Stolis Winner after All-Time Earnings Record

The American Quarter Horse Journal, September 30, 2010 – World champion Stolis Winner takes dead aim on world champion Refrigerator’s all-time earnings record when he starts in the race named after the record holder, the $100,000 Refrigerator Handicap (G1) Saturday night at Lone Star Park.

Jerry Windham’s Stolis Winner (Stoli-Veva Jean by Runaway Winner) has earned $2,097,731 while Refrigerator earned $2,126,309. If Stolis Winner takes the $55,000 first-place check then his career earnings would rise to a new-record $2,131,611.

The 4-year-old Stolis Winner started the year with two strong efforts and then couldn’t quite get the job done in his most recent start. He started the year by qualifying for the Bank of America Sam Houston Championship Challenge (G1) and came back to take the final for his fifth career stakes win. Then he finished sixth – beaten by only a neck – in the Sam Houston Classic (G2) as the 4-5 favorite.

The Heath Taylor-trained Stolis Winner gained three stakes wins during his world championship season as a juvenile. He took the Heritage Place Futurity (G1) at Remington Park and then moved to Ruidoso Downs to win the Rainbow Futurity (G1) and the All American Futurity (G1).

The Double Bar S Ranch’s Jess You And I (Feature Mr Jess-Gold Daze by Tolltac) is in championship form as a 6-year-old with two Grade 1 wins from his latest two starts. The earner of $1,567,471 won the Bank of America Remington Park Championship Challenge (G1) and raced to a game nose win in the Remington Park Invitational Championship (G1) for trainer Toby Keeton.

At 2, he won the Golden State Million Futurity (G1) and, at 4, was named aged champion in 2008 with wins in the Champion of Champions (G1) and the Go Man Go Handicap (G1).

Debra Gotovac’s 3-year-old Swingin Daddyo (Agouti-Swingin Otoole by Jody O Toole) takes on older horses for the first time in the Refrigerator. The Bradley Bolen-trained gelding had a breakout summer at Ruidoso Downs with a win in the Rainbow Derby (G1) and a second in the Ruidoso Derby (G1).

The top two finishers in the Sam Houston Classic – Comin Thru and Point Of Deception – return for the Refrigerator.

Mickey Tinber’s Comin Thru (Separatist-To Catch A Fly by Strawfly Special) rides a four-race winning streak. In addition to the Sam Houston Classic, the Judd Kearl-trained gelding won a couple of minor stakes for Texas-breds.

Javier Contreras’s Point Of Deception (Feature Mr Jess-Daring Deception by Special Effort) has not won a race since January but has been dangerous with two seconds and three thirds in five starts. He finished a nose behind Comin Thru in the tight Sam Houston Classic.
