Alltech National Horse Welcomes Sasco Creek Farm and Weeks Family as $50,000 Welcome Speed Sponsor

Lexington, KY – August 29, 2011 – The Alltech National Horse Show, 128th edition, announced today that Sasco Creek Farm and the Weeks family have graciously agreed to join forces with this year’s event as sponsors of the $50,000 Sasco Farm Welcome Speed Stake, presented by Mr. & Mrs. William H. Weeks and family.

The Alltech National Horse Show CSI-W 4* will be staged at the Alltech Arena at the world-renowned Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky, site of last year’s Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.

The $50,000 Sasco Creek Farm Welcome Speed Stake is the first class in an Open Jumper division that features fabulous prize money for the inaugural event, including the Saturday night main event, the $250,000 Alltech National Horse Shoe Grand Prix.

As owner Bill Weeks points out, Sasco Creek Farm, located in Connecticut and also in Wellington, Florida, was purchased as the home base for his family of equestrian competitors, daughters Alexa and Whitney and wife, Olivia Weeks. “We built the barn for the girls so they could learn to take care of their own horses and train at home,” he said. “My wife and daughters grew up riding and over time I also fell in love with the sport.”

Get a Leg Up on the Alltech National Horse Show

[Lexington, KY] – With the historic Alltech National Horse Show preparing for its Lexington debut this fall, horse enthusiasts and members of the community are invited to attend an informational program about the show and the experiences that will be available to spectators during the five-day event.

Free and open to the public, Alltech’s popular Equine News and Brews program will be held August 25 at Alltech’s Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company in downtown Lexington.

“The Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games were transformational for Lexington and for the Commonwealth of Kentucky,” said Dr. Pearse Lyons, president and founder of Alltech, the first-ever title sponsor of the Games and of the National Horse Show.  “Opportunity once again literally landed in our backyard with the National Horse Show.”

“As with the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in 2010, we are eager to help people understand and enjoy this year’s highly acclaimed equestrian competition, along with experiencing the many exhibits and demonstrations on the show grounds for the entire family.”

The 2011 Equine News and Brews program, he added, is designed to “build on the spirit of the Alltech FEI Games by providing a forum for all those who share a love of the horse.  The open, casual dialogue encouraged at Equine News and Brews is meant to serve as a catalyst in fostering local involvement and interest in the equine industry.”

Alltech National Horse Show Finds a Home at the Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky

After a hundred plus year run in the heart of New York City at Madison Square Garden, the nation’s oldest indoor horse show has been somewhat nomadic for the past decade, having landed on the Piers in New York for two unsuccessful seasons following the departure from Madison Square Garden, and then stopping in Wellington, Florida, for four years before finally landing in Syracuse, NY, four years ago.

Then, after numerous complaints by a large segment of the National Horse Show exhibitor base, Mason Phelps, Jr., along with the progressive thinking members of the Board of Directors of the National Horse Show, spearheaded the drive to finally give this national equestrian treasure a permanent home. The site they chose was the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky.

“It was the logical and perfect place for the National,” Phelps said. “It’s quite simply one of the outstanding venues in the entire world. Also, the excellent management infrastructure that Hugh Kincannon has had in place for years makes this a seamless transition,” he noted.

The Alltech National Horse Show, 128th Edition, will be held from November 2-6, 2011, at the beautiful, new Alltech Indoor Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.

“I speak on behalf of the entire Kentucky Horse Park in saying that we are honored to be chosen as the venue of the Alltech National Horse Show and it is our sincere wish that it will be a long and happy association,” said John Nicholson, Executive Director of the Kentucky Horse Park.

Dr. Lyons, the President and Founder of Alltech, presides over a company that has become one of the most important and generous sponsors for equestrian events worldwide.

“That’s why we asked them to become our Honorary Chairpersons,” said National Horse Show of America, Ltd President, Mason Phelps, Jr. “We wanted to honor Dr. and Mrs. Lyons because of their commitment, not only to this show, but their contribution to the industry all over the world. Without them the Alltech National Horse Show would certainly still be a storied tradition, but the new beginning would not have been possible without the commitment of Alltech.”

“Deirdre and I are touched by this honor and delighted to have this opportunity to bring enthusiastic support to the Alltech National Horse Show,” said Dr. Pearse Lyons, Alltech’s president and founder.  “The show is an institution in the equestrian world, and we are pleased to be a part of preserving its legacy.”

Earlier this year Dr. Lyons was honored with the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce’s Commonwealth Legacy Award for his pivotal leadership role in the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Lexington, which were recently shown to have had a $201.5 million economic impact on the state of Kentucky.
