Daniel Geitner and Aviator Take $10,000 Pre-Green Hunter Classic

Mill Spring, NC – July 7, 2016 – Adam Prudent (FRA) and his mount Vasco produced two fast clear rounds with a jump off time of 34.213 seconds to earn themselves the blue ribbon in the $35,000 1.50m Suncast® Welcome CSI 3* at Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC). Trailing closely behind to finish in second place was Amanda Derbyshire (GBR) and Lady Maria BH, stopping the clock in 34.720 seconds. Third place honors were claimed by Todd Minikus (USA) and Vita 24, finishing in 34.823 seconds.

Prudent and Vasco, a 2002 Dutch Warmblood gelding (Andiamo x Clinton), have solidified themselves as a competitive team and have been partnered together for three years. The duo has traveled the world to compete in multiple FEI competitions and spent ample time at the venue throughout the 2015 season. Prudent was thrilled with his win, which he said started off their week on the right foot. With only six out of 41 competitors advancing to the jump off, Prudent spoke about the technicality of the track set by Martin Otto (GER).

“For the second class of the week, it was quite a hard course; however, it was very well built and the fences were inviting, yet technical. Not many made it to the jump off, which attests how tough the track rode,” he detailed.

Prudent was second to last in the jump-off order, which played to his favor as he was able to observe the rounds of other riders before strategizing the win. Vasco is a notoriously fast mount for Prudent and can execute tight turns at blazing speeds during the open gallop portions of the track. Derbyshire, who finished in a close second, nearly took the win, but Prudent felt the extra time observing and preparing ultimately helped him to steal the win.

“I was able to watch Amanda go and she did a six up the first line. I tried to get the six, but I was not able to make that happen, so I settled in and did seven strides,” he explained. “I wasn’t worried because my horse is incredibly fast so I planned on cutting corners to make up for the extra stride.”

“I knew what I had to do today, and I executed the plan,” he added.

Prudent spoke about his growing relationship with Vasco and the strengths that allow them to earn exciting victories, similarly to the one they secured Thursday. He said, “Vasco is not only extraordinarily fast; he is also very careful. In the middle of the course he will open up his stride and allow us to cover an impressive amount of ground.”

Looking forward to the remainder of the week after their win, Prudent and Vasco will be a pair to watch on Saturday, July 9, in the $130,000 Wellington Equestrian Realty Grand Prix CSI 3*. Prudent feels confident that the duo will maintain their consistency, especially coming off of their strong win in such a competitive class early in the week.

Prudent and the Plain Bay Sales team will remain based at TIEC for the remainder of the Tryon Summer Series, contesting their abilities each week in numerous national and international classes.

Prudent touched on the expansion and continual growth occurring at TIEC, stating, “I love Tryon. It gets bigger and bigger and better and better every year! Each time we come back there is something new and I’m already enthusiastic about the new derby field because I really enjoy showing on grass footing.”

Daniel Geitner of Aiken, SC piloted Aviator, owned by Katie Kittrell, to a first place finish in the $10,000 Pre-Green Hunter Classic at Tryon Summer II, besting a class of 10 entries, and securing the victory with a two round score of 163. Geitner and Aviator tied with Josh Dolan of Wellington, FL and Hidden Lane, owned by Page Tredennick, for the highest first round score, as both combinations received an 86 from the judging panel. Geitner made his move for the win in the second round, earning a 77 to solidify the victory. Geitner will return to the hunter ring Friday, July 8, as he will pilot two mounts in the $2,500 USHJA National Derby, which is set to showcase more than 30 entries.

Competition resumes Friday at TIEC with the $2,500 USHJA National Hunter Derby, before international jumper competition returns this weekend. Morris Arena before the popular “Saturday Night Lights” series, which will present the $130,000 Wellington Equestrian Realty Grand Prix CSI 3* beginning at 8:00 p.m. For more information and to see a full list of results, please visit www.tryon.com.

Atlanta Is Hot but Geitner Is on Fire! Wins $25,000 USHJA Int’l Derby

Geitner and True Story.

It may be hot in Atlanta, but Daniel Geitner is on fire! After securing back to back Week I and Week II wins in the $15,000 Horseflight Open Welcomes, he went on to win the $25,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby with Kelly Sims’ True Story last night under the lights in the Olympic Stadium.

Geitner, of Aiken, South Carolina, held the highest score after the Classic Round with a score of 184 and topped the scores of the second round with his own 193 for an overall score of 377. Kelly Farmer with Bibby Hill’s It’s Me held the second highest score behind Geitner and True Story after the first round with their score of 178, but their Handy Round score of 119 for an overall score of 297 would drop them into ninth place overall.

Jennifer Bliss of Wellington, Florida and Harris Hill Farm, LLC’s Poker Face finished their Classic Round with a score of 176. Their Handy score of 186 for an overall 362 secured them second place in the featured hunter event.

Georgia’s own Julie Curtin of Woodstock, in the irons of Helen Brown’s Tybee, secured a first round score of 176. Their Handy round of 186 for a combined 360 took third place honors.

Ava, owned and ridden by Kathryn Jarriel of Collins, Georgia, sat in fifth place after the Handy round after earning a score of 174. Their Handy score of 173 and overall 347 would have them finish in fourth place.

Maida Clifton’s More Optimistic, ridden by Ashley Hotz of Eads, Tennessee, earned a first round score of 172 and a Handy score of 167 for an overall 339, which would see them finish in fifth place overall.

Upcountry Cuba, owned by Jamie Stryker and ridden by Megan Wexler of Reddick, Florida, finished in sixth place overall after earning a first round score of 152 and Handy round score of 170 for an overall 322.

Leslie Terry’s Pet Rock, ridden by Emily Terry Peterson of Naples, Florida, took seventh place honors after earning a Classic round score of 148 and Handy score of 157 for an overall score of 305.

Geitner and Geddaway Farm’s Bella Vida earned a Classic round score of 168 and a Handy score of 133 for an overall 301 which would see them finish in eighth place. Farmer and It’s Me earned ninth place and Jordan Carlson of Roswell, Georgia, in the irons of her own Avignon, placed tenth with an overall score of 293. Eleventh and twelfth placings were awarded to Lisa Chaney’s Cristal, ridden by Brandon Gibson of Greenback, Tennessee, and La Roxx, owned and ridden by Isabel Harbour of Alpharetta, Georgia.

True Story was also awarded the Jack Geitner Memorial trophy, awarded to the winner of the Atlanta Summer Classics International Hunter Derby winner. Especially touching is that the award is named in honor of Daniel Geitner’s brother Jacques “Jack”. An accomplished child rider, he competed in the hunters under the tutelage of trainers such as Pat Dodson and Sue Ashe. As a teen, Jack turned his attention to the jumper ring, and rode his horses Elan and The Energizer to numerous wins, including the Children’s/Adult Jumper Classic at the Charleston Summer Classic Horse Show, with the help of trainer Aaron Vale. He passed away suddenly as a result of a car accident at the age of 19 during his freshman year at Appalachian State University. He will always be remembered for his spirit, laughter and wit and his love for animals and his loyalty to his friends.

Geitner and Creativo Win Week II $15,000 Horseflight Open Welcome

Daniel Geitner and Creativo.

The $15,000 Horseflight Open Welcome took place Thursday and top riders tackled the course set by Olympic Course Designer Steve Stephens of Palmetto, Florida. Daniel Geitner and Lionshare Farm’s Creativo, victors in the Week I $15,000 Horseflight Open Welcome, made their way back to the winner’s circle for the Week II installment after besting a field of fourteen horse and rider teams.

Stephens set the first round with a time allowed of 76 seconds. Only four advanced to the jump off round and Geitner had two of those rides. Geitner was the fourth to go and the first to go clear in a first round time of 72.576 seconds with the Kenwood Syndicate’s Kenwood. Their second round had one rail in a time of 52.134 seconds, but with much of the class yet to go, it was still anyone’s win.

Seven trips later, Jorge Ludwig of Newbury Park, California and his own Lamarique posted the next clear first round in a time of 74.750 seconds. Although their second round was clean, their time of 56.227 resulted in one time fault.

Geitner followed Ludgwig and returned to the Olympic Arena, this time in the irons of Creativo. The pair turned in a clear first round in a time of 74.131 seconds and a fault free second round in a time of 54.140 seconds, setting the new time to beat and taking the lead!

Jared Petersen of Archer, Florida sat in the last to go position in the irons of Derek Petersen’s Titus 2:11. Although they went clear in their first round in a time of 72.073 seconds, their second round had two rails in a time of 53.603 seconds, which would see them finish in fourth overall and clinch the win for Geitner and Creativo.

Ludwig and Lamarique finished in second and Geitner brought home the yellow ribbon with Kenwood.  Fifth place was awarded to the fastest four-faulter from the first round, Derek Petersen of Archer, Florida and his own Diamant’s Legacy, after posting a time of 72.577 seconds. Aaron Vale of Williston, Florida and Amatoville Enterprises’ Carlo placed sixth with their four fault first round in a time of 73.369 seconds, and Kyle Dewar of Ocala, Florida and his own Gomez Van De Withoeve took home the seventh place ribbon after a four fault first round in a time of 74.782 seconds. Haley Waters of Sparr, Florida and Chuck Waters’ Galous placed eighth after earning eight faults in the first round in a time of 72.178 seconds.

Geitner and Creativo Win the $10,000 Horseflight Open Welcome

Daniel Geitner and Creativo.

Creativo, owned by Lionshare Farm and ridden by Daniel Geitner of Aiken, South Carolina, won Thursday’s $10,000 Horseflight Open Welcome besting a field of twenty-five horse and rider teams in the Olympic Grand Prix arena at the Georgia International Horse Park, home of the 1996 Olympics.

Allen Rheinheimer of Zionsville, Indiana, Technical Coordinator for the Classic Company show jumping events and the 2015 World Cup Finals, designed the course. “I built it to 1.40 m and tried to make it inviting so that the horses and riders would feel confident going into the Grand Prix on Saturday night,” commented Rheinheimer.

Rheinheimer set the first round time allowed at 85 seconds and had more than half of the class turn in clear first rounds, advancing to a second round opportunity. The second round was set at 43 seconds and only ten horse and rider teams posted double clear rounds.

Daniel Geitner and The Kenwood Syndicate’s Kenwood were the first to post double clear rounds in times of 77.422 seconds and 33.280 seconds, setting the new time to beat.

Luis Larrazabal of Wellington, Florida, in the irons of San Francisco Stables’ Quintus Fabius, rose to the occasion and beat Geitner and Kenwood’s second round time with their own 32.560 seconds, setting the new time to beat.

Aaron Vale of Williston, Florida and Sarah Turner’s Acolina R were the next horse and rider team to turn in double clear rounds, but their second round time of 34.170 would not be fast enough to take the lead and they would settle in eighth place overall.

Kyle Dewar of Ocala, Florida and his own Gomez Van De Withoeve followed Vale and Acolina R with back to back clear rounds and turned in a second round time of 34.109 seconds, which would find them finishing in seventh place overall.

Luis Muro’s Raino Du Jardin, ridden by Sabischy Hassler of Wellington, Florida, followed in the order with double clear rounds and posted a second round time of 34.205 seconds. The pair earned the ninth place ribbon.

Jordan Coyne of New Port Ritchey, Florida and her own Lazaro posted a clear second round in a time of 31.697, which temporarily took the lead and set the new second round time to beat.

Vale followed Coyne with Amatoville Enterprises’ Carlo and posted a second round time of 31.234 seconds, taking the lead from Coyne and moving her to the third place ribbon.

The heat was on to best Vale and Carlo’s time and Gustavo Prato of Wellington, Florida and Equus Forte, LLC’s Carna Z did just that! They turned in a clear second round in a time of 31.901 seconds, taking the lead and setting the new time to beat. Vale and Carlo would finish in second place overall.

Vale had one more ride to go on Thinks Like a Horse’s Bonzini S. Although they posted double clear rounds, their second round time of 34.452 seconds would find the pair finishing in tenth overall.

Geitner and Lionshare Farm’s Creativo sat in the enviable last to go spot. The pair turned in double clear rounds and a second round time of 30.150 seconds, winning the class!  Carna Z and Prato placed fourth and fifth place was awarded to Quintus Fabius and Larrazabal.  Geitner returned for the sixth place ribbon in the irons of Kenwood.

Lucky Friday the 13th for Geitner and Sky Pilot

Daniel Geitner and Sky Pilot.

Friday the 13th was anything BUT unlucky for Daniel Geitner of Aiken, South Carolina in the irons of Allison Mills’ Sky Pilot who won the $10,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby last night in the Olympic Arena at the Georgia International Horse Park.

Eighteen horse and rider teams took to the hunt on a beautiful course under the lights designed by Joe Carnicum.

After the first round, Tim Maddrix of Birmingham, Alabama sat in the lead with Missy Nolan’s Special and a combined first round score of 176. Geitner and Sky Pilot were right behind Special and Maddrix with a combined first round score of 174. LPF Woodford, owned by LPF, LLC and ridden by Parker Wright, finished their first round on the heels of Sky Pilot and earned a combined first round score of 172.

The Handy round proved to be challenging and significantly reshuffled the final standings.

Kalifornia, owned and ridden by Heather Zuber of Zionsville, Indiana, was first to go in the Handy round and earned a score of 84. Combined with their first round score of 146, the pair would finish in eleventh place overall.

Maddrix and Alina Dumitrescu’s Shutterbug earned a second round score of 115 and, combined with their first round score of 148, would finish in ninth place overall.

Casanova, owned by Ruth Bley and ridden by Elizabeth Boyd of Camden, South Carolina, followed Shutterbug and Maddrix in the Handy Round and earned a score of 144. Combined with their first round score of 159, the pair would move up to finish in sixth place overall.

North C, owned and ridden by Jaime Steinhaus of Milton, Georgia, earned a score of 154 in their Handy Round and, combined with their first round score of 159, moved up to finish in fourth place overall.

Player, owned by Jeanne Pitre and ridden by Thomas Le Blanc of Folsom, Louisiana, followed in the Handy order and earned a score of 97. Combined with their first round score of 160, the pair finished in tenth place overall.

Ricardo, owned and ridden by Audrey Muscari of Germantown, Tennessee, earned a second round score of 189. Combined with their first round score of 161, the pair would move to second place.

Kathryn Jarriel of Collins, Georgia, aboard her own Ava, followed Muscari and Ricardo in the order and earned a second round score of 148. Combined with their first round score of 162, the pair finished in fifth place overall.

Brandon Gibson of Greenback, Tennessee and Select Sport Horses’ Jus D’O earned 183 points in their Handy Round. When combined with their first round score of 166, the pair would move to third place overall.

Steeple Chase Farm, Inc.’s Lucretia, ridden by Taylor Adams of Memphis, Florida, earned a first round score of 167. Combined with their Handy Round score of 75, they would find themselves finishing in eleventh place overall.

Wright and Woodward LPF sat in third position after the first round. However, their Handy Round earned them a score of 116 and they finished in eighth place overall.

Sky Pilot and Geitner were next to go and their second round score of 196 was enough to move them temporarily into first place ahead of Maddrix and Special, with the first round leaders on deck.

Maddrix and Special were the last to go and looked to hold onto their lead. However, their second round score of 119 would find them dropping to seventh place overall and crowning Geitner and Sky Pilot the champions.

September 11th, 2012 – Week one of the 2012 Aiken Fall Festival Show series came to a close on Sunday and what a busy week it was. The event in its 5th year took place at Highfields in historic Aiken, SC and is managed by locally based Equus Events, Inc. and show manager J. P. Godard.

The week kicked off on Thursday with plenty of action in both the hunter and jumper rings. The featured class was the $5,000 Open Welcome Stake which took place Thursday afternoon out on the grass field. Hollow Creek Investment’s Boccaccio and rider Angel Karolyi took top honors there with a jump off time of 37.793 just edging out another Aiken based rider Daniel Geitner and Ann Ritter’s Jumbo Jet who finished clean with a time of 37.890. Boccaccio, an 11 year old Belgian Warmblood gelding by Up Chiqui, has had much success with Karolyi winning the $25,000 Equestrian Sport Productions New Year’s Grand Prix in Wellington as well as placing 9th in the $75,000 Nations Cup this winter. Carboni, owned by the Hollow Creek Farm, took home third place with rider Angel Karolyi handling the ride there as well. Following the class, the Aiken Fall Festival Welcome Party took place at The Stables Restaurant at Rose Hill. Exhibitors and sponsors were treated to food and drinks as well as live music by local artist Gavin Reily. Many thanks to The Stables Restaurant for sponsoring the Aiken Fall Festival Welcome Party for the second year in a row. The restaurant features a dining room and bar menu, live music on the patio every Friday, and a full bar all in one of Aiken’s most unique settings. Located just minutes from Highfields accommodations are also available www.rosehillestate.com.

March, 13th, 2012 – This May the Georgia International Horse Park will once again play host to the Atlanta Spring Challenge Horse Show.  Produced by Aiken, SC based J. P. Godard and Equus Events, the show offers a fitting end to the spring season and a perfect stop for those on their way to Devon.  The show now in its 9th year has become a favorite of those attending events at the Horse Park which was site of the equestrian portion of the 1996 Olympic Games.

“We have added new classes and special events each year,” said show organizer J. P. Godard.  The show started out a single “A” rated horse show in 2004 and has now grown to a five day “AA” rated event that attracts some of top hunter and jumper riders throughout the country.  In today’s economy it takes a lot more than the average horse show to survive and to actually grow throughout the last 8 years is a major feat in itself.  Godard believes this consistent growth can be attributed to Equus Events and its staff striving to offer more than just the average horse show.
