Lexington, KY – August 22, 2010 – It was a beautiful and sunny Kentucky afternoon, for the final day of the Bluegrass Festival Horse Show. Today riders competed for top prizes during the jumper divisions in the new Indoor Ring at the picturesque Kentucky Horse Park. The highlight event of the day was the $30,000 Bluegrass Festival Grand Prix where Georgina Bloomberg and Fiedi 3 stole the show after completing an incredible double clear-effort with a blazing jump-off time of 40.83 seconds.

Today’s class featured a course designed by Richard Jeffery of Bournemouth, England. The first round included an oxer-vertical double combination and a vertical-vertical-oxer triple combination, with numerous bending lines.

Six riders were able to show perfection over the technical first round track and advance to the short course.  For the shortened tiebreaker test, they began by jumping a wide oxer in the corner and then made a right turn to the double combination before galloping to the end of the ring to jump a single vertical. Next they made a left turn to another oxer and then had a long gallop to an oxer-vertical bending line. Riders finished by galloping home off the left lead over a tall, single vertical.

Georgina Bloomberg Rides to Victory in $30,000 Bluegrass Festival Grand Prix in Kentucky

Photo Credit: ©Erin Cowgill. Georgina Bloomberg, pictured here with Fiedi 3, while competing with the United States Equestrian team at Falsterbo, Sweden, today won the $30,000 Bluegrass Festival Grand Prix at the Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky.

Lexington, KY – August 22, 2010 – New York City’s Georgina Bloomberg outdistanced a starting field of eighteen top show jumpers and then went on to race past five other horse rider combinations in the timed jump-off to win Sunday’s $30,000 Bluegrass Festival Grand Prix at the Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky.

Riding her 12-year-old Hanoverian, Fiedi 3, Bloomberg was one of only six riders to go clean in the initial round. Then over the shortened, timed jump-off course, Bloomberg raced home with another clear round in a blazing 40.830 seconds to easily seal the Sunday victory. She was nearly a second and a half faster than second place finisher Kent Farrington and Valhalla.

“He jumped great in the first round and I just really tried to go as quick as I could in the jump-off,” said a smiling Bloomberg following the trophy presentation. “He has all the scope in the world, so I knew I could just trust him, I just had to make tight turns and keep him together and hope for that I’d be fast enough to get the win.”

August 21, 2010 – Lexington, KY – Hunt Tosh waited in anticipation after his final round. He’d dominated the first round and after a powerful second round he thought there was a chance this night could be his.  It wasn’t until the scores went up that he knew he’d become the winner of the second annual 2010 $100,000 The Chronicle of the Horse/USHJA International Hunter Derby Finals.

It was August 21, the night everyone had been anxiously waiting for, and there were only two more rounds to go before Tosh’s victory was secured. Being held in the lovely venue of the indoor arena at the Kentucky Horse Park only added to the thrill and for a touch of class and tradition, black tie dress was asked.

Those who placed in the top 25 after the qualifying round, held August 20, battled it out in a Classic Hunter round to determine the top 12. Winner of the qualifier Scott Stewart, 2nd place Jennifer Alfano, and 3rd place Liza Boyd were among the few showing. The high scores these riders obtained in the previous round would not help them here.  At the start of the second round all points were erased. Everyone started with a clean slate.

Lauren Crooks and Cincinatti La Silla Win $50,000 CSI-W Hagyard Lexington Classic at Bluegrass Festival Horse Show

Lexington, KY – August 20, 2010 – Another incredible crowd turned out at the new Indoor Ring tonight, this time to watch riders compete for the top prize during the $50,000 CSI-W Hagyard Lexington Classic at the Bluegrass Festival Horse Show. It proved to be an interesting night when the first four riders all completed clear rounds to start, but as the class progressed no other combinations were able to duplicate the effort and join the jump-off. Lauren Crooks and Cincinnati La Silla led the victory gallop after they laid down the fastest clear effort over the short course, continuing their winning streak after taking the top prize in the $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic during the Kentucky Summer Classic.

Tonight’s long and winding course was designed by Richard Jeffery. The first round course featured 16 jumping efforts and included a vertical-oxer-vertical triple combination, an oxer-vertical double combination, and a number of tall, single verticals. At first it looked as though the course was too simple when the first four riders to take to the track all posted clear efforts, but as the evening continued, the rails began to come down and no one else was able to advance to the short course.

The jump-off round began over a single oxer followed by a bending line to a single vertical. Riders then made a left turn to another wide oxer before jumping through the oxer-vertical double combination. Finally, the competitors made an inside turn and galloped to a tall vertical just before the finish line.

Lexington, KY – August 20, 2010 – Bright blue skies and hot breezes welcomed competition this morning in the Stonelea Ring for the Amateur-Owner Hunter divisions at the Kentucky Horse Park.  Crowds hummed in anticipation as the Kentucky Summer Shows are slowly concluding this park, coming to a final and exciting finish this Sunday, August 22, 2010.  The $100,000 Chronicle of the Horse/USHJA International Hunter Derby Finals also began today, just prior to the Amateur-Owner Hunters.

Excellent horsemanship was displayed in the Stonelea Ring at 12:30 p.m. during the Amateur-Owner Hunter divisions.  First in the ring was the Amateur Owner 18-35 Hunter over fences classes. For the first round of this division, it was Bridget Hallman on her mount, Hearsay, who took home the blue ribbon prize. August 20, 2010 – Lexington, KY – “It has a mini World Cup feel to it,” said USHJA president Bill Moroney after Scott Stewart of Wellington, FL topped the leader board in the qualifying round for the 2010 $100,000 The Chronicle of the Horse/USHJA International Hunter Derby Finals August 20 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.

Stewart led the way with an impressive ride on Summer Place, an 8-year-old, grey, Sachsen-Anhaltiner gelding owned by Fashion Farm, giving him a score of 377. “Once you qualify, you’re good to go,” added Moroney.  Stewart agreed, saying, “It’s stressful today because you are just trying to qualify, but tomorrow will be fun.”

Those who qualified will move on to the second round August 21, starting at 6:30 p.m. Riders will navigate in reverse order through a classic hunter course, and from there be cut to the top 12, who will then compete in the final showdown.

Coming in close behind Stewart with a score of 375 was two-time series champion Jennifer Alfano, Buffalo, NY, on SBS Farm’s Jersey Boy, an 8-year-old, chestnut, Warmblood gelding.  In third was Liza Boyd, of Camden, SC aboard Brunello, a 12-year-old chestnut Hanoverian gelding co-owned by Boyd and Janet Peterson, scoring 374.

Lexington, KY – August 15, 2010 – The last day of the 2010 United States Equestrian Federation Pony Finals National Championships was marked by a mix of sun and rain, but that did not slow down the exciting competition in the Covered Arena. The EquiSport Insurance/USEF Pony Medal Finals was the last phase of the week, and after a two-horse hack-off it was Isabelle Caccamise and Better Than Good earning the Gold Medal and a $500 gift certificate from Oakcroft.

Over 180 ponies jumped the first course and the top 21 total ponies returned for the second round. The technical courses both consisted of short lines, bending lines, a hedge jump and an optional fence. Caccamise was at the top of the order for today’s second round and rode the tight turn to the stone line with ease and but chose the easier option to showcase her riding abilities. Victoria Colvin was ranked second and took the more difficult option. Both riders impressed the judges with their incredible skill and were invited back for the final test on the flat.
