Aniello Completes FEI World Cup Vaulting Final in Seventh Place

Lexington, KY – The FEI World Cup Vaulting Final wrapped up in Braunschweig, Germany Sunday, March 17, 2013 with France and Italy earning the top spots in the Men’s and Women’s Finals respectively. A total of seven nations took part in the two Finals and, demonstrating the growth of the sport over the past few years, the United States was represented for the first time by male vaulter Gabe Aniello.

Aniello (Redwood City, CA) was lunged by Elke Schlep-Lensing on Pino del Rio to a seventh place finish. In the first round held on March 16th, the 21-year-old scored 7.526 with high technique marks of 8.078 and 8.132. Aniello returned to competition the next day with another strong performance, vaulting to an improved score of 7.747. He completed on a two-day total of 7.636.

Claiming top honors in the Men’s division was Nicolas Andreani of France on a score of 8.829 with Germany’s Thomas Brusewitz and France’s Ivan Nousse earning second and third place respectively on scores of 8.792 and 8.591. In the Women’s competition top honors went to Italy’s Anna Cavallaro with a score of 8.972. Earning second place was Switzerland’s Simone Jaiser on a score of 8.668 and third went to Germany’s Jennifer Braun with a score of 8.477.

Aniello Set to Compete as First American at FEI World Cup Vaulting Final

Lexington, KY – Gabe Aniello (Redwood City, CA) is set to compete at the FEI World Cup Vaulting Final in Braunchweig, Germany March 14-17. Aniello is the first American vaulter to qualify to compete in the FEI World Cup Vaulting Final. He will vault on Pino del Rio and be lunged by Elke Schelp-Lensing. Aniello will contend against five other top male vaulters including France’s Nicolas Andreani and Ivan Nousse, Lukas Klouda of the Czech Republic, Germany’s Torben Jacobs, and Koen Akkerman of The Netherlands.

Aniello has found success on the international competition scene. He represented the U.S. last year at the 2012 FEI World Vaulting Championship in Le Mans, France, where he placed tenth in the Individual Male championship. Aniello qualified for the FEI World Cup Vaulting Final with solid performances in CVI-W competitions in Paris, France, Leipzig, Germany and Bordeaux, France. The 21-year-old began his qualification process with a third-place finish in Paris at the beginning of December lunged by Schelp-Lensing on Pino del Rio. He then kicked off the new year with a sixth-place effort in Leipzig partnering again with Pino del Rio and Schelp-Lensing, prior to claiming his Final’s qualification with a fourth-place finish in Bordeaux with Carlos 190 and lunger Schelp-Lensing.

Aniello Becomes First American to Qualify for the FEI World Cup Vaulting Final

Lexington, KY – The United States has a qualified vaulter to compete in the FEI World Cup Vaulting Final for the first time in 2013. Gabe Aniello is among six of the top male vaulters in the world to qualify to compete at the 2013 Final in Braunschweig, Germany March 14-17.

Aniello (Redwood City, CA) is no stranger to international competition after having represented the U.S. at the 2012 FEI World Vaulting Championship, where he placed tenth in the Individual Male championship. He has qualified for the FEI World Cup Vaulting Final on the strength of competitive performances in CVI-W competition in Paris, France, Leipzig, Germany and Bordeaux, France. The 21-year-old began his qualification process with a third place finish in Paris at the beginning of December. He then kicked off the new year with a sixth place effort in Leipzig, prior to claiming his Final’s qualification with a fourth place finish in Bordeaux.

Aniello Sits in Ninth in Individual Male Championship after Day 2 of FEI World Vaulting Championship

Le Mans, France – On the second day of competition at the FEI World Vaulting Championship, the U.S. vaulters had a day of strong performances. Gabe Aniello (Redwood City, CA) leads the U.S. vaulters in the Individual Male Championships, currently sitting in ninth place with a total score of 7.277. Aniello partnered with Forrest Cump and lunger Agnes Forst.

“I had a rough beginning but I pulled it together at the end,” Aniello commented on his performance. “It is very humbling to compete at the World Championship and I am learning a lot from the experience. We all are so appreciative of the great horses that we have and of the owners who have loaned them to us. Many, many, many thanks!”

Kristian Roberts (Moss Beach, CA) has a total score of 6.991, putting him in 12th place. Vaulting on Forrest Cump and lunged by Forst, Roberts put forth a strong effort in his Free Test performance today. Patrick Stevens (Martinez, CA) sits in 13th place with a total score of 6.988, after vaulting on Maxwell and being lunged by Anouk Dory.
