The French team was unbeatable in the Nations Cup competition at the LOTTO Strzegom Horse Trials. Second place went to team Great Britain; Italy finished on third.

In the showjumping trial the Polish team had a few mistakes, which led to them falling from the third position that they had after the cross country, to fourth position. The best polish athlete of the team was Mateusz Kiempa, who after two knockdowns has finished on the 11th position individually.

“I had two mistakes in the showjumping – one was because we had a tight distance in the combination. My horse is quite big and he lands far after the jump, but I’m very pleased, because the course was really demanding; not a lot of horses have finished it clear.”

Great dressage tests, clear rounds of Christopher Six with Totem de Brecey and Francois Lemiere with Ogustin du Terroir at the showjumping, and a good cross country test of Maxime Livio aboard Opium de Verrieres made it possible for the French team to take home the cup for the first place in the Nations Cup.

“We did a good job with the team – two of us were clear. Yesterday the cross was quite hard, but our three horses were clear, and mine was very close to the time. We came here to try to win the Nations Cup and we did, so we are very happy,” said Maxime Livio.

The individual ranking proved Yoshiaki Oiwa (JPN) the best of them all: after clear rounds in both the cross country and showjumping trials, he won the CI-short 3* with Calle 44.

“I’m very happy and very lucky to have this horse; he is a super jumper. He is a really careful horse; he jumped really well today, and I’m pleased with him”

Frenchman Christopher Six has moved up from the fifth place to finish as second, and William Oakden (GBR) finished third with Cooley Ramiro.

7 nations have competed in the Nations Cup altogether.

The Nations Cup competition in Strzegom was the first test of the new Olympic format of the team competition before the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The jumping trials on Sunday have also determined the winners of the CI-long competitions. In the CI-long 3* competition, the hardest one at Strzegom Horse Trials, the athletes competed to qualify for the World Equestrian Games in Tryon. The winner, Sara Algotsson Ostholt (SWE), riding the 17-year-old Wega, took the lead after the dressage. An excellent ride in the cross country trial allowed her to stay in the leading position even after one knockdown in the showjumping.

The cup for the second place went to Andreas Ostholt with So Is Et (GER), and Karin Donckers (BEL) finished as third with Fletcha van’t Verahof.

Sara Algotsson Ostholt has also had a great round in the CI-long 2* competition. She kept her score after dressage and showjumping, after which she was first and second, and after a clear round she won the class with Cesar V and took home the cup for the second place with Arpertina. Third place went to Kai Rüder aboard Chicago M. The best polish athlete in the class was Wiktoria Knap, which finished as 7th with Quintus 134.

German riders had a lot to be happy about after the CI-long 1* showjumping. Sophie Grieger (GER) won the class with Costakovich, Niklas Bschorer (GER) finished as second with Back in Time 2, and Frank Ostholt (GER) was third aboard Luvis. As for the Polish athletes in the competition, the best one was Filip Dziuba, finishing on the 4th place with Cormintta.

It was also time for the cross country trials for the CI-short star competitions. Andreas Dibowski (GER) won the CI-short 2* with FRH Corrida, Julia Krajewski (GER) was second with Amande de B’Neville, and third place went to Maxime Livio (FRA) aboard Billy Elmy.

In the CI-short 1* class, Frank Ostholt (GER) took home the cup for the first place with Carlson 119, Elaine Pen (NED) was second, and Julien Despontin (BEL) finished on the third position.

In the national classes, the best riders after the dressage kept their leads throughout the cross country trials. Verena Laber (AUT) has won the P1 class with Con Casiro, and Miroslav Trunda (CZE) with Riviera was first ex aequo with Miloslav Příhoda (CZE) and Eldorado in P2.

Tomasz Stachowiak (POL) won the L class aboard Monito, and Weronika Jerczyńska (POL) took home the first place in the L-18.

10 classes, both national and international, over 280 athletes on more than 300 horses. All that was to be seen during this year’s LOTTO Strzegom Horse Trials.
