Canadian Artist Captures a Hickstead “Moment in Time”

Calgary, Alberta – One of Canada’s great Equine artists will forever be remembered for capturing a “Moment in Time” of the world’s most famous show jumping horse. 2012 is an Olympic year, and a new horse will reign as champion and carry the title for another four years, but the world will never forget the one whose place it will take. Rocky Mountain Show Jumping is pleased at this time to announce that Kim Penner has captured a famous Hickstead “Moment in Time.”

Kim’s rendition of the Hickstead “Moment in Time” is a must see, and will be unveiled next month in Goby’s Grill at Anderson Ranch, available for all who love the sport to see during their tournaments hosted this summer.  Just one month prior to the London Olympics, John Anderson and Phillip Rozon, the lead promoters’ of the project will be pleased to present Kim’s painting of Hickstead, Eric Lamaze’s four legged partner who carried him to countless victories around the world, and was tragically lost last November during an International competition in Verona, Italy.

The dedicated online platform, which can be accessed here, is designed to ensure that ideas continue to be shared before proposed rule changes are sent to the National Federations prior to voting at the FEI General Assembly, which will take place in Istanbul (TUR) on 5-8 November 2012.

“The FEI Sports Forum has been invaluable to all members of our community”, said Ingmar de Vos, FEI Secretary General.

“We have had tremendous feedback on the content and the debate it generated during the Forum itself, and we are now looking forward to continuing these constructive discussions online.

Tami Hoag Keeps Listeners in Suspense on Robert Dover’s Radio Show

Wellington, FL (May 2, 2012) – Tami Hoag, a New York Times bestselling author and Grand Prix rider, kept listeners in suspense when she appeared on Robert Dover’s radio talk show recently. As the reigning “Queen of Suspense,” Hoag chatted with Olympic dressage rider Robert Dover about her books, her horses and if she will write another novel about the equestrian world.

“You are hot,” Dover told Hoag during their on-air chat. “I travel all around the world and no matter where I am, from bookstores to airports, I see your books.” Hoag’s most recent novel Down the Darkest Road is her 15th New York Times bestseller and her books have been translated into 20 languages worldwide.

Hoag shared the story of her early life with Dover, from her days growing up in Minnesota riding Quarter Horses. “I rode western and I rode in judged and timed events. We didn’t really have jumpers in our area until one trainer moved to town. I started riding jumpers with him, using his horse,” Hoag said.

Motivation from Moshi 100, by Jane Savoie

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012 | Horse Trainers, Inspirational, Jane Savoie | Comments

Sometimes I get tired and don’t feel inspired to work.

Do you have days like that? I’ll bet you do. And it’s totally okay to take some downtime to recharge.

It’s like that old story about the lumberjack hacking away at a tree stump with a dull axe. Each hack at the trunk made a little dent, but the axe was so dull it didn’t bite into the wood. As dusk approached, the fellow’s wife came out to see what was taking so long. She handed her husband a canteen of cool water and took the axe from him. While he drank, she went into the shed, turned on the grinding wheel, and sharpened the axe to a fine edge. She then took the axe back to her husband, retrieved the canteen, and returned to the house without a word. The lumberjack went back to work with the sharpened axe. In minutes, he chopped through the stump.

Inaugural FEI Sports Forum Declared a Huge Success

The inaugural FEI Sports Forum began on 30 April in Lausanne (SUI). © Edouard Curchod/FEI.

Lausanne (SUI), 1 May 2012 – The inaugural FEI Sports Forum opened in Lausanne (SUI) on 30 April in the presence of more than 280 delegates representing 39 National Federations (NFs), Event Organisers, International Riders, Owners and OrganisersClubs, members of the FEI Technical Committees, veterinarians, sponsors, and media.

“This day marks a new beginning for the International Equestrian Federation,” FEI President HRH Princess Haya said in her opening address. “As of today, the men and women who compete in horse sport will play a direct role in its governance.

“The ideas that we share over the next three days will shape the future of our sport. For the first time, you will have an opportunity to influence the rule-making process long before proposed changes are submitted to the FEI General Assembly.

“As the world governing body of equestrian sport, the FEI should constantly strive to make improvements by clarifying roles, rules and procedures. But those decisions cannot be made behind closed doors by a select few. They should be discussed openly, honestly and with full transparency by those who will be most affected by the outcomes.

Loxahatchee, FL (April 30, 2012) – When Bruce Ekstrom of Tuigpaarden Farm received the call from Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center asking him to judge the Special Olympics, the accomplished horseman wasted no time in reorganizing his schedule and changing his flights so that he could adjudicate the event.  The decorated trainer has racked up wins across the country and can normally be found at one of his two training centers either in Shelbyville, Kentucky or Ocala, Florida, but Ekstrom admits there is no place he’d rather be than supporting therapeutic riding centers like Vinceremos.  The opportunity to act as a judge for the Special Olympics was not something he was willing to let pass by.

The Special Olympics took place in the Vinceremos covered arena on Sunday, April 1st, and included riders ranging in all age groups and backgrounds.  “I had a phenomenal time as the judge for the Special Olympics,” said Ekstrom.  “These programs are so important to our community and to the people who participate in them.  The value of equestrian therapy in settings such as Vinceremos is immeasurable, and I am always ready to lend support and promote these events, be it any chance I get!  The facility is beautiful, the staff is amazing with their knowledge, and then add to this the kind, wonderful horses.  I believe it to be a very positive situation for all involved.”
