Traverse City, MI – July 17, 2010 – Jumper action continued in the Grand Prix Ring at Flintfields Horse Park this afternoon as the Low and High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper divisions completed their first week of competition at Horse Shows by the Bay Series I. Running through August 1, Horse Shows by the Bay is the Midwest’s most distinguished equestrian festival, held in the heart of beautiful Traverse City, MI. The $5,000 Low Junior/AO Jumper Classic began this afternoon’s competition with a win for Erin Haas and All of a Sudden. The $10,000 Show Jumping Hall of Fame (SJHOF) High Junior/AO Jumper Prix followed with a victory for Laura Pfeiffer and Anberlin.

Renowned course designer Pierre Jolicoeur set the tracks for today’s classes in the Grand Prix Ring. The $10,000 SJHOF Junior/AO Jumper Prix was held thanks to the generous sponsorship of GGT Footing and Footing First with a class of talented entries. Six made it to the jump-off at the end of the first round and it was the last to go that won top prize. Col De Roussett and Miranda Travers-Cavill went first in the jump-off and jumped clear in 36.356 seconds to eventually earn second place honors. Denise Wilson and Corsavita finished in third with four faults in 35.971 seconds. Laura Pfeiffer and Anberlin were the final pair to return and jumped clear in the fastest time of 34.856 seconds for the win.

“We just got Anberlin last spring; we started in the Lows and then moved up to the Highs,” Laura Pfeiffer commented. “We hit a couple grand prixs last year and have been going all through the Florida circuit and the spring shows, and now we’re here.”

Pfeiffer and Anberlin were third in the Grand Prix of Traverse City at Horse Shows by the Bay last year and placed in all of the grand prixs in Jacksonville this year. “She is a mare, so she is a little feisty and she’s younger so she is a little green, but she has an amazing jump and she wants to win,” Pfeiffer said of the eight-year-old Warmblood mare. “In the first round she jumped really high and really careful and in the jump-off she was right on.”

“She was great. I love this show, I love the area, and it doesn’t get much better than Traverse City,” Pfeiffer smiled.

Erin Haas and All of a Sudden won the $5,000 Low Junior/AO Jumper Classic

Prior to the Highs, the $5,000 Low Junior/AO Jumper Classic was held, sponsored by North Face Equine Services of Ann Arbor, MI. Seven of the original entries made it to the jump-off for the class and it was Erin Haas and her 18-year-old gelding All of a Sudden who jumped double clear and stopped the clock in 33.350 seconds for the win. Laura Pfeiffer and Imprimis were the only other double clear and finished second in 34.898 seconds. Emily Kinch and Acardia 3 finished in third with four faults in 33.533 seconds.

Class winner Erin Haas had owned All of a Sudden, also known as Alf, for nine years now. Haas has shown the gelding in the high amateurs and smaller grand prixs, but noted that she shows him in the lows now because he wants to keep showing and she does not want to leave him at home. “He’s fast and I like going fast, so it’s fun for me,” Haas smiled. “I got him from Aaron Vale; he was showing him in Level 7 classes. He is Mr. Perfect; he is strictly business and he does not do anything bad whatsoever. He comes out the same every day, does his thing, and he is such a good boy.”

Haas is a practicing equine veterinarian and does her best to fit riding and showing into her busy schedule. She has had All of a Sudden all through vet school, her internship, and now she is done and practicing and still showing with a barn full of great young horses in addition to her seasoned veteran. A Michigan native, Haas shows at Horse Shows by the Bay every year and loves the area. “I’m from Michigan and we’ve been part of this show since the very first year, so I really like coming here,” she concluded.

Series I of the 2010 Horse Shows by the Bay Equestrian Festival will conclude tomorrow with a full schedule of exciting jumper competition in the Grand Prix Ring. The Children’s and Adult Jumpers will show in the Classics for their divisions, and the day’s competition will conclude with the feature event of the week, the $30,000 Grand Prix of Traverse City. Many of the country’s top horses and riders will compete in the class, riding at the highest level of show jumping, and attempting to earn the coveted trophy and prize money.
