of rhythm, straightness, harmony and balance have helped us. Just correct and accurate training. Having Clive, Missy, and Jessica on my team have been a great privilege. I can only hope Rio is just as wonderful tomorrow.”

Sydney Collier and Western Rose
Sydney Collier and Western Rose

In Grade Ib, 2014 World Equestrian Games Athlete Sydney Collier took the lead with Wes Dunham’s Western Rose. Western Rose competed in the 2012 London Paralympics with Donna Ponessa but this was Collier’s first international CPEDI3* with the mare. Collier stated, “Rosie was so fun to ride today. She has her own engine and she knows how to give me that forward impulsion. I just have to manage her gaits. That is the first time I have ever shown her and it’s not too shabby for the first time in the International ring with me.”

Collier continued, “I was so proud of both of my horses today. I couldn’t do any of this without them. Scampano’s warmup usually takes longer than it did today. I could have gone into the show ring after two minutes on him. He was great and his test came together very smoothly. Since competing in Texas at the CPEDI3* and National Championships he has really developed his quality of gait.”

Collier concluded, “It’s been really cool to work with such amazing talented horses and people. I am so thankful to Wes Dunham, Karen Ramsing-Bixler of KCR Dressage LLC, Allyn Maix of Choice of Champions, all of my other sponsors, my family, and Mission Control and Mane Stream. I am also enjoying showing in The Stadium ring. It is totally different than being under the covered arena. I love it. I went out there once with Willi Wesley so I knew the ring but it’s totally different getting to show in there. It feels like the real deal.”

In Grade III, 2014 World Equestrian Games Athlete Annie Peavy and Rebecca Reno’s Lancelot Warrior earned the top score of 71.360%. Peavy stated, “My team test was great. Lance felt very in front of me and was connected with me at a different level than he has been in the past. Our partnership has been progressing over the year and today he was soft and energetic. Tomorrow I will make sure the energy keeps going. I really love showing in The Stadium. It’s a different level of international competition which is exciting but you still have to concentrate though.”

Peavy’s family Mission Control is presenting the $10,000 CPEDI3*. Peavy noted, “My parents are very supportive of everything I do and continue to help me follow my dreams. I want to thank them for sponsoring the show and everything they do with Lance and Ozzy (Ozzy Cooper). I also want to thank Mane Stream, Rowan O’Riley, my trainer Heather Blitz, Alexia my groom, and Global for hosting us and being so nice and accommodating.”

Annie Peavy’s mom, Rebecca Reno, added, “We absolutely adore Global and Jimmy does an amazing job keeping these grounds beautiful. It’s perfect to watch the riders in the international arena because you can tell this experience will help get the riders ready for Rio.”

Rowan O’Riley of Mane Stream also added, “I am so proud to be a part of the Para-Dressage effort and I really admire the way these riders push the limits. I have had the pleasure of seeing Annie Peavy compete for a while and I have worked with Mane Stream in NJ and their therapeutic riding center. My own daughter has cerebral palsy and she became able through her riding. I am getting to know all the riders and their horses and they have beautiful quality in their horses and the riders are excellent riders.”

Rounding out the Grades was Grade IV winner and 2010 World Equestrian Games athlete Mary Jordan and Rubicon 75, owned by Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center. The Para-Dressage Tour $10,000 CPEDI3* scheduled January 7-10, 2016, continues on Saturday with the Individual Test competition in The Stadium at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center.

Hope Hand, President of the USPEA, noted, “We had a wonderful welcome reception under the VIP tent at the Global Dressage Festival show grounds. The reception marked the beginning of the last two Paralympic qualifiers. More than 90 athletes, grooms, sponsors and supporters attended. It was really gratifying to see such a turn out which emphasized just how much Para Dressage has grown over the last few years. Much of our success is due to a large part of Lloyd Landkamer’s vision of inclusion for the Para Equestrian athletes at the Global events. We miss Lloyd, but he will never be forgotten for his contributions to our sport. Thank you to our sponsors, Mission Control, Mane Stream, Rowan O’Riley, Adequan®, and Nutrena for kicking off the Road to Rio competitions. Good luck to everyone and enjoy some great rides.”

I watched everyone school today and the horses look fitter, they have the right trainers, they look even better than they did in Houston at the CPEDI3* where they had the highest U.S. team score ever. They look ready for the job. The United States riders are great. I’m looking forward to seeing clean, precise tests with no mistakes, good rhythm, good connections, and good corners. We have riders that are out competing around the world. They are riding in one stars and three stars and winning in Europe. We have good sponsors, good support, more people are involved, and the program is growing. I see no reason why these riders can’t compete to their best this weekend. Premier Equestrian to Recognize Winning Attitudes at the 2016 Adequan Global Dressage Festival

Marcus Orlob, on Shyriana, wins the Premier Equestrian Award at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival (Photo courtesy of JRPR).

Wellington, FL (January 5, 2016) – Premier Equestrian is returning to the Adequan Global Dressage Festival (AGDF) in 2016 as an official sponsor and partner of the major show series, and is once again presenting the Premier Equestrian Award throughout the competition. The award is given to competitors who demonstrate exemplary sportsmanship toward every horse and human that they encounter at the international show, therefore being worthy of the title of “Premier Equestrian.”

Premier Equestrian, a leading provider of dressage arenas and arena footing, is excited to present the Premier Equestrian Award to dressage riders at each of the CDI competitions at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival. “We take pride in recognizing riders who are not only competitive, but also kind and friendly to other competitors and show staff, put their horses first, and contribute to a positive overall atmosphere,” says Heidi Zorn, president and founder of Premier Equestrian. “Premier Equestrian is dedicated to dressage and our goal is to provide safe and functional products. We want to promote the well-being of the horse and industry, and we are proud to sponsor this award.”

Riders who demonstrate these values will receive a lovely tri-colored Premier Equestrian Award ribbon, an engraved plaque, and the title of “Premier Equestrian.” Premier Equestrian is confident that this award will let competitors know that their outstanding attitudes are being noticed and appreciated, and will encourage all riders to enter the show ring with winning spirits.

The award’s name is based on the title that Premier Equestrian uses when referring to the elite group of internationally successful equestrians who demonstrate positive attitudes and qualities – including Akiko Yamazaki, Linda Parelli, and dressage riders Steffen Peters, Laura Graves, Debbie McDonald, Adrienne Lyle, along with show jumper Luca Moneta. These official “Premier Equestrians” can serve as role models to those who aspire to earn the Premier Equestrian Award at the 2016 Adequan Global Dressage Festival.

“Our Premier Equestrians are people dedicated to the development and preservation of horse sport,” states Kathryn Rustad, Premier Equestrian’s Internal Marketing Director. “These people have accomplished high levels of competition, generated awareness of the sport, shared knowledge and training techniques to better serve the industry, or have impacted the equestrian culture through their kindness, support, and good sportsmanship.”

A past Premier Equestrian Award winner, Greta Wrigley, summed up the company’s values well when she said, “I really love the sport of dressage. I want to make it fun for everybody else. If there is something I can do to make it easy or help someone else, for me, that is what it is all about.”

Premier Equestrian keeps an eye out for individuals like Wrigley at competitions like the upcoming South Florida show series to recognize those that demonstrate exemplary sportsmanship.

Another Premier Equestrian Award winner, German rider Marcus Orlob, added, “I think showing should be fun for the horse. It’s important that they feel the inspiration from you to feel good.”

The upcoming 2016 Adequan Global Dressage Festival will feature twelve weeks of world-class dressage competition in Wellington, Florida. Equestrian Sports Productions, the host of the Adequan Global Dressage Festival, is grateful to sponsors like Premier Equestrian for making the fifth annual Adequan Global Dressage Festival possible. Mark Bellissimo, CEO of Equestrian Sports Productions, comments, “With the support of the many dedicated sponsors at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival, we have worked from the beginning to inspire the sport of dressage in America and take it to the next level.”

Premier Equestrian is also eager for the 2016 Adequan Global Dressage Festival and the opportunity to show its support for the world of dressage. The company offers high-quality and affordable products to dressage riders – including premier dressage arenas, world-class arena footing, revolutionized horse jumps, and accessories. Piaffe Performance Puts Global Dressage Festival Adult Amateurs in a Frame

Wellington, FL (January 3, 2013) – Getting one’s horse ‘in a frame’ is a foundation for good riding but when the 2014 Adequan Global Dressage Festival (GDF) opens January 8 at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Wellington, it’s adult amateur riders going in to frames – and silver ones at that – thanks to a the Piaffe Performance Adult Amateur Achievement Award, sponsored by Dr. Cesar Parra and Piaffe Performance Farm.

Now in its second year at the GDF, the Piaffe Performance Adult Amateur Award will be presented throughout the GDF CDI series, recognizing exceptional adult amateurs for either their success in the arena or their contribution to the sport through outstanding sportsmanship or horsemanship.

Each award-winning rider will receive a Piaffe Performance rosette commemorating their achievement, as well as an engraved silver picture frame to hold a lasting memory of their ride and horse.

“I have learned so much from my adult amateur riders about perseverance and commitment,” said Parra who was on the US Team during the past CDIO Nations Cup show at the Global Dressage Festival, and won the Freestyle last year with Van the Man.  “Through this award, I hope Piaffe Performance can play a role in encouraging such riders.  They are the heart of our sport.”

The 2014 Adequan Global Dressage Festival, one of the world’s largest international and national dressage circuits, will feature six CDIs, the only non-championship CDIO Nations Cup in the Western Hemisphere, and five national title events before its conclusion in March.
