Friday Is Barns’ Night Out at the Alltech National Horse Show

Jacob Pope (pictured with Uno), of Columbia, MD, won the 2012 ASPCA Maclay National Championships.

[LEXINGTON, Ky.] – Horse-crazy kids will put the horses out to pasture and pull on their party boots for Alltech’s Barn Night in the Bluegrass, presented by Group C, at the Alltech National Horse Show. During this barn bazaar on Friday, Nov. 1, youth from around the region are invited to meet with all-star equestrians and show true “barn spirit” for a chance to win prizes in the Alltech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park.

Open to young riders, equestrian groups and kids who simply love horses, Barn Night in the Bluegrass encourages youth to make banners, dress in horse gear and wear their barn’s logo to participate in spirit competitions held during the evening’s events. Spirit prizes awarded to Barn Night participants throughout the night will include year-long subscriptions to Sidelines magazine, official merchandise of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2014 in Normandy, a year’s supply of LIFEFORCE Elite natural digestive supplement and a Lyons Farm barn grill-out package sponsored by Alltech. The most spirited barn or equestrian group will win a golf cart for their facility. One super-spirited Barn Night participant will win a trip for four to attend the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2014 in Normandy, France.

Barn Night in the Bluegrass participants will be grouped in a premier seating section of the Alltech Arena while world-class equestrians aim for record heights during Friday’s LIFEFORCE Elite Puissance competition. All Barn Night participants will receive a complimentary gift bag supported by Sidelines magazine and the Kentucky Horse Council. When the class has ended, youth will be invited into the ring for autographs and pictures with elite equestrians competing at the Alltech National Horse Show.

In addition to the equestrian action, Barn Night youth and their families can enjoy activities that are part of Alltech’s first-ever Kentucky Gathering, including novelty shopping venues, a showcase of local foods and craft brews, and a photo opportunity with the new Alltech National Horse Show mascot. Local band Girls Guns and Glory will amp up the spirit with live music throughout Barn Night.

Alltech’s Barn Night in the Bluegrass is presented by Group C with support from Sidelines magazine and the Kentucky Horse Council. In the weeks leading up to the Alltech National Horse Show, Alltech representatives will visit local equestrian groups to drop off a “Barn Bucket” containing a set of free tickets to Friday night of the Alltech National Horse Show. If your equestrian group or facility would like to request a “Barn Bucket,” please contact Chelsea Magee at cmagee@alltech.com.

Registration for Barn Night is free and required for participants to be eligible for prizes. To register, e-mail the names of participants and their equestrian facility of affiliation, if applicable, to Chelsea Magee at cmagee@alltech.com. Registration is also available at www.alltechnationalhorseshow.com/event-information/barn-night-in-the-bluegrass/.

Kentuckians will gather this fall to celebrate three proud traditions deeply rooted in the Bluegrass state – horses, heritage and hops. Alltech will host the first-ever Kentucky Gathering, Oct. 29-Nov.3, at the Alltech Arena on the grounds of the Kentucky Horse Park. This week-long festival includes the world-class equestrian sport of the Alltech National Horse Show, the Biggest Loser 5k RunWalk, a Taste Kentucky showcase featuring locally crafted brews and foods, and many other fun-filled activities for the entire family.

An American equestrian tradition, the Alltech National Horse Show, Oct. 29-Nov.3, has reached its stride in the Alltech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park. Reserved for the year’s top talent on the North American show circuit, the Alltech National Horse Show opens the ring to a variety of equestrian classes and disciplines, with events including the $250,000 Alltech Grand Prix, the $50,000 LIFEFORCE Elite Puissance and the ASPCA Alfred B. Maclay Finals for youth competitors. For more information, visit www.alltechnationalhorseshow.com.

“The Taylor Harris Club is a sensational oasis for our patrons and the THIS Saturday night party is always the talk of the show,” said Mason Phelps, Jr. the President of the National Horse Show Association. “We are extremely grateful for the continuing and very generous commitment of Michael Taylor and Bill Weeks and the entire staff at Taylor Harris. We are thrilled they are back with us for the 2013 edition.”

“There are many reasons why I love this horse show, but first and foremost, I think it is how beautifully it is presented by the National Horse Show and Alltech, at a venue specifically designed for such an event,” Taylor continued. “Secondly, it showcases a very exciting festival of equestrian sport featuring many of the top riders in the world, competing for some big prize money. This is always going to be exciting to watch and the best place to do THIS is in the Taylor Harris Club which is perfectly located for the best view of the action,” he said.

In addition to sponsoring the fashionable and popular dining and seating area for table patrons, Taylor Harris will once again be the Official Insurance Agency for the event. In addition, they will return as the presenting sponsors of the popular Saturday night party at Gracie Street Garden.

Taylor Harris Insurance Services (THIS) was founded in 1987 to provide specialized insurance for all types of equine risk.

American Saddlebreds and Hackneys to Add Excitement to the Alltech National Horse Show

Lexington, Ky. – August 15, 2013 – The Alltech National Horse Show returns to the Alltech Arena in Lexington, KY, Oct. 29 – Nov. 3, 2013.  Again this year, the show will feature an American Saddlebred Division and, new this year, the Hackney Division. Get ready to whoop and holler for the animated and electric Five-Gaited, Three-Gaited, Fine Harness, Park Horse, American Saddlebred Pleasure Horse, Roadster and Hackney Harness divisions and championships.

“We couldn’t be more pleased to have the Saddlebreds and Hackneys back for high-stepping action at the Alltech National Horse Show,” said National Horse Show Association President Mason Phelps, Jr.

“We are recreating the amazing excitement of the days of the National in New York. Part of the magic in those days was the variety of show jumping and the Saddlebreds, all at one show.”

The American Saddlebred and Hackney classes were a highlight of the National Horse Show in its Madison Square Garden days. Now that the Alltech National Horse Show is in Kentucky, a hub of some of the country’s best American Saddlebred operations, it is only fitting that the competition return to the iconic show. In addition to excellent prize money, many of the legendary and beautiful old trophies from the days of the National Horse Show in New York will be up for grabs again for the Saddlebreds and Hackneys at this year’s Alltech National Horse Show.

According to Andrea Walton, a former winner of the prestigious Good Hands Saddlebred Equitation Class at the National Horse Show, “When the notable trainer, Helen Crabtree, moved her farm to Simpsonville, Ky., everyone thought she had moved to the middle of nowhere. Today, many of the finest trainers in the country are in Simpsonville and the surrounding areas.”

“The Saddlebreds bring some fun and excitement and some entertainment,” said last year’s $1000 Park Horse Amateur Stake and the $1500 Park Horse Championship winner, David Rudder with Phind the Treasure. “I remember when I was a kid at the Garden – that was always special. We are so happy to have Saddlebreds back in the Alltech National Horse Show.”

“It was a pleasure for us to come to this USEF horse show and participate with the other Saddlebreds and the jumpers,” said Gabe Deknatel, whose spectacular five-gaited horse, CH The Daily Lottery, was nominated for USEF Horse of the Year in 2012 and won the $1,500 Five-Gaited Amateur Championship at the Alltech National Horse Show. “We really enjoyed watching the jumpers. It was a great way to end the year.”

The Biggest Loser RunWalk to Host 5k/15k at Kentucky Horse Park

Dan and Jackie Evans, organizers of The Biggest Loser RunWalk, were in Lexington, Kentucky to promote their upcoming event during the Alltech National Horse Show.

Race to be part of the Alltech National Horse Show

Lexington, KY – July 26, 2013 – Saddle up for The Biggest Loser RunWalk, a 5k race, 15k race and one-mile Kids’ Run Fun part of Family Fun Day festivities during the Alltech National Horse Show, held at the Alltech Arena on the grounds of the Kentucky Horse Park on Nov. 2, 2013. From the first-time walker to the avid runner, participants are encouraged to get off the couch and hit the gravel in the Bluegrass state. The Biggest Loser RunWalk is licensed through the NBCUniversal Television Consumer Products Group and Shine America.

The Biggest Loser RunWalk is happy to be working with The Bluegrass Sports Commission and the Alltech National Horse Show to bring the race to Lexington. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 66.2 percent of adults were overweight in the state of Kentucky in 2010, and only 21.4 percent of these adults were physically active for a total of at least 60 minutes per day. These figures are a statistic Kentucky has been working hard to change.

“The Bluegrass Sports Commission is excited about bringing the Biggest Loser RunWalk Race Series to central Kentucky,” said Terry Johnson, executive director of the Commission. “Not only will it be a terrific addition to our sports calendar, but partnering with Alltech and The Biggest Loser in the fight against obesity in Kentucky also contributes to the quality of life of our region.”

The race will be held at 9 a.m. at the Alltech Arena, 4089 Iron Works Parkway, Lexington, Ky., rain or shine. The 5k and 15k are chip-timed for participants tracking personal goals with special awards given to the top runners and walkers. This event will also include a kids’ one-mile fun run for ages 4-12 taking off at noon. Dan and Jackie Evans, organizers of The Biggest Loser RunWalk and season 5 contestants, offer the RunWalk as a non-intimidating environment for all participants, with a longer course time limit to complete the race.

After the race, participants, family and friends can celebrate and relax at the post-race concert featuring former “The Biggest Loser” contestant and Nashville recording artist, Dan Evans.

On Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, participants and the community can get inspired for the next day’s race at the Health & Wellness Meet and Greet at the Alltech Arena. While there, participants will be able to pick up their race information, enjoy a variety of entertainment inside the Alltech Arena, take advantage of workshops from past Biggest Loser contestants, take part in The Biggest Loser Q&A and much more.

This race will take place as part of a week-long line-up of community activities surrounding the Alltech National Horse Show, America’s oldest and most prestigious indoor horse show, held from Oct.29 – Nov. 3. With race registration, entire families will receive free admission to Saturday Family Fun Day at the Alltech Arena. Other family friendly activities throughout the week include boutique shopping around the arena, a free indoor Halloween trick-or-treat with live cartoon characters on Oct. 31 and the first-ever Barn Night where equestrian youth and horse crazy kids can meet with their favorite equestrians on Nov. 1. For more information about the Alltech National Horse Show, visit www.alltechnationalhorseshow.com.

All registered participants of the RunWalk will receive a free daytime entry into the show at packet pick up. For more information on The Biggest Loser RunWalk or to register for a race, please visit www.BiggestLoser.com/RunWalk.

Alltech National Horse Show Named a USEF Heritage Competition

Lexington, KY – July 24, 2013 – The Alltech National Horse Show announced today that it has been named an official USEF Heritage Competition. The legendary show made the successful move to its new home in Lexington, Kentucky in 2011. During the debut season at the Kentucky Horse Park, the show was named as the National Show Hunter Hall of Fame’s Horse Show of the Year and was ranked as the nation’s top show by the North American Riders Group (NARG).

Founded in 1883 at the original Madison Square Garden, the National Horse Show is America’s oldest indoor horse show, firmly established as a major fixture on the national and international sports and social event calendars.

The designation of a USEF Heritage Competition is reserved for competitions that have been established for a long period of time and have made substantial contribution toward the development and promotion of the sport, both within the broader community, by achieving, maintaining and promoting the equestrian ideals of the sportsmanship and competition.

Eligibility for the Heritage designation requires a minimum of 25 consecutive years of operation excluding any Act of God interruption and application by the Competition Licensee. In addition, the Competition must be in good standing with both USEF and the representing affiliate. The event must show significant involvement and support from the community where the competition is held and significant contribution to promotion of the sport of equestrian. Also, the show must be widely recognized within the sport of equestrian as being a Regional, National or International level of competition, or possessing other characteristics that make it unique within the sport of equestrian.

“On behalf of the United States Equestrian Federation, I would like to congratulate the Alltech National Horse Show,” said USEF President Chrystine Tauber. “This show has been a part of the fabric of the American showing scene for more than a century.  The longevity, dedication to philanthropic efforts, and impact on the community, makes this competition a perfect example of what we look for when designating USEF Heritage Competitions.”

“Speaking for Alltech, the Board of Directors and all of our staff and management here at the Alltech National Horse Show, I’ve got to tell you how honored we are to receive this designation from our federation,” said Mason Phelps, Jr. the President of the National Horse Show Association. “With the unparalleled history and legacy of this great event, I can’t think of a horse show in this nation that is more deserving of the Heritage Competition designation.”

Bill Maroney, the President of the United States Hunter Jumper Association, commented on the designation. “The National Horse Show well deserves the USEF Heritage Competition designation. Longevity, community and excellence are synonymous with the National. Congratulations on receiving this recognition,” he said.

“We are extremely proud of the 130 years of commitment to providing a great competition in a world-class atmosphere,” Phelps went on to say. “We’re also proud of the service to our many wonderful charities and to the ASPCA in particular as the hosts of the ASPCA Maclay National Championship.”

The Alltech National Horse Show joins an impressive list of competitions with the Heritage Competition designation 2013 Heritage Competitions. That list includes the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show, the Devon Horse Show, Upperville, Waterloo, Fairfield, Warrenton, the Hampton Classic and others.

The Alltech National Horse Show returns to the Alltech Arena in Lexington, Kentucky, on October 29 through November 3, 2013.
