Buffalo, NY – November 8, 2010 – SBS Farms had a fantastic competition at the 127th National Horse Show under the direction of renowned horsewoman Susan B. Schoellkopf. SBS Farms’ rider and head trainer Jennifer Alfano rode to numerous accolades aboard her top mounts, while student Meredith Lipke showed her horses to top ribbons as well. The riders were thrilled with their week of competition in Syracuse, NY, and were elated with their conclusion of the Indoor circuit.

Alfano showed SBS Farms’ gelding Jersey Boy to the reserve championship in the Regular Working Hunter division after two days of success in the War Memorial Arena. They won the handy round and were also awarded two thirds over fences and second place in the under saddle.   Alfano and Jersey Boy also participated in the $50,000 NHS Hunter Classic to honor legendary horseman, Charlie Weaver and were awarded fifth place honors for their efforts.

Alfano also showed Meredith Lipke’s The Specialist to top honors in the Regular Working Hunters, finishing first under saddle and earning three second place ribbons over fences. Following Alfano’s ride, Lipke went on to show The Specialist in the Amateur-Owner Hunters Over 35 division, finishing second in the hack and receiving two fourths and a sixth place over fences.

Following the competition, Alfano noted, “The boys were great, they are always great! Elton (The Specialist) doesn’t care where he is. You could show him out on the street and he would think it is fun. Lewis (Jersey Boy) has grown up so much in the last year. It used to be that you were never sure what he was going to do. He can still throw us for a loop once in awhile, but he is getting more and more consistent.”

Alfano also showed SBS Farms’ Miss Lucy and Sun King in the Green Conformation Hunters. Alfano and Miss Lucy were the stake winners with the high score of 85, while also receiving two fourth place ribbons and a sixth place ribbon for their efforts throughout the week.  Sun King was second in the under saddle and fourth and seventh over fences.

Jennifer Alfano was presented with the Leading Hunter Rider award for the excellent rides she gave all of her mounts throughout the week at the 127th National Horse Show.  Alfano earned The Leading Hunter Rider Challenge Trophy donated by Scott Stewart in Memory of Mrs. Kenneth Wheeler, originally donated by Mr. and the late Mrs. Kenneth Wheeler.

“It is great to win here,” Alfano added. “It is nice for us because it is almost home and it is very special to have such a big event so close to home.”

The team from SBS Farms will now head to home to the Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center, where long time legendary trainer George Morris will teach a three day clinic, November 12-14, 2010.  After the New Year, SBS Farms will travel to Ocala, Florida to compete during the winter months.
