Donna Barton Brothers Signs On to “Luck Be a Lady” TV Series

Nashville, TN – Bloodlines, as many people know, are one of the most important attributes in a horse. The same could be said for the people involved in the sport of horse racing. And Donna Brothers makes that abundantly clear. Her mother was a professional jockey (one of the first few women to be licensed as such in the United States) and her father was a rough-stock rider on the rodeo circuit.

She began riding professionally in 1987 and has ridden at Birmingham Turf Club, Rockingham Park, Suffolk Downs, Canterbury Downs, Remington Park, Arlington Park, Keeneland, Churchill Downs, Gulfstream Park, Hialeah, Calder, Turfway Park, Ellis Park, Dueling Grounds (now Kentucky Downs), Monmouth Park, Belmont Park, and Saratoga, to name a few. She rode 11 1/2 years and retired in 1998 as the second leading female jockey in the country by money earned. Highlights of her career are: second in the Breeder’s Cup Juvenile with Hennessey in 1995; leading stakes winning rider at Churchill Downs’ 1995 Spring/Summer meet; and retiring as the second leading female in the nation by money earned after only riding for 11 1/2 years.

Lexington, KY – The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) in conjunction with the Eventing Owners Task Force (EOTF) has launched Experience Eventing, www.ExperienceEventing.com, to bring the thrill of eventing to a wider audience. Experience Eventing is the first website of its kind that gives riders and potential owners the opportunity to connect. As syndicate ownership has evolved to be more affordable and more inclusive the prospect of owning eventing horses has become appealing and plausible to more and more people. Being part of a syndicate will allow people like these to experience eventing like they never have before, as owners. Many riders now have horses they are looking to syndicate and Experience Eventing strives to introduce these riders to interested syndicates.

To see what Experience Eventing is all about please visit: www.ExperienceEventing.com.

Record Voting in Wellington and Ousting of Mayor Bowen Clearly Shows That Wellington Residents Do Not Support Large Commercial Project in the Preserve

Wellington, FL – March 15, 2012 – They came. They voted. And Wellington residents soundly voiced their opposition against the Equestrian Village Development in the Wellington Preserve. By ousting the Wellington Mayor, the record number of voters came to ballot boxes to show their displeasure in Wellington’s leadership.

“Tuesday’s vote was a clear indication that Wellington residents were tired of their elected officials’ lack of interest in preserving what makes Wellington unique,” said Wellington Equestrian Preservation Alliance Executive Director Mat Forrest.

While the developer of this condo/hotel development wants the media to think that this vote was because of one family, the overwhelming turnout says different.

Motivation from Moshi 95, by Jane Savoie

Being different can be tough. While on one hand we all want to stand out and be unique, we also are programmed by our very nature to want to fit in. We want to belong. If you’re different than the crowd, sometimes you can feel left out or “wrong.”

I have a good friend in Tennessee who shared his experience in being different. You see, Chester was a very accomplished hunter/jumper. He is very brave and has springs for legs! He is also a leopard Appaloosa, so he has spots all over his body. Some of the more fancy European warmbloods he met at the horse shows used to tease him about his spots, calling them “zits.” It hurt his feelings.

Chester admitted that being made fun of caused him to withdraw. He became a bit if a loner. He expected other horses to make fun of him, so to stop any unkind, snarky comments, he’d attack first. When he met a new horse, he’d immediately look for something wrong with THEM to use as an emotional barrier. Sometimes he’d make fun of anything different he could find, so the focus was on them, and not on him.

Del Mar, CA – March 12, 2012 – Para-Equestrian Dressage riders concluded the 2012 Rancho Valencia CPEDI3* on Sunday performing their Freestyle routines. With the pressure of earning a qualifying score for the 2012 London Paralympics Selection Trials behind them, riders were able to relax and enjoy their final competition day at the Del Mar Horse Park. Topping the Grade IV Freestyle competition was Lynne Poole (CAN) and her Welsh Cob Frisbee with a 66.167%. In Grade III Briana Beckworth (USA) and Basquewille captured their division title. Earning the blue in Grade II, with a 64% was Ann Arbor resident Sydney Collier (USA) and VPRH Pegasus vom Niehaus-Hof. In Grade Ia, Laura Goldman (USA) took the win with Morgan Webb-Liddle (AUS) following for second just behind Goldman. Ten horse and rider combinations successfully finished the weekend under FEI Judges Hanneke Gerritsen 5* (NED), Marco Orsini 4* (FRA), and Ulf Wilken 5*.

As always, Rancho Valencia Dressage Affaire and Keenan Productions created a superb awards ceremony for the showcase of champions. Honored for her multiple wins over the weekend was Canadian Lynne Poole. The Grade IV rider took a chance at transporting her two horses to Del Mar and her efforts were rewarded. Poole earned the top placing in both the Individual and Team competition aboard Vasco E on Thursday and Friday. Not to be outdone was the dependable Welsh Cob, Frisbee, who topped the freestyle Grade IV division with Poole. She commented, “I have always loved the freestyles, they are the most wonderful thing ever invented. I was so proud of him once the music began. We knew our music very well, and he was a very good boy. Vasco E had a great weekend as well but he became a little tired on Sunday.”
