Aaron Vale Proves Victorious throughout Open Jumpers for Second Day of Tampa Bay Classic

Tampa, FL – March 28, 2013 – The course was the talk of the day today at the Tampa Bay Classic, as each consecutive rider was faced with a technical track that tested the best of their abilities. Riders gathered at the Covered Arena early this morning, and the cold weather only added to the mounting anticipation as some of the nation’s top riders took their turn at the technical track in the Open Jumper classes at the Bob Thomas Equestrian Center at the Florida State Fairgrounds. Aaron Vale was one of the few riders to master the track, tackling the course with each of his mounts and taking away the victory in the 1.35m and 1.40m competitions.

Michel Vaillancourt of Canada was the course designer for today’s events in the Covered Arena, and he tested riders with a liverpool, vertical-oxer-vertical triple combination and an oxer-vertical double combination. The 1.35m and 1.40m riders were then asked to continue into the jump-off where they would be challenged by a number of tough rollbacks, tight inside turns and a snug time allowed as they took their turn at the short course. The track consisted of six obstacles including the opening oxer leading to fence two, a blue-and-white vertical, a tight left turn to the outside oxer where riders then had to quickly make a hard left rollback to take a skinny vertical, go through the double combination and finish over the liverpool set on the diagonal.

During the 1.40m Open Jumpers, only three riders were able to master the first course without fault. Aaron Vale and Palm Sunday, owned by Amen Corner Farm, were the first to continue into the speed round, accruing nine time faults in their attempt to control the course, and put accuracy above the risk of speed. They finished in a time of 53.842 seconds.

Greg Crolick and Landino were also up for the morning’s challenge. They easily navigated the first round, and moved into the jump-off where they met their four-fault score at fence 13. Although they kept to a speedy plan, a slow rollback put them over the 45 seconds time allowed. They ended with a total of two time faults, and combined with their prior four faults, eventually took the second place.

It was Vale who returned with a vengeance aboard Kryptonite, owned by Thinks Like a Horse of Morriston, FL, opting to take all inside turns and speedy rollbacks. Taking a chance, he sped around the course in 42.398 seconds, earning four faults in the jump-off, but sealing the victory.

“Kryptonite is a horse my wife has shown in the amateur jumpers for a year or two, and I took him over for a little while. He did a great job in Ocala, and we are working to further his education a little bit. He will probably go tomorrow evening, and Sunday, as well,” Vale described. “He is a very hot horse, and we are trying to figure out exactly what he needs. Sometime he gets a little wound up and loses focus, but he is starting to come around and become more consistent.”

Shortly after taking the blue in the 1.40m Open Jumpers, Vale rode Spray Tan, owned by Thinks Like a Horse, to the victory in the 1.35m Open Jumpers. He was the only rider to post a double-clear effort. Although Erin Haas and Casino van de Helle, owned by North Face Farm of Chelsea, MI, faced off against the eventual victors, two time faults stood in their way of the blue. Vale left all rails intact and crossed the finish in 42.902 seconds, well within the time allowed.

“He is a newer horse for us, and Mallory showed him in Ocala, and won some classes and had some good placings in some of the classes there. He was a little spooky in this ring yesterday, so I got on him to help knock some of the cobwebs out and get him going. He is a super horse, but then again, he is new for us, so we are getting to know him.”

Concluding the Open Jumpers today was the 1.30m Open Jumpers. The course changed as Vallaincourt continued to lay down a technical track. The class saw fierce competition as riders battled for the top slot. It was Vale who once again showed to the top of the leader board, this time with Zadermus, owned by Dasilva Investments of Ann Arbor, MI. The competitive duo was the last to attempt the course, and after leaving all the rails in their cups, they sped to the victory in the jump-off. Only three riders were able to move into the demanding short course, and none went without faults. Vale rode Zadermus to the fastest time, 29.181 seconds, finding fault at the second obstacle, a red-and-white skinny.

“He is a very quick horse, and he is quite young, too. He still needs mileage and all that. I am working on getting him in the ring,” Vale explained. “He has been doing a great job, and I am very happy with how far he has come along.”

Michael Hughes and Zammetje, owned by Christina Fried of New York, NY, posted a speedy time of 32.030 seconds, but when the final fence fell, they sealed their second place position. Deborah Connor and Jedi Warrior, owned by DC Sales & Entertainment, LLC of Reddick, FL, rode to the third place finish with four faults and a time of 36.969.

“I have been riding him for three years now, but he has really come so far since we bought him,” Michael Hughes explained. “The course was a little more technical than what they have been. We used today’s 1.30m as a schooling round, and we will be showing in the High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumpers for the remainder of our time in Tampa. We are planning on doing the Welcome Stake tomorrow evening, too. He doesn’t have the biggest stride, but no matter where you put him, he always has enough jump to get out of it, I’m really happy with how far we have come.”

“This is my first year coming here; it is very laid back, and not nearly has hectic as the other shows,” Hughes concluded. “It is very exhibitor friendly, and offers a great change of venue.”

The first week of the Tampa Bay Classic holds numerous highlights for the jumpers. Tomorrow will introduce the Junior and Amateur-Owner Jumper divisions, seeing riders vie for the championship. Tomorrow night will feature the $32,000 Tampa Bay Welcome Stake beginning at 5 pm with the Welcome Party Cookout.

Aaron Vale Takes Home First and Fourth-Place Ribbons in $25,000 SmartPak Grand Prix at HITS Ocala

OCALA, FL (March 15, 2013) – As the last week of HITS Ocala turns on the warm weather for a spectacular finale, Aaron Vale got the excitement started early on with a win in Thursday’s $25,000 SmartPak Grand Prix, presented by Zoetis, aboard Zippo II, owned by 2VR Showjumpers.

Forty-one horse-and-rider combinations made up the starting list on Thursday, as riders got a preview of the design style of Florencio Hernandez of Mexico City, Mexico. Hernandez will also set Sunday’s $100,000 Sullivan GMC Truck Grand Prix, presented by Great American Insurance Group. Vale rode two mounts to the ribbons in a ten-trip jump-off. He was also fourth aboard Palm Sunday, owned by Amen Corner Farm, the horse he rode to two consecutive grand prix wins during the first week Of the HITS Ocala Winter Circuit.

First to produce a double-clear effort and set the Great American Time to Beat was last Sunday’s winner, Lisa Goldman of Hawthorn Woods, Illinois aboard Mary Goldman’s Centurion B. Goldman’s season, her first at HITS Ocala, has been nothing short of superb with three grand prix win and several more top-five finishes.  She set the pace at 37.49 seconds and eventually finished in third place.

The lead would quickly change hands as Vale and Zippo II entered the ring next and shaved nearly a full second off the clock in 36.81 seconds. Vale is no stranger to success during the final week of HITS Ocala and has his sights set on Sunday’s $100,000 grand prix. Having won the title three times before, and finishing in second place last year, Vale clearly means business again this year.

Tracy Fenney of Flower Mound, Texas and MTM Farm’s MTM Centano finished the jump-off in 37.24 seconds to take second place. Also no stranger to victory in the $100,000 Grand Prix of Ocala, she and her two grand prix mounts – MTM Centano and MTM Timon – are also eager to claim top honors on Sunday.

Rounding out the top five was New Jersey’s Amanda Flint on The Coverboy Group’s Superbad. Flint crossed the timers in 39.53 seconds with no faults.

Kyle Dewar and his own Alma finished in second place, while Harold Chopping and Kendra Bullington’s Patent Pending were third.

Aaron Vale Goes Two-for-Two during Week I of HITS Ocala

©ESI Photography. Aaron Vale and Palm Sunday were two-for-two during the first week of competition at HITS Ocala and capped their streak with a win in the $50,000 HITS Grand Prix.

OCALA, FL (January 21, 2013) – Week I of the 2013 HITS Ocala Winter Circuit is in the history books with Aaron Vale leading the way. After a win last Thursday in the $25,000 SmartPak Grand Prix, presented by Pfizer Animal Health, aboard Palm Sunday, owned by Amen Corner Farm, LLC, the duo kept the momentum by clinching the biggest purse of the week in the $50,000 HITS Grand Prix, presented by Pfizer Animal Health.

Vale, of Morriston, Florida showed three horses in Sunday’s class that featured 24 in the order. The time was tight on Jack Robson’s course, who allowed 84 seconds to complete the 17-effort first round. Vale was one of nine competitors to feel the pressure of the clock after suffering one time fault on his first mount. He and Palm Sunday, however, were able to barely squeak by in 83.50 seconds.

“The time was pretty tight today,” Vale said. “I was just barely over the time on my first horse who is pretty fast. A lot of people had trouble with it today – it wasn’t easy and I think trying to make it under the time allowed caused a lot of rails. It was certainly difficult enough for this early in the season.”

Vale and Fenney Ride for the Upper Hand during First Day at HITS Ocala

©ESI Photography. Aaron Vale traded the lead with Tracy Fenney several times during today’s $25,000 SmartPak Grand Prix.

OCALA, FL (January 17, 2013) – The first grand prix of the season at HITS Ocala took place this afternoon as Aaron Vale of Morriston, FL and Flower Mound, TX’s Tracy Fenney put on quite a show during the $25,000 SmartPak Grand Prix, presented by Pfizer Animal Health. It was Vale who piloted Amen Corner Farm, LLC’s Palm Sunday to the winner’s circle for their first victory of the season.

Vale, a native of Dallas, Texas, committed SmartPak user and HITS Ocala regular, showed three horses in today’s class and made it to the 14-horse jump-off with all of them. It was Palm Sunday, however, who was able to execute a tricky inside turn to the second fence in the jump-off, a skinny vertical next to the water.

“There were plenty of distractions and reasons why that turn wasn’t attractive, but if we had any chance of beating Tracy, that was going to be where it would happen,” said Vale.

And happen it did as Vale posted the winning time of 36.18 seconds. Fenney and MTM Farm’s MTM Timon were just fractions behind, but settled for second in 36.66 seconds.

Vale Edges Out Welles for the Win in the $30,000 Russell Fortune Memorial Grand Prix at Traders Point Hunt Charity Horse Show

Andrew Welles and Tornado

Zionsville, IN – August 10, 2012 – The 2012 Traders Point Hunt Charity Horse Show and Country Fair continued on Friday with cooler weather and a momentary, passing shower. The horses were feeling fresh and ready for competition at Wild Air Farms in Zionsville, IN.

Exhibitors and guests enjoyed the annual Paws to Applause dog show mid-day and exciting show jumping action in the jumper arena and the Russell Fortune Arena all day long. The coveted $30,000 Mr. and Mrs. Russell Fortune Jr. Memorial Grand Prix, held at 5:00 p.m. was the highlight of the day and filled the tents around the grass arena with cheering crowds.

“We’ve got a pretty good field tonight, we have faces – plenty of folks who are ready,” said course designer, Phil DeVita. “The course this afternoon is along the same theme that we’ve been doing all week.”

“I’m kind of a serpentine guy,” continued DeVita. “I don’t do a lot of technical straight-line distances. I tend to keep turning you and bending you and making you steer and make you stay in control.

Vale Is Victorious in Phase Two of the Zone 5 Open Jumper Championship at Traders Point

Zionsville, IN – August 9, 2012 – Much-needed rain came to the Zionsville, IN, area on Thursday and added a few puddles and a few delays but did not detract from the festivities and competition at the 2012 Traders Point Hunt Charity Horse Show and Country Fair at picturesque Wild Air Farms in Zionsville, IN. Guests and exhibitors enjoyed live music on the grounds wafting from the annual Charity Garden Party.

Course designer, Phil DeVita, built a technical track in the Russell Fortune Grand Prix Arena adding more combinations and tricky turns, presenting the rider and horse teams with interesting questions to answer and determining whether they could deliver fast times and clear rounds.

The course for Phase Two of the Zone 5 Open Jumper Championship got underway on the far end of the arena with a single oxer on the diagonal headed toward home. The track took an immediate right turn around to the far end of the ring to a single vertical then an immediate right turn to an oxer-to-vertical combination and a long bending gallop to a single oxer, then left bending line to a vertical, landing very close to the rail across from the jumper tower. The course turned to the left and continued on the diagonal to a vertical-vertical combination and a left bending line to an oxer. Next was a turn to the right to a liverpool, a rollback to the right to an oxer and a bending line to a vertical-oxer combination. A left past the in-gate led to the final fence, an oxer.

Aaron Vale and Tibor Take $40,000 Kentucky Summer Grand Prix Victory

Aaron Vale and Tibor won the $40,000 Kentucky Summer Grand Prix with a blazing speed, defeating Pablo Barrios for the winning title. Photo By: Kendall Bierer/PMG

Lexington KY – July 28, 2012 – The Rolex Stadium was alive with excitement as 34 entrants competed in the $40,000 Kentucky Summer Grand Prix at the Kentucky Summer Horse Show. It turned into a nail-biter as five competitors progressed into the jump-off with a clear first round effort. Trailblazer Pablo Barrios aboard Zara Leandra was the first to post a double-clear effort tonight, and it seemed as though no one would be able to best the talented team. It wasn’t until Aaron Vale and Tibor took their turn at the short course that the anticipation became contagious, with the crowd holding their breath as they watched his tight turns and speedy delivery. His time of 41.889 seconds took the duo to the top of tonight’s leader board and the winning title.

Brazil’s Marina Azevedo designed tonight’s course, using obstacles such as a vertical-vertical-oxer triple combination, standalone verticals, bending lines, an oxer-vertical double combination, a triple bar, rollbacks and tight turns. The jump-off allowed 52 seconds for horse and rider to trip the timer, utilizing tight turns and long distances to direct them to the finish. Starting over the first vertical and making a left rollback to a grey oxer, riders moved forward over a single vertical toward the oxer-vertical combination. Upon landing they were required to make a tight right turn to a vertical, and then move toward the timers over the oxer-vertical line with the seconds accumulating and their speed progressing with every stride.
