Florida Governor Rick Scott Approves $2 Million for Ocala’s Florida Horse Park

Florida Horse Park and Foundation for the Florida Horse Park to Launch $2 Million Capital Campaign

(Ocala, Florida) — The Florida Horse Park and the Foundation for the Florida Horse Park held a joint press conference this morning, May 22, 2013, to announce the launch of a $2 million capital campaign to expand the Florida Horse Park and Agricultural Center (Florida Horse Park) at its Ocala location. This major funding campaign comes on the heels of Florida Governor Rick Scott’s signing of Monday’s 2013-2014 General Appropriations Act allocating a $2 million to the Park with a goal of matching this funding.

About the Florida Horse Park (i.e. Florida Agricultural Center and Horse Park)

The Park offers international caliber competition courses, an exciting schedule of world-class events that are drawing top competitors and spectators from every horse sport discipline, locally and globally, and educational opportunities for the horse enthusiast. This increasingly popular destination for family tourism offers visitors hundreds of miles of pristine riding trails that wind through the lush Florida Greenway and a diversity of non-equestrian events throughout the year.

The Park hosts over a hundred equestrian and non-equestrian events. The Florida Horse Park is the ideal venue for local, national and international competitions in virtually every equine discipline from 3-day eventing, dressage, driving to polo to versatility challenges.  The trail system is one of the best in the country. Non-equestrian events include a Hero Rush, holiday parades, dog trials, and more! Park events consistently draw spectators from throughout the U.S., South America and Europe who are interested in enjoying all the Park has to offer.

The Park is fast becoming one of the top tourist and equestrian destinations in the country.  The Florida Horse Park represents Ocala/Marion Country and the state of Florida to equestrian and tourist markets around the world.  This venue, with the assistance of our community and the state of Florida, is creating a large-scale economic impact for the state.  The Park is a showcase for demonstrating that Marion County is indeed “The Horse Capital of the World”! Ocala, FL (February 10, 2012) – Chester Weber kicked off his 2012 show season in familiar style – by winning the Advanced Horse Team division at the Sunshine State FEI Combined Driving Event at the Florida Horse Park. Weber, the eight-time United States National Four-In-Hand Champion, competed Splash, Boris W, Para and Uniek as a team to handily win the Four-In-Hand division by a margin of 85 points over second place.

“I was very pleased with our entire team’s performance. I competed in the Four-In-Hand with great success and Olof Larsson, my barn manager, competed Reno W in the Advanced Single Horse and won his class,” Weber said.

Weber added that Boris W, a new horse on his team that he refers to as “the youngster,” proved he has international star power during the Sunshine State CDE. “Boris W did a great job all three days in the left lead and is now qualified for the WC in Riesenbeck should we need him,” Weber said. Boris W’s teammates gained great success during 2011, when Splash and Uniek, owned by Jane Forbes Clark, and Para, owned by Weber, won the National Combined Driving Four-In-Hand Horse Of The Year title.
