Mrs. Penny Chenery has established the Vox Populi award for the “voice of the fans to honor the horses they love”. The first award will be presented to the Zenyatta team this coming Saturday.
Mrs. Chenery will participate in a special poster signing to commemorate this historic occasion. Scheduled to join in the festivities are Zenyatta’s owners Ann and Jerry Moss, trainer John Shirreffs, and jockey Mike Smith. Kate Chenery Tweedy will also be in attendance signing copies of her newly released book “Secretariat’s Meadow.” Join Penny Chenery as she presents the inaugural Secretariat Vox Populi Award to the Zenyatta team on February 5th at Santa Anita Park.

All in Divine Timing
Little did I know that two years ago when I first thought of designing jewelry for Secretariat that there would be a movie coming out and that I would be an extra in that movie! I just happened to be in Kentucky in 2009 and when I heard about the interview for extras I extended my stay and was lucky enough to be chosen. What fun going to hair and makeup every day and wearing clothes from the ‘70s. It was so exciting and the best part was to be at Keeneland filming the scenes of Secretariat winning the last leg of the Triple Crown. Our voices were strained from all of the cheering we had to do for take after take until it was just perfect.
Seeing the movie at the Premier in Lexington was another experience of a lifetime. Everyone who attended got to “walk the red carpet” with the line of photographers just like in Hollywood before Diane Lane and the other stars in attendance. I was in a complete daze! And even more so after watching the movie and seeing the passion, drive, and confidence of Mrs. Chenery and her beloved Secretariat find their way to greatness and into history. Secretariat Foundation
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each piece of Secretariat jewelry that you purchase goes to the Secretariat Foundation. Started by Mrs. Chenery, the foundation benefits the welfare of the Thoroughbred community and supports various charities and organizations chosen each year. As with the Barbaro jewelry benefitting the Fund for Laminitis Research, it was important to me to design jewelry that would help horses and the people that care for them. It is my goal to one day have a special foundation of my own and follow the footsteps of Mrs. Chenery.
