ExhibitsThe Horse: Acclaimed Exhibition Coming to the Kentucky Horse ParkPrestigious American Museum of Natural History Sends Its Blockbuster Exhibition to the International Museum of the Horse LEXINGTON, Ky. (August 29, 2011) – The Kentucky Horse Park’s International Museum of the Horse (IMH), in collaboration with the American Museum of Natural History, announced today that it will host the exhibition, The Horse, from October 22, 2011, through April 6, 2012. The IMH is a major lender to the exhibition. “We are thrilled to be able to bring this world-class exhibition to Kentucky,” said Bill Cooke, director of the Kentucky Horse Park’s International Museum of the Horse. “The American Museum of Natural History is truly one of the world’s great natural history museums, and they did a masterful job in developing an exhibition that not only illuminates the timeless union between humans and horses, but does so in an amazingly entertaining way. We are excited that this will be our first blockbuster-level exhibition while schools are in session. I have no doubt that both teachers and their students will love The Horse.” From the horse’s earliest ancestors grazing on the plains of what is now Nebraska to a magnificent contemporary Deborah Butterfield horse sculpture, the eternal bond between horses and humans is explored in the largest equestrian traveling exhibition ever assembled. The Horse graphically portrays the horse’s impact on trade, transportation, labor, warfare, culture, and sports. It showcases spectacular fossils, models, dioramas, and cultural objects from around the world, including many from the American Museum of Natural History’s world famous collections. Equestrian Sport Productions, LLC Juliet Harrison Photography NewsOn May 7th the Local Flavor/Local Color annual Art Show at the Maplebrook School in Amenia, New York will have its Kentucky Derby inspired opening reception. As some of you already know, I started this year off by challenging myself along with a group of fellow photographers, to take a photo every day. Since it was impossible to do that and post each day in B&W, I have been exploring my world in color with my digital cameras. Green Halter (above left) and Ghosting (below right) are two of the images that have come from this challenge. They will be hung at the Maplebrook show. 6 other color images will also be available there unframed in the loose art bins. The reception is lots of fun, the artwork is always wonderful and it is open to the public. It culminates with a great live broadcast of the Derby. The party starts at 4:30 pm. Hope to see some of you there. EQUISCAPE I have been invited to have a Solo Show of my work at the Red Filter Fine Art Photography Gallery in Lambertville, New Jersey. This version of the Lexington Convention and Visitors Bureau’s “blue horse” was signed by all gold medal winning athletes during the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. The signed statue along with a display describing the eight disciplines featured at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games is now housed as a permanent exhibit in the Sport Horse Gallery at the International Museum of the Horse. Big Lex will serve as a permanent reminder of the tremendous success of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. Big Lex was inspired by Lexington, the great stallion from the late 1800s who was named in honor of the city of his birth. The greatest sire of his time, Lexington helped to solidify the title of “Horse Capital of the World” for the city. Lexington still holds the record for number of years he lead America’s sire list with 14 consecutive years and two additional years. On permanent loan from the Smithsonian, the bones of Lexington are now on display at the International Museum of the Horse. The FTI Winter Equestrian Festival Welcomes Artist Josée Nadeau to The GalleryWellington, FL – March 2, 2011 – The FTI Winter Equestrian Festival is pleased to welcome artist Josée Nadeau to The Gallery at PBIEC. Josée Nadeau is an internationally-renowned artist whose impressionistic style and larger than life paintings, often six to eight feet, grace the homes of many avid art lovers and collectors, including celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey, Clint Eastwood, Pierce Brosnan, Frances Fisher and many more. Nadeau will bring her Equine Series of artwork, detailing everything from the ruggedness of the West to the beauty of English riding equestrian events to the majesty of polo and the speed and power of thoroughbreds. In speaking about her artistic approach, Nadeau explained, “It’s not about painting a horse. It’s about painting the spirit of that horse.” Her paintings will be on display at The Gallery until March 20. For ten years Nadeau was honored to have a permanent studio on the grounds of French Impressionist Claude Monet’s Gardens, in Giverny, France. Nadeau was the protégé of the Curator- in-Chief, Gerald Van der Kemp, the esteemed French art expert, who saved the Mona Lisa from the Nazis and later restored Louis XIV’s palace at Versailles and then Monet’s Gardens. Nadeau also was privileged to paint in the same studios in Madrid as Picasso and Dali. The Equine Vision of Robert VavraKentucky Horse Park to Present a 60-Year Retrospective by the World’s Premier Photographer of Horses LEXINGTON, KY (February 24, 2011) – Famed novelist James Michener once wrote, “Though equus has fired the imaginations of painters from the prehistoric hunter-artists of Altamira to Leonardo da Vinci, Velazquez, Goya and Picasso, still in the history of photography no cameraman has recorded the horse with such excitement and personal style as has Robert Vavra. His photographs are works of art; they are interpretations of the horse as perceptive as those done by Stubbs and Remington. They are a joy to see, because they evoke the inner nature of the horse.” Today Vavra is universally recognized as the world’s premier photographer of equines, and his work will be the focus of the Kentucky Horse Park’s next exhibition, Vavra’s Vision: The Equine Images of Robert Vavra, Mar 19 – May 30 in the International Museum of the Horse – a Smithsonian Affiliate. The exhibition is being presented courtesy of the International Institute of Photographic Arts. By portraying the horse in his fresh and very personal way, Vavra has become an icon in his own lifetime. He is the author of 37 books accounting for more than 3 million volumes in print, in eight languages. This retrospective exhibition will delve into the world that Vavra has created through his lens over the last 60 years while circling the globe. In photographs, in film and in print, his images capture the strength, beauty and wisdom of the horse. Read more> http://www.horsesinthesouth.com/article/article_detail.aspx?id=13315 |
