Emanuel Andrade Steps into the Big Leagues at WEF

Wellington, Florida – 17-year-old Emanuel Andrade of Caracas, Venezuela enjoyed great success in grand prix competition during Week VI of the FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) running January 8 through March 30 in Wellington, FL.

Andrade, who trains with Hollow Creek Farm of Aiken, SC, stepped up into the international open jumper divisions to earn multiple top-five finishes against some of the most seasoned veterans in the sport of show jumping during WEF Week VI of competition, held February 12-16.

On WEF Week VI’s opening day of competition, Andrade set the tone for the week ahead by winning the $6,000 Spy Coast Farm 1.40m Speed class riding Reve du Paradis, Hollow Creek Farm’s nine-year-old Selle Francais gelding (Crown Z x Adelfos).

“My trainer told me not to try to win, but just to go smooth,” said Andrade of his strategy for Wednesday’s opening competition.  He also gave insight about Reve du Paradis, saying, “He is a green horse, but he tries hard to jump clear.  He was a stallion in Europe and is gelded now, but he still thinks he’s a stallion and that can sometimes be difficult.”

Andrade continued, “He feels amazing.  He was eight last year, so he was a baby.  He jumped great last year, but this year he is jumping so well.  He is jumping much, much better.”

The following day, Andrade returned to the international ring, this time for the $34,000 Ruby et Violette WEF Challenge Cup Round VI, which was also held as a speed class.  His partner was ZZ Top v/h Schaarbroek Z, a 13-year-old Zangersheide gelding (Zandor Z x Latus I) owned by Hollow Creek Farm.  Competing against a large starting field of 74 entries, Andrade posted a fast and faultless round over the course designed by Great Britain’s Richard Jeffery, stopping the clock at 75.67 seconds to finish in fourth place.

Andrade’s biggest international class of the week came on Friday night, where he proved his stamina and consistency with ZZ Top v/h Schaarbroek Z to take fifth place in the $84,000 CSI3* Salamander Hotels & Resorts Grand Prix.  With a clear first round, Andrade was one of eight riders to advance to the jump-off where he posted the fastest four-fault effort.  His time of 37.89 seconds was only bettered by United States Show Jumping Team veteran Kent Farrington, who was clear in 36.58 seconds to take the win riding Blue Angel.

As WEF Week VI played host to the annual World Champion Hunter Rider series, show jumping competitors experienced a change of venue, with all major classes taking place at the Global Dressage Festival Stadium, usually reserved for CDI dressage competition.

“I love that ring and I love that place,” said Andrade of the all-weather ring, which many noted had a decidedly European atmosphere.  “I think it is great for the horse show to have the competition over there, because sometimes the horses need different rings.  I really liked jumping there.”

In addition to his grand prix success, Andrade has been racking up numerous wins and championship titles in the Junior Jumper divisions during the first half of the 12-week WEF.  As one of the busiest junior riders on the circuit, Andrade typically has 10 or more mounts in the Junior Jumper divisions.  Highlights from Week VI included double wins on February15 in the Low Junior Jumper division with Windline and in the Medium Junior Jumper division with La Fe Forli.  Andrade claimed the Reserve Championship titles in both the Low Junior Jumper and Medium Junior Jumper divisions for WEF Week VI, bringing his tally thus far to six junior jumper championship titles and eight reserve championship titles.

Success at WEF is nothing new for Andrade, who was named the overall Leading Jumper Rider in 2013.  Also at the 2013 FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival, Andrea King was named the Leading Jumper Trainer while Hollow Creek Farm received the Leading Jumper Owner Award.

Hollow Creek Farm is a major sponsor of the FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival, presenting the Medium Junior Jumper division each week as well as being the title sponsor of the second annual Children’s, Junior and Young Riders’ Nations’ Cup competition during WEF Week VIII, running February 26 through March 2.

Wellington, FL – February 12, 2014 – The 2014 FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival (FTI WEF) kicked off its sixth week of competition on Wednesday with a $6,000 Spy Coast Farm 1.40m speed class held in the International Ring at The Stadium at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center (PBIEC) with a win for Venezuela’s Emanuel Andrade and Reve du Paradis.

FTI WEF week six, sponsored by Salamander Resort & Spa, runs February 12-16, 2014. The week features the coveted World Championship Hunter Rider (WCHR) competition, with hunters taking to the International Arena at PBIEC for their daily classes, weekly championships, and a chance to compete in Saturday night’s $100,000 USHJA/WCHR Peter Wetherill Palm Beach Hunter Spectacular.

As the hunters are featured on the main showgrounds at PBIEC, the highlight jumper competitions will be held on the adjacent showgrounds at The Stadium at PBIEC. Exciting jumper classes will be held on the beautiful grass derby field at The Stadium, including the $34,000 Suncast 1.50m Championship Jumper Classic at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, and the $50,000 Equestrian Sotheby’s Jumper Derby at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. The $34,000 Ruby et Violette WEF Challenge Cup Round 6 will be held in the International Ring at The Stadium at 1 p.m. on Thursday afternoon. A special $84,000 Salamander Resort and Spa Valentine’s Grand Prix CSI 3* will also be held in the International Ring at The Stadium at PBIEC at 7 p.m. on Friday night as part of the “Friday Night Stars” series.

Great Britain’s Richard Jeffery is the course designer at The Stadium at PBIEC for week six competition. Jeffery saw 32 competitors in Wednesday morning’s $6,000 Spy Coast Farm 1.40m with nine clear rounds through the course. Seventeen-year-old Emanuel Andrade, of Caracas, Venezuela, was the winner aboard Hollow Creek Farm’s Reve du Paradis. Andrade and the nine-year-old Selle Francais gelding (Crown Z x Adelfos) cleared the course in 73.22 seconds.

Second place honors went to Luis Felipe de Azevedo Filho (BRA) with a clear round in 78.56 seconds aboard Paulo Stewarts’ Quoste Zavaan Texas. Emily George (CAN) and Mira VIII placed third in 80.20 seconds. Jorge Matte (CHI) finished fourth in 81.31 seconds with Carla TM, and Jennifer Goddard (USA) placed fifth with Stateside Farm LLC’s Lucky Lord 20 in 83.60 seconds.

Andrade has had Reve du Paradis for a year and half and has been competing the gray gelding in the Eight-Year-Old Young Jumper and Junior Jumper divisions until this year. Wednesday’s class was the pair’s first time moving up to the 1.40m level this year, and Andrade was very happy with his round, explaining that Reve du Paradis is constantly improving.

“He was eight last year, so he was a baby,” Andrade noted. “He jumped great last year, but this year he is jumping so well. He is jumping much, much better.”

“He doesn’t know what he has to do, he is a green horse, but he tries hard to jump clear,” Andrade said. “He is a little bit tricky. He is a hard horse, he is difficult. He was a stallion in Europe and he is a gelding now, but he still thinks he’s a stallion and that can sometimes be difficult.”

Andrade explained that the plan for this class was to have a nice, smooth course.

“My trainer told me not to try to win, but just to go smooth,” he described. “I went really smooth and no one else jumped that smooth. The others had some trouble with the course and my horse jumped great, so I am happy.”

“He feels amazing,” the rider added. “The course for me was difficult because the ring is so tiny and I have never been in that ring before, but I am so excited and I am so proud of myself because we did a great job.”

Andrade enjoyed competing in the different venue at The Stadium and explained that the horses also enjoy the change of scenery.

“I love that ring and I love that place,” Andrade stated. “I think it is great for the horse show to have the competition over there because sometimes the horses need different rings. They jump better because they don’t like all of the weeks in the same ring, so I really liked jumping there.”

Another $6,000 Spy Coast Farm 1.40m speed class was held in the Denemethy Ring at the main showgrounds of PBIEC on Wednesday with a win for Laura Chapot and Bradberry. Chapot also topped the $6,000 Spy Coast Farm 1.40m jump-off class with Mary Chapot’s Umberto. An $8,000 G&C Farm 1.45m class was held in the morning as well with a win for Peter Wylde and Apple 3Z, owned by Aram Ampagoumian.

Week six competition will continue on Thursday with the first championships of WCHR week presented in the International Arena at PBIEC. The International Ring at The Stadium will host the $34,000 Ruby et Violette WEF Challenge Cup Round 6 at 1 p.m. For full results, please visit www.showgroundslive.com.

Wellington, Florida – Emanuel Andrade of Caracas, Venezuela, kicked off 12 weeks of international competition at the 2014 FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) in Wellington, Florida in a big way.

The 17-year-old racked up top placings aboard a wide range of mounts owned by Hollow Creek Farm of Aiken, South Carolina, at week one the 2014 FTI WEF, sponsored by the Mar-a-Lago Club and held January 8-12 at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center (PBIEC).

Andrade’s successful opening week was capped off on Sunday when he was awarded the High Junior Jumper Championship title.  He piloted Carboni to a sixth place finish in Thursday’s $1,500 class and followed up with a win in the $1,500 speed round on Friday.  In Sunday’s $10,000 High Junior Jumper Classic, Andrade finished second to clinch the overall division championship title.

Andrade was also Reserve Champion in the Medium Junior Jumper division, generously sponsored by Hollow Creek Farm, with the eight-year-old Argentinean Warmblood mare, Black Pearl.  After earning a top 10 result in the opening class of the division, Andrade secured the Reserve Championship title with an impressive win in Sunday’s $10,000 Medium Junior Jumper Classic.

Additional highlights of Andrade’s opening week at the FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival included top 10 placings with multiple mounts – La Fe Forli, Tiny Tim, Windline, and Wilkina Lithya – in the Low, Medium and High Junior Jumper divisions.  He also contested various open jumper classes, earning a fourth place finish aboard Crossfire 10 in Friday’s $6,000 1.40m class, as well as a ninth place finish with La Fe Forli in the $6,000 1.40m Speed Challenge, held the same day.

“It was a great week; we are thrilled!” commented Andrade’s trainer, Andrea King of Hollow Creek Farm.

Andrade is no stranger to the FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival, having been named the Leading Jumper Rider in 2013 despite his young age.  Also in 2013, King was named the Leading Jumper Trainer while Hollow Creek Farm was awarded Leading Jumper Owner title.  A sign of things to come, Andrade also earned the Future Champions Leading Junior Jumper Rider award in 2012 after winning six Championship and 12 Reserve Championship titles.

Andrade recently made his Venezuelan Show Jumping Team debut at the 2013 Bolivarian Games in Trujillo, Pero, where he helped to bring home the Team Gold Medal.  One month later, he started the 2014 season off strong, beating out veteran professionals, including Lauren Hough, Todd Minikus and Ian Millar, to win the $25,000 New Year’s Grand Prix held December 29 at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center.

A student in his hometown of Caracas, Andrade splits his time between competing in Venezuela and the United States.

Emanuel Andrade Wins $25,000 New Year’s Grand Prix

Wellington, Florida – One month after celebrating a Team Gold Medal in the 2013 Bolivarian Games in Trujillo, Peru, Emanuel Andrade of Caracas, Venezuela, was back in the winner’s circle after claiming the $25,000 New Year’s Grand Prix on Sunday, December 29, in Wellington, Florida.

Andrade, 17, made his debut for the Venezuelan Show Jumping Team at the Bolivarian Games riding ZZ Top v/h Schaarbroek.  The same horse carried him to victory in the $25,000 New Year’s Grand Prix, where Andrade defeated a 30-horse starting field in the International Arena at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center.  Five riders returned for the jump-off, with Andrade posting the fastest clear effort to take the win.

“I was third going back for the jump-off, and the first two had jumped clear and really fast,” explained Andrade.  “I jumped three seconds faster.  The last two riders had almost the same time as me, but had fences down.”

Andrade was understandably thrilled with his victory, having edged out such seasoned professionals as U.S. Equestrian Team veterans Todd Minikus and Lauren Hough, as well as 10-time Canadian Olympian Ian Millar.

“I’m so thrilled!” said Andrade who trains with Andrea King of Hollow Creek Farm in Aiken, South Carolina.  “It feels so good.  I’m so excited.  I really worked hard these last three weeks with Andrea.”

Andrade began riding ZZ Top v/h Schaarbroek, owned by Hollow Creek Farm, mid-way through the 2013 FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida.

“He jumped so well,” said Andrade of the 12-year-old bay Zangersheide gelding (Zandor Z x Latus I).  “He matches nicely with me, and we are a team now.”

The win marked the second grand prix victory of Andrade’s young career.  In June, he won the $50,000 Grand Prix of Roanoke at the Roanoke Valley Horse Show in Salem, Virginia, riding Walter 61.

In addition to claiming the win in the $25,000 New Year’s Grand Prix, Andrade also won the High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic on the same day riding Tiny Tim.  Having won the two classes offered earlier in the week riding Luky des Rocquelines and Tiny Tim, Andrade was favored to take Sunday’s Classic title.  He did not disappoint, winning without the need for a jump-off.  Having made a clean sweep of the division, Andrade was named the High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Champion with Tiny Tim, an 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding (No Limit x Nimmerdor) purchased from Nick Skelton.

Andrade now has his sights set on the 2014 FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival opening January 8 and running for 12 weeks.  In addition to contesting the Low, Medium and High Junior Jumper divisions, Andrade will also be going head-to-head with seasoned professionals in the grand prix divisions.

“Especially after today’s win, we feel so ready for that,” said Andrade.  “This year, we want to go to the next level and jump Saturday nights.  We know it’s hard, but we think we are ready for it.”

At only 16 years of age, Andrade was named the Leading Jumper Rider of the 2013 FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival while King was named the Leading Jumper Trainer and Hollow Creek Farm was named the Leading Jumper Owner.  A student in his hometown of Caracas, Andrade divides his time between competing in Venezuela and the United States.

Emanuel Andrade Accelerates at Kentucky Spring Classic

Emanuel Andrade guided ZZ Top v/h Schaarbroek Z to an eighth place finish in the $75,000 Mary Rena Grand Prix. Photos by Rebecca Walton/Phelps Media Group.

Lexington, Kentucky – It was another week of show jumping success for Emanuel Andrade of Venezuela as the 16-year-old continued to test his skills against the top professionals at the 2013 Kentucky Spring Classic held May 15 to 19 in Lexington, KY.

Having dominated the Junior Jumper divisions for the past two seasons, Andrade is quickly proving he has what it takes to compete against the sport’s top professionals.  During the Kentucky Spring Classic, Andrade qualified two mounts for the 13-horse jump-off in the week’s featured event, Saturday night’s $75,000 Mary Rena Murphy Grand Prix.  His jump-off time with Walter 61 would have been fast enough for the win, but a rail down left the pair in seventh place in the final standings.  Another four-fault jump-off effort earned Andrade eighth place with ZZ Top v/h Schaarbroek Z.

One week earlier during the Kentucky Spring Horse Show held May 8 to 12, Andrade had placed third from a competitive field of 42 entries in the $20,000 Bluegrass Classic riding Walter 61, a 12-year-old Sachsen-Anhaltiner gelding owned by Hollow Creek Farm.

Andrade also competed in the Open Jumper divisions at heights of 1.30m, 1.40m, and 1.45m, scoring several wins against the professionals.  Carboni picked up two wins in the 1.30m division, while Boccaccio also scored victory at the same level.  In the Seven and Eight-Year-Old Young Jumper division, Andrade guided Black Pearl to victory.

In the Low Junior Jumper division, open to riders aged 14 to 18, Andrade scored a hat trick in Friday’s competition, sweeping the top three spots.  He won with Carboni, placed second with Casanova Junior, and rounded out the top three with Luky des Rocquelines.  Having also won the $2,500 Low Junior Jumper Classic with Quebec Star and placed second with Luky des Rocquelines, it was no surprise that Andrade took home both the Championship and Reserve Championship titles in the Low Junior Jumper division.  In fact, it was the second week in a row that Andrade and Quebec Star were crowned the Low Junior Jumper Champions.

In Friday’s High Junior/Amateur-Owner competition, Andrade topped a 31-horse starting field to win with Wilkina Lithya, a 10-year-old mare that he began riding during the winter season in Wellington, Florida.  He also placed third with Tiny Tim and seventh with La Fe Forli, and rode away with the Reserve Championship division title.

Angel Karolyi placed fourth with Indiana 127 in the $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic
Angel Karolyi placed fourth with Indiana 127 in the $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic

Andrade, who commutes between his native Venezuela where he is a student and the United States, trains with Angel Karolyi and Andrea King of Hollow Creek Farm in Aiken, SC.  Already a veteran of the Venezuelan Show Jumping Team, Karolyi, 26, also enjoyed a top 10 finish in the $20,000 Bluegrass Classic riding Amigo, a nine-year-old bay Zangersheide gelding, on the final day of competition.  During the first week of competition, Karolyi guided Indiana 127 to a fourth place finish in the $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic.

With their combined success at the Kentucky Spring Horse Shows, Hollow Creek Farm certainly made its mark during the two weeks of competition.

“I am super happy and grateful to have this opportunity with Hollow Creek,” said Andrade.  “I am trying to stay focused so I can continue winning.  Kentucky is one of my favorite shows here in the United States.  The whole team likes it here, and the horses love it.”

Andrade and the Hollow Creek team will return to Lexington in June for their next competition.  Held at the Kentucky Horse Park, site of the 2010 Alltech World Equestrian Games, the show jumping competition provides a unique opportunity for both horses and riders to gain experience competing at a major games venue.

Hollow Creek Farm has the unique distinction of winning three prestigious titles at the 2013 FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL.  At only 16 years of age, Andrade was named the Leading Jumper Rider, Andrea King was named the Leading Jumper Trainer, and Hollow Creek Farm was named the Leading Jumper Owner.

Emanuel Andrade and Wilkina Lithya Top High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumpers at Kentucky Spring Classic

Emanuel Andrade and Wilkina Lithya.

Lexington, KY – May 17, 2013 – The young talent was shining brightly today during the Kentucky Spring Classic as Emanuel Andrade led the team from Hollow Creek Farm to multiple victories in the jumper ring. His highlight of the day was during the High Junior/Amateur-Owner jumpers, where he piloted Wilkina Lithya to the win, followed by Tiny Tim in third, while Kate Morrison and Four Roses DL Vie Z placed second. Andrade also scored all three of the top ribbons in the Low Junior Jumpers. Earlier in the day, Katie Prudent and V took home honors in the 1.45m Open Jumpers with their quick and clean jump-off round.

All of today’s courses in the Rolex Stadium were designed by Conrad Homfeld, and were similar to last night’s grand prix with a triple combination and double combination. The jump-offs featured technical lines, as well as areas to showcase tight rollbacks and long gallops. The final class was the High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumpers where ten returned for the short course.

Andrade was the pathfinder with his first mount, Tiny Tim, owned by Hollow Creek Farm of Aiken, SC. They set the target in the jump-off by leaving all the fences intact and breaking the beam at 36.481 seconds, which would be good enough for third. He eventually bested his own time with his winning mount Wilkina Lithya, also owned by Hollow Creek Farm, later in the class. They shaved the turn in the first rollback and flew down to the final oxer to dash through the finish in 35.823 seconds. The clear effort would prove uncatchable and they would claim their winning stake.

“In the jump-off, I was super quick from the second fence to the third fence, and made a very tight turn,” stated Andrade. “I was also very fast to the last oxer. Wilkina Lithya is 10-year-old mare that we just bought in France. She was doing some 1.40m and 1.45m grand prixs there. I started riding her at WEF and she jumped between the Mediums and Highs, but now she is just doing the Highs.”

Andrade added, “She is very hot and, in the schooling area she can give me a hard time. I focus on keeping her calm, and by time we go in the ring she is fine. I’ve gotten to know her a lot better the last few months.”

The win came shortly after Andrade’s top three placings in the Low Junior Jumpers. The Kentucky Spring Shows have been very successful for the young rider, who jumped double clear rounds with all three mounts. Carboni, Casanova Junior, and Lucky Des Rocquelines finished first, second, and third respectively.

Andrade represents Venezuela internationally, but is currently riding for Hollow Creek Farm, and will be returning for the Kentucky Summer Series later this year. “I am super happy and grateful to have this opportunity with Hollow Creek,” he expressed. “I am trying to stay focused so I can continue winning. This is one of my favorite shows here in the United States. We were originally planning to go to New York this summer, but we have decided to stay here and show here over the summer because the whole team likes it here, and the horses love it.”

In the High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumpers, the only rider to best Andrade’s time with his first mount Tiny Tim was Kate Morrison with Four Roses DL Vie Z, owned by Craig Morrison of Dublin, OH. Their speedy jump-off effort claimed the second place award, and she also picked up fifth with her first mount, Windoctro. Leah DeMartini of Bronxville, NY slipped into the fourth place position with Elm Rock LLC’s True Love, while Daniela Stransky and Twister, owned by Stransky’s Mission Farms of Miami, FL, rounded out the top six and the double clear rounds.

Earlier in the day riders had the opportunity to showcase their mounts during the 1.45m Open Jumpers. Four riders advanced to the tiebreaker and all four posted double clear rounds. The first came clear came from the first duo on course: Richie Moloney with Freestyle De Muze for Equinimity LLC of Wellington, FL. They set the standard at 40.367 seconds, which placed fourth.

Katie Prudent and V
Katie Prudent and V

Katie Prudent was the next to tackle the jump-off aboard V, owned by Michael Smith of Winchester, VA. They had the most successful round, clocking in at 36.091 seconds with all the fences in place to eventually claim the win.

Fernando Cardenas and Quincy Car gave catching Prudent their best shot, but finished just 8/10ths a second behind the leading time for third. The last to show over the short course was Kent Farrington with Panama Tame, owned by Salamander Farms of The Plains, VA. They came even closer to Prudent’s time, but were still 7/10ths of a second shy to earn the second place award.

Although Prudent had been struggling with the strong mount last week, today played out perfectly. “V is very strong and I’ve been trying different bits,” she explained. “Each bit that I tried that was stronger just made him more mad, so today I just went back to my good old hackabit. He jumped beautifully and he likes when I let him go, so in the jump-off I just picked up a good gallop and let him do the whole course without interrupting him. He galloped around beautifully and everything came up nicely out of the turns. I felt like it was very smooth.”

Prudent continued, “He’s a strong horse and I’ve tried different bits on him, but like I said, if I try something strong on him he just gets mad. I just went back to the bit that he likes, the hackabit, and he’s still strong, but I can control him and he jumps really nicely in it. I think my experiments with different bits are over. I am just going to let him jump in the bit that he likes because he jumps well in it. I feel very good going into Spruce Meadows because he loves it there. The rings are big and I can let him gallop on, so he really likes that.”

Tomorrow, Andrade and Prudent will both be competing in the Kentucky Spring Classic’s highlight event. The $75,000 Mary Rena Murphy Grand Prix, sponsored by Audi of Lexington will get underway at 6:30p.m. at the Rolex Stadium in the Kentucky Horse Park. The show concludes with Sunday’s $20,000 Bluegrass Classic, where top riders will vie for the winning honors.

Emanuel Andrade Shines at Kentucky Spring Show

Lexington, Kentucky – Sixteen-year-old show jumping sensation Emanuel Andrade of Venezuela earned impressive results competing against some of the top riders in the world at the 2013 Kentucky Spring Show held May 8 to 12 in Lexington, KY.

Andrade was crowned the Low Junior Jumper Champion with Quebec Star, an eight-year-old Holsteiner gelding.  The pair won two out of the three classes comprising the Low Junior Jumper division, including the $2,500 Low Junior Jumper Classic, to take the Championship title, as well as the accompanying cooler and impressive trophy.  He won the third class with Carboni, and also posted top three finishes in the division with Luky des Rocquelines and Casanova Junior.

Proving his talent extends far beyond the junior ranks, Andrade scored an exciting third-place finish in the $20,000 Bluegrass Classic on Saturday, May 11.  In a competitive field of 42 entries which included numerous Olympians, Andrade and Walter 61, a 12-year-old Sachsen-Anhaltiner gelding owned by Hollow Creek Farm, put in a double-clear performance.  Their jump-off time of 39.01 seconds was just over the winning time of 38.87 seconds set by United States Equestrian Team veteran Kent Farrington riding Zidane.  Argentina’s Ramiro Quintana finished second riding Largo with a time of 38.88 seconds.

Andrade also earned a number of impressive results in the Open Jumpers, winning two 1.30m classes aboard Boccaccio and Wilkina Lithya, respectively.  With Wilkina Lithya, Andrade also finished fifth in the $10,000 High Junior Jumper Classic on Sunday, May 12.  He also placed second in a $5,000 1.40m competition with Costa and ninth in a $5,000 1.45m with Crossfire 10.

Proving that no challenge is too great, Andrade also demonstrated that he has what it takes to develop up-and-coming horses.  Riding Reve du Paradis, an eight-year-old Selle Francais gelding, Andrade placed second in two of the 7 and 8-Year-Old Jumper classes offered.

Andrade was not the only Venezuelan achieving success at the Kentucky Spring Show.  His coach, Angel Karolyi, guided Indiana 127, owned by Hollow Creek Farm, to a fourth place finish in the $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic on Thursday, May 9.  From the starting field of 43 horses, Karolyi and the 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding were one of six horse/rider combinations to jump double-clear, stopping the clock in 42.78 seconds.  The class was won by another Venezuelan Team veteran, Pablo Barrios.  The three-time World Equestrian Games competitor guided the nine-year-old Zara Leandra, who he has been riding for exactly one year, to the winning time of 38.25 seconds.

A competitive show jumper in his native Venezuela, Andrade has made a name for himself since bursting onto the North American jumper scene a little over a year ago.  In 2012, he was named the Future Champions Leading Junior Jumper Rider during the FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) in Wellington, FL, and, in 2013, earned the prestigious title of Leading Jumper Rider at the same competition.  Hollow Creek Farm of Aiken, SC, where Andrade trains with Karolyi and renowned horsewoman Andrea King, was named WEF’s Leading Jumper Owner for 2013, and King was named WEF’s Leading Jumper Trainer.

Jessica Springsteen and Emanuel Andrade Grab SSG Gloves Bonus Money

Jessica Springsteen is presented with a $2,000 bonus for wearing SSG ‘Digitals’ on her way to victory in the $15,000 High Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic. James Leslie Parker, The Book LLC.

Wellington, Florida – Two familiar faces were in the winner’s circle for the final SSG Riding Gloves “Go Clean for the Green” presentations of the season.  Jessica Springsteen became a three-time winner of the $15,000 SJHOF High Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic while Venezuela’s Emanuel Andrade picked up his second bonus of the season with a win in the $10,000 Griffis Group High Junior Jumper Classic at the FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL.

Held Saturday, March 30, the $15,000 SJHOF High Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic attracted a large starting field of 57 entries.  Seven were clear over the first round track to qualify for the jump-off.  There was no doubt that the $2,000 in bonus money, having doubled as it was not won during week 11, would be awarded; all seven jump-off contenders were wearing SSG ‘Digital’ riding gloves to be eligible.

Coming back second in the jump-off, Springsteen laid down another clear round in a time of 41.83 seconds riding Wish that would prove to be unbeatable.  The victory marked Springsteen’s third win of the 12-week Winter Equestrian Festival in the $15,000 SJHOF High Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic, having previously won during weeks four and six.  In total, Springsteen won $5,000 in bonus money in the SSG Riding Gloves “Go Clean for the Green” promotion.

“It’s crazy how much you can win!” exclaimed Springsteen, 21, of Colts Neck, NJ.  “I love the gloves, I think they’re great, and I think the promotion is so exciting.  It is a great idea.  I really like how if no one wins it, the bonus money rolls over.  It really adds up!”

Andrade, meanwhile, brought his final total of bonus money won to $4,000 in this season’s SSG ‘Go Clean for the Green’ promotion.  With only two riders able to find their way to a clear round in the final $10,000 Junior Jumper Classic of the season, Andrade was first back for the jump-off and set the pace with a clear round riding Crossfire 10.  When the only other jump-off contender, Eugenio Garza, faulted, victory went to the 16-year-old Venezuelan show jumping sensation.

“If you use the gloves, not only do you have the satisfaction of winning the class, you have the satisfaction of winning the bonus money, too!” said Andrade, who trains with Andrea King and Angel Karolyi of Hollow Creek Farm in Aiken, SC.  “I normally do not wear gloves, but I do for these classes because it’s so nice of them to run the promotion.  I want to support it.”

As he did the last time he won, Andrade gave his SSG bonus money to his grooms.  At the end of the 12-week circuit, it is a nice reward for a job well done!

A total of $60,000 in bonus money was on offer from SSG Riding Gloves at the 2013 FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival.  A $3,000 bonus was up for grabs in each of the weekly WEF Challenge Cup Series events, and a $1,000 bonus was on offer in the Amateur-Owner Jumper High Classic and the Junior Jumper High Classic competitions.  If not awarded, the bonus money carried forward to the next event in the series.

SSG ‘Digital’ Riding Gloves are available for purchase at numerous locations, including Beval Saddlery, Hadfield’s Saddlery, Jods, Running Fox and Tackeria.

Emanuel Andrade Scores Junior Division Hat Trick at WEF

Emanuel Andrade captured his second High Junior Jumper Championship title with his newest mount, ZZ Top v/h Schaarbroek Z. Mancini Photos.

Wellington, Florida – Emanuel Andrade of Venezuela dominated the junior jumper divisions during week 11 of the FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL.  The 16-year-old phenom captured Championship titles in the Low, Medium and High Junior Jumper divisions.

With the impressive triple win, Andrade brought the total number of championship titles he’s won since the start of the 12-week Winter Equestrian Festival to an even dozen.  He has also earned eight Reserve Championship titles so far at what is widely considered to be the most competitive show jumping circuit in the world.

Only one month into their partnership, Andrade and his newest mount, ZZ Top v/h Schaarbroek Z, took home their second High Junior Jumper Championship title after placing second in the $10,000 High Junior Jumper Classic on March 23 and the $1,500 High Junior Jumper class on March 21.  Andrade also finished fourth and 10th in the $10,000 High Junior Jumper Classic with Walter 61 and Crossfire 10, respectively.

The next day, Sunday, March 24, Andrade claimed the Medium Junior Jumper Championship aboard Costa, having won the $10,000 Medium Junior Jumper Classic.  In addition to his win with the 14-year-old Holsteiner mare owned by Hollow Creek Farm, Andrade also finished seventh with La Fe Forli, an 11-year-old Silla Argentina gelding, in the $10,000 Medium Junior Jumper Classic.

Making it three for three in the Junior divisions, Andrade earned the Low Junior Jumper Championship title riding Casanova Junior, a 14-year-old Oldenburg gelding owned by Hollow Creek Farm.  The pair won the $1,500 Low Junior Jumper class on Friday, March 22, and placed sixth in the $10,000 Low Junior Jumper Classic on Sunday, March 24.  The pair currently leads the 2013 Low Junior Jumper Circuit Standings at the Winter Equestrian Festival with just one week of competition left to go.

“It was a great weekend; Emanuel is getting a lot of mileage and his riding is getting more mature,” noted his coach, Angel Karolyi, of Venezuela.  “Little by little, as he matures, he’s starting to make the right decisions in the ring rather than the wrong ones.  Before, he used to get too excited in the jump-off and now, with experience, he’s learning to control his mind in the right direction.

“It’s harder for us Latins to control our emotions!” laughed Karolyi.

The successful new partnership between Andrade and ZZ Top v/h Schaarbroek Z is particularly rewarding for his coach.  The 12-year-old bay Zangersheide gelding was formerly ridden by both Kevin Staut and Michel Robert of France before going to Marc Bettinger of Germany.  In January, Bettinger and ZZ Top v/h Schaarbroek Z enjoyed a top 10 finish in the €75,000 CSI4* Grand Prix of Amsterdam before being purchased for Andrade by Hollow Creek Farm.

“ZZ Top is a new ride for Emanuel,” explained Karolyi.  “He was beautifully ridden in the past and has competed at the top level of the sport.  Emanuel has figured out how to get along with him and learned how to ride him fairly quickly, and he has already achieved success in the short month that he’s had him.”

On March 2, Andrade and ZZ Top v/h Schaarbroek Z were members of the team that placed third in the $20,000 Artisan Farms Young Rider Grand Prix Series team competition.  A student in his hometown of Caracas, Andrade divides his time between competing in the United States and in his home country.  While in Venezuela, Andrade competes as time permits, and enjoyed a grand prix victory on March 17.

While Andrade was winning the High Junior Jumper Championship in Wellington, his coach earned a top 10 finish in the $50,000 CSI2* Live Oak International Grand Prix in Ocala, FL, on March 23.  Having jumped clear over the track set by two-time Olympic course designer Leopoldo Palacios, Karolyi had an early rail down in the jump-off to place seventh in the final standings.

“I had an early rail in the jump-off so just decided to take it easy and go slow,” said Karolyi who was riding Indiana 127, an 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Hollow Creek Farm.  “I was really happy.  My horse performed well and jumped beautifully, and you can’t be upset with that.

“The horse has changed a lot since I got him,” continued Karolyi, who won the $30,000 Raleigh Grand Prix in North Carolina last November when he first took over the ride.  “There were little things that I had to figure out along the way, but I have learned a lot about him over the Wellington circuit.  I’m happy that I’m really getting to know him, and I’m looking forward to jumping some bigger classes with him this year.”

In addition to placing seventh in the $50,000 CSI2* Live Oak International Grand Prix, Karolyi also enjoyed a top 10 finish in the $5,000 Waldron Wealth Management 1.30m Power & Speed riding Amigo.  Hollow Creek Farm was a sponsor of the new show jumping tournament, now in its second year, presenting the $33,000 CSI2* Hollow Creek Farm Winning Round on Sunday, March 24.

“It was a lovely show, Chester Weber and the Live Oak team did a great job,” said Karolyi, who operates Hollow Creek Farm in Aiken, SC, with business partner Andrea King.  “The ring was in top condition, and I think it will continue to improve every year.  Hopefully they will hold a World Cup qualifying grand prix next year.”

Andrade, Karolyi and the Hollow Creek team will continue to compete in Wellington, FL, before returning to their home base in South Carolina.
