The theme for this year’s gala is “My First Pony,” and it will again feature the hugely popular mechanical bull riding competition.

“My First Pony” is this year’s theme, and will showcase riders from all levels and disciplines and their first ponies.  These riders will include Mason Phelps, Tuny Page, and Tami Hoag along with riders from the VTRC whose first ponies are mounts owned by VTRC.

After last year’s success with the Mechanical Bull riding competition, VTRC has stepped it up a notch this year to add another layer of excitement to the Annual Dinner Dance.  This year, there will be three “Buck Off” events held at the Players Club on Thursday nights before the Dinner Dance.  These dates are Thursday, January 27, 2011, Thursday February 3, 2011 and Thursday February 10, 2011.  Each of these “Buck Off” Events will serve as the qualifying rounds for the Final “Buck Off” Event, which will be held on the night of the Dinner Dance.  The final teams qualified will compete against the winners from last year’s competition, the “Bad Boy Vets” made up of Bill Patterson, Bryan Dubynsky, Johnny Jack, and Travis Laas.

Loxahatchee, FL – October 21, 2010 – Recently, international grand prix rider Lauren Hough donated the mount Aspirant “Randy” to the Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center (VTRC). After suffering some health issues, Randy was unable hold up to the rigors of life as a show horse. Hough has always been a supporter of the work at VTRC and felt that Randy’s gentle nature would make him perfect for a new career helping those with disabilities.

“I have always been a big fan of their program; I think they do a fantastic job there,” said Hough. “Randy has a super character and was not able to stay sound enough for the show ring so it seemed like a perfect match.”

Randy is a 10-year-old Holsteiner gelding who has become the perfect horse for therapy. His gentle nature and “knowing” sense combined with his incredible movement that is therapeutic for many riders have made him very successful. While his manner outside of the ring is sometimes playful, he always knows how to be very careful with his riders.

Loxahatchee, FL – August 12, 2010 – In 2007, Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center (VTRC) implemented the Horses for Heroes Program as a way to provide physical therapy to veterans who have served for the United States. Today, that program continues to make strides in the therapeutic riding world. Recently, Program Director Maurette Hanson facilitated a workshop at the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA) Region 5 Conference with Teresa Bennett Pasquale on how to implement an Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy program for survivors of trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

The Horses and Heroes program uses a unique approach through the application of creative arts (horse painting), yoga, and natural horsemanship in a therapeutic way with a strong emphasis on horse/human relationship. Hanson, a NARHA certified riding instructor, and Pasquale, a licensed mental health therapist specializing in trauma and PTSD, instructed others on how to implement similar programs at their Centers.
