St. Charles, MO (December 27, 2010) – Arenus, a premier provider of innovative health and nutritional products for pets and horses, is proud to announce that they are continuing their sponsorship of the American Riding Instructors Association (ARIA). In addition to sponsoring the ARIA, Arenus is offering incentives to trainers who sign up for the Arenus Professional Referral Program.

“Many equine professionals have requested that Arenus develop a program that would reward them for promoting Arenus products,” said Simone Pophal, DVM, PhD, Arenus Business Manager. “They asked and we delivered. We are pleased to announce our exciting Professional Referral Program (PRP).”

The PRP rewards loyal professionals for their referrals of Arenus brand products. PRP is open to all equine and pet professionals. “We are excited to offer this program to our professionals,” said Pophal.  “It is easy to use and all they have to do is go to the Arenus website and sign up under Partnerships.”

The philosophy of Arenus is to not only create unique health and nutrition products that holistically address specific issues, but to support the equestrian community as well. “Trainers all across the country use products from the Arenus family and we always appreciate it when they recommend our products to their clients, so this is one way of thanking them,” said Pophal.

Tip of the Week – Ahhh! That Feels Soooo Good

Chiropractic is much more than treating bones out of place. The vertebrae that encompass the spine surround and protect the spinal cord and major nerve roots. Life force is generated in the brain and transmitted through these nerves to the organs. So, if a vertebra is subluxated, it is more than pain or facilitation that your horse feels, it is also causing diminished activity and vitality of the organs connected to that vertebral segment. Potentially, this can cause digestive, immune and glandular imbalances.

Subluxation of joints is recognized by lessened motion of the joints, by slight changes in the position of the articulating bones, and by pain. The surrounding muscles and connective tissue will splint to protect the area. This alteration of movement in the vertebral joints is known as “kinesiopathy.”  Although most chiropractors adjust the spine, be sure that your chiropractor pays attention to the extremities as well.

Performance horses greatly benefit from regular chiropractic care. There are a plethora of different schools of thought in both the human and equine chiropractic fields. Watch out for excessive long lever techniques and the hammer and mallet folks with no formal training! Remember, by definition a subluxation can be a slight change in the position of bones. Sometimes you get all the adjustment you need from a subtle “network chiropractic” contact on the sacro-tuberous ligament or on the occiput. The American Veterinary Chiropractic Association certifies both DCs and vets to perform chiropractic. This is a good resource.

Noconi Looks to Move Up The Rankings

The American Quarter Horse Journal, December 22, 2010 – Pollsters made no changes to this week’s AQHARacing.com-Horseplayernow.com national polls for 2-year-olds or the older horses, but that figures to change this coming week. Sunday’s Championship at Sunland Park (G1) features the current No. 8-ranked older horse in the land, Noconi, against a field that includes all-time leading AQHA money-earner Stolis Winner and the highly touted Rylees Boy.

The Championship at Sunland contenders figure to move up the national rankings with top performances, but the season’s No. 1 ranking remains securely with Apollitical Jess, winner of the Champion of Champions (G1) and this week’s unanimous choice at the top of the poll.

As for the 2-year-olds, the consistent futurity finalist American Runaway, hero of the Ruidoso Futurity (G1), remains on top of the rankings with just one poll remaining in 2010.

2011 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival Offers over $6 Million in Total Prize Money and Adds Eight FEI ROLEX Ranking Point Classes

Wellington, FL – December 22, 2010 – The 2011 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) will run for 12 weeks from January 12 to April 3, and this year’s competition will offer more opportunities for show jumpers to accumulate FEI ROLEX ranking points than ever before. For riders to start their year off strongly, the only place to gain this amount of points in North America is at the FTI WEF. The FTI WEF will award more than $6 million in prize money throughout the circuit, and $3.2 million of that will be given in the open jumper classes. For the FEI level jumpers, they will compete for $2.7 million in prize money.

“Adding more FEI ROLEX ranking classes is part of our dedication to providing the best equestrian sport,” said Michael Stone, President of Equestrian Sport Productions. “The riders that compete at the FTI WEF will more chances to gain points this year at our events during the winter season than anywhere else in the continent.”

Thanks to the support of G&C Farm, owned by Gustavo and Carolina Mirabal, the FTI WEF was able to add eight new FEI ROLEX ranking classes to the schedule. There are now 27 ranking classes during the FTI WEF, and these eight new FEI ROLEX ranking classes increased over 20% from last year. “Now there will be over 10,000 points available,” Stone said.

Rockville, MO (December 22, 2010) – Heza JackRabbit, a Modern American Shetland Pony, may only be 46” tall but he just became larger than life as one of five horses from the entire country in the running for the USEF Horse of the Year title. Rabbit, who is registered with the American Shetland Pony Club (ASPC), is a six-year-old black stallion and Reserve National Grand Champion Roadster Pony.

“I am very excited for Rabbit and for the American Shetland Pony Club,” said Michelle LeGrotte-Barcus, the proud owner of Rabbit. “I am honored that he is the first Shetland Pony to be up for the Horse of the Year title. I told Rabbit about it and he was excited too, but he thinks his nomination means he gets extra Nicker Makers which are his favorite treat.”

LeGrotte-Barcus, who owns Dreamland Shetlands in Rockville, Missouri, said that as a child she watched the movie “The Black Stallion” and dreamed that someday she would have a black stallion of her own. “I just never thought he would only be 46” tall,” LeGrotte-Barcus said, adding that she fell in love with Rabbit the first time she drove him and decided to buy him before getting out of the cart. “The first time I saw Rabbit, in March of 2007, I fell in love. He was quite a handful and I thought he might not be ready for an amateur but I bought him anyway because I knew he was going to be a special pony one day.”
