2010 Radio Show Special Episode- One Year Ticket Ceremonies:
We are happy to bring you the audio and some pictures of this special event that was held at Rupp Arena in downtown Lexington, KY. The speakers at this event included many friends of the show:
Jamie Link – CEO of the 2010 World Games Foundation and friend of the show, he has been on several times with us. You can hear one of his past appearances on episode 25.
Fontainebleau (FRA), 22 September 2009 – Excitement is mounting for the HSBC FEI European Eventing Championship at Fontainebleau (FRA) on 23-27 September with a thrilling line-up of 18 nations who have nominated riders, of which 11 could form teams.
France is renowned for its stylish international events, but this is the first time the internationally popular venue of Fontainebleau, with its splendid, historic chateau, has held a Senior Eventing Championship since the “alternative Olympics” in 1980.
Popular British eventer Oliver Townend won The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials yesterday riding the 14 year old grey, Carousel Quest. Burghley Horse Trials is one of the world´s toughest and most respected 3 day events and forms part of the Rolex Grand Slam, the last leg of which is held in Kentucky next Spring.
Oliver was one of only 80 starters to finish the 3 days of the competition on his dressage score, producing clear rounds in both cross country and show jumping. He finished a comfortable 8 penalties ahead of his nearest rival, Polly Stockton riding Westwood Poser, with only 49 riders completing all phases.
The win completes a rare double for the Yorkshireman, who also won Badminton Horse Trials in May on his other horse Flint Curtis. He is now only the sixth rider in history to complete the double within 12 months. This Burghley win also extends his lead in the HSBC FEI Classics to 12 points over William Fox-Pitt with just Les Etoiles de Pau CCI**** in France to go.
It is 16 years since an American rider – Stephen Bradley in 1993 – last won Burghley. This year 8 riders from the USA made the trip across the Atlantic – including experienced riders Phillip Dutton (Truluck) and Karen O’Connor (Mandiba). Phillip Dutton maintained his strong position in 4th place after the dressage and cross country phases to go go clear in the show jumping, incurring only time penalties, to finish a credible 4th overall.

Oliver Townend completed the British four-star double yesterday when he added the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials title, on board Carousel Quest, to the one he won at Badminton in May. The combination produced an immaculate clear round show jumping to add to their clear round cross-country and stunning lead dressage score of 39.8 on day one of the competition.
“I’m still celebrating Badminton,” said Townend afterwards. “It’s amazing and there’s no point in saying anything else because it hasn’t sunk in yet and it probably won’t for another year. Hopefully this puts me in a position to keep going forward for the future and to have more top class horses.”
Townend went into the arena with two show jumps in hand, but jumped a perfect round on Carousel Quest to finish 8.7 penalties clear of the rest of the field. Townend’s result now sets up a thrilling competition in Lexington, Kentucky next April, when he could become only the second rider, after Pippa Funnell, to scoop the $350,000 Rolex Grand Slam for winning Badminton, Burghley and Kentucky consecutively. “I intend to go all out for it!” Townend said. POINTS MEAN PRIZES AT NEXT HSBC FEI CLASSICS VENUE, THE LAND ROVER BURGHLEY HORSE TRIALS
Burghley (GBR), 3 September 2009 – Crunch-time approaches in the HSBC FEI Classics, as a star-studded cast lines up for the fourth and penultimate leg, The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials (GBR) this weekend (3-6 September).
The big question is can William Fox-Pitt, last year’s HSBC FEI Classics winner, maintain his extraordinary record here with a third successive triumph and a record sixth win? He currently heads The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials roll of honour with Mark Todd (NZL) and Ginny Elliot (GBR) with five victories apiece, but no one has ever won three times in succession.
He has certainly set himself up for success with the quality Argentine Thoroughbred Macchiato, 5th at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials and one of the boldest galloping horses around, plus the German-bred, former Ingrid Klimke ride Seacookie, a great jumper and sixth on his 4-star debut at the Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event in April. KALISPELL WINNER ON THE WAY TO POLAND
Kelly Prather on Ballinakill Glory
Kalispell, Montana (USA), 28 July 2009 – Kelly Prather (USA) is on her way to the HSBC FEI World CupTM Eventing Final at Strzegom (POL, 21-23 August) after winning the North American leg at Kalispell, Montana.
Riding Andrea Pfieffer’s mare Ballinakill Glory, Prather, 25, held her nerve in a nail-biting finish to score the only double clear round to hold her overnight Cross-Country lead.
“I just wanted to have a good round,” said Prather. “She is a wonderful show jumper, so it was exciting to ride her and she deserved to jump clear. This was a good course for her and a great flow so you could lock into a rhythm. Coming into the last fence with my reins on the buckle was a bit nerve-racking though!”
Second-placed Jennifer Wooten-Dafoe (USA) was equally pleased with her mare The Good Witch, owned by Daisy Tognazzini, clear but with 3 time penalties.
“After this performance, I feel I can go to Europe and stand my ground. I’m really excited,” she said.
The organisers of the event at Rebecca Farm, Rebecca and Jerome Broussard plus Cindy and Larry Lippon have generously created a fund to help US-based riders travel to Poland.

LEADER FROM FLAGFALL
Prather led from the start with a dressage score of 45.6, adding 9.6 Cross-Country time penalties. Wooten-Dafoe, who had the fastest time (5.6 penalties) rose from 3rd to 2nd after Cross-Country.
The Dressage runner-up, Tiana Coudray (USA) on Ringwood Magister, incurred 20 penalties when missing the left-hand turn to the B element of the Jurassic Park combination at fence 18 and slipped to eventual 8th.
Sara Mittleider (USA) and the veteran El Primero rose from 6th after Dressage to 3rd after Cross-Country but rolled the very last Jumping rail to swap places with Californian Kristi Nunnink (USA) on R-Star.
Riders were complimentary about the Cross-Country course designed by Captain Mark Phillips and built by Californian Bert Wood, which featured intricately carved obstacles, many reflecting the Montana culture, and posed all the right questions of riders while allowing horses to fully understand what was being asked of them.
QUOTES
Kelly Prather: “She went out of the start box and was stronger galloping than she’s ever been. She jumped very big and bold and I never felt a moment’s hesitation. It was one of the best Cross-Country rides ever.”
Jennifer Wooten-Dafoe: “I haven’t been here (to Rebecca Farm) for a couple of years and the course was great. There were a few changes which I felt were good exercises for the Witch and me. Mark Phillips has designed a superb course and it was beautifully built, which made it that much more exciting to take a spin around it.”
Kristi Ninnink: “It is so nice to have an event in the West (of the USA) that makes you feel prepared for other events. You can compete here and feel comfortable about what you will face at the big international competitions on the East coast.”
Jim Wolf of the USEF: “Rebecca Farm is truly a world class event. The facilities, the footing and the outstanding organisation combine to create a premier world-class competition.”
RESULTS
1 Kelly Prather/Ballinakill Glory (USA) 45.6 + 9.6 + 0 = 55.2
2 Jennifer Wooten-Dafoe/The Good Witch (USA) 51.4 + 5.6 + 0/3 = 60
