Ocala, FL (October 26, 2010) – Horse enthusiasts with the drive and passion to learn natural horsemanship will now have the opportunity to earn scholarships to study with world-renowned natural horsemanship trainer Pat Parelli. The Parelli Education Foundation will offer students over 100 scholarships during the next year.

Under the guidance of Parelli’s longtime friend Tim Sullivan, the Parelli Education Foundation will offer students from the novice level to seasoned professionals the chance to learn Parelli Natural Horsemanship, the number one horsemanship program in the world. “I have been friends with Pat for over 15 years and have worked with Pat as a musician, singing on his videos and on his tours,” Sullivan said. “I am very excited about the new Parelli Education Foundation. If a person has the desire and ability, we want them to come and study with us and we don’t want money to get in the way.”

Sullivan said that Parelli’s goal is to make the world a better place for horses and humans. “The more people we can reach through natural horsemanship, the more we can change the world. Pat truly believes in education. Right now we have 300 Parelli Certified Instructors around the world,” Sullivan said.

The money for the Parelli Education Foundation is raised through fundraisers, including the Dream Horse Program. “We bring in foals and yearlings and they are trained right along with our students,” Sullivan said. “We have to have an exit strategy for these fully trained horses and that is the Dream Horse Program. Once the horses are ready to move to a life with an owner, we sell the horse to a qualified person for $1,000. Then the new owner also pays a recommended donation fee which goes straight to the Parelli Education Foundation.”

While the recommended donation varies per horse, Sullivan said that a recent Dream Horse was sold for $60,000. “Carlos Osorio purchased a cutting horse named Especial and $1,000 dollars went to the cost of the horse and $59,000 went into the Parelli Education Foundation,” Sullivan said.

Parelli Natural Horse Training, which has locations in Colorado, Florida, Australia and the U.K., is a holistic approach to natural horse training based on developing a natural relationship with the horse. The relationship is developed through understanding the horse’s nature and the world from the horse’s point of view, and is less of a horse training program and more of a method that teaches humans how to train horses.

  1. This is so wonderful. I heard about this at the suumit. Now that was a great weekend. The funny thing about seeing this bog this morning… I had a dream last night that I was in Pagosa Springs on a scholarships. In my dream I was in a horse behavior course. My greatest dream is to have every horse look at me and say who the heck is that horse in a human suit. I hope the universe was talking to me through my dreams.
