The inaugural Great Charity Challenge on Saturday, March 20, at 6 p.m. at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center will benefit two dozen charities with Palm Beach County connections. The event, conceived by ESP President Mark Bellissimo and his eldest daughter Paige, will be a three-person relay race, with each team composed of two junior/amateurs, anchored by a world-class or Olympic rider. Participating world-class riders include 2008 U.S. Olympic gold medalists Laura Kraut of Wellington, McLain Ward, Beezie Madden, and Will Simpson as well as Rodrigo Pessoa of Brazil and Eric Lamaze of Canada, and Olympian Lauren Hough, in a unique show jumping competition. All prize money is donated to charity. Wellington, FL – March 13, 2010 – Victory was sweet tonight for Double H Farm’s Hunter Harrison as his horse Night Train sped to the win with Olympic gold medalist Rodrigo Pessoa (BRA) in the $200,000 FEI World Cup Grand Prix, CSI 3*, presented by CN. McLain Ward (USA) on Sapphire, owned by Ward and Blue Chip Bloodstock, was second, while Lauren Hough (USA) and Laura Mateo’s Quick Study were third. The ninth week of the FTI WEF is sponsored by CN and runs through Sunday, March 14. The 2010 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival has 12 weeks of competition that conclude on April 4, 2010, and they will be awarding almost $6 million in prize money through the circuit. Leopoldo Palacios of Venezuela designed a 14 numbered obstacle track for the opening round, and seven of 45 entries were clear to continue to the jump-off. Wellington, FL – March 13, 2010 – Children’s jumpers kicked off their weekend of competition today at the 2010 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF). Thirty-two entries went to post today in the Equine Tack and Nutritional Children’s 14-17 Jumpers, and Colby Russey and her mount Crouching Tiger topped the leader board in today’s jump-off class. Russey, of Cooper City, FL, has been riding Crouching Tiger for two years and just began competing in the Children’s Jumper ranks this year. Russey has had the ride on “Tiger,” a 15-year-old Thoroughbred gelding, for two years, and has developed quite a partnership with him. The first round in today’s class consisted of nine numbered obstacles, and the most challenging part of the course was a short approach to an oxer followed by a bending line to a pair of double verticals. Wellington, FL (March 12, 2010) – Thanks to a fast jump-off and a last minute decision to ride the course differently, Tracey Mack-Gorin and Denmark won the $10,000 Adult Amateur 18-35 Jumper Classic during the eighth week of the 2010 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival. Sponsored by Classic Equine Equipment, a nationally recognized leader in quality horse stall systems and stable accessories, Mack-Gorin won a polar fleece vest from Classic Equine. “The jump-off was fun and I really love Denmark,” Mack-Gorin said, adding that she is leasing him for the winter circuit from Grace Rogers. “I want to thank Classic Equine Equipment for sponsoring the class. I won the vest from Classic Equine which I love, but my dad took it and has been wearing it all week – he obviously loves it too!” Twenty-two year old Mack-Gorin, from Mystic, Connecticut, rides with Missy Clark at North Run. “I have been riding with her for the last seven years and before that I rode with her husband John Brennan,” Mack-Gorin said. “I show in several different divisions but the adult jumpers is my favorite. I will be going to law school in the fall, but I will continue to show in the adult jumpers.” Special Olympics Equestrian County Games Held at the FTI Winter Equestrian FestivalThe Special Olympics Equestrian County Games will be held at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center at the FTI Winter Equestrian Festival on Saturday, March 13, from 8 a.m. to noon. The festivities will be held in Ring 7 on the show grounds, and the event will also use the lunging/schooling ring behind Ring 7. Forty riders will compete in various disciplines from assisted riding to trail riding, dressage, and pole bending. “We strive to let them ride to the highest of their ability,” says Ruth Menor of Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center. Y Wonder Y is already headed in the right direction, thanks to winning the Baby Green Hunter Championship with Beisel during the eighth week of the Winter Equestrian Festival. “David’s wife Paige must be very excited about Y Wonder Y. I hope she has great success with him in the future, as he’s already off to a great start,” said Kat Wojtylak, Product Manager of Draper Equine Therapy and sponsor of the Baby Green Hunter division. “We awarded David with a Draper Therapeutic Nap Blanket, which I am sure he will find very beneficial as he travels from show to show.” Beisel owns and operates David Beisel Stables in Goshen, Ohio. “David was really thrilled with Y Wonder Y,” said Allie McBreen, assistant trainer at David Beisel Stables. “This was Y Wonder Y’s third horse show and he did fabulous. We have only had him about six months and he’s already moving forward in the right direction.” |
