Blainville, Quebec – June 29, 2010 -The Classique Internationale De Blainville (Jumping Blainville) is quickly approaching the kick-off date of July 7, 2010, for its two weeks of exciting hunter/jumper action. The city of Blainville is utilizing its team of full-time employees to make the Equestrian Park of Blainville a welcome home for more than 500 riders over the two weeks of competition. The first week of Jumping Blainville will get underway July 7-11, 2010, and the second week will continue July 14-18, 2010.
Over the next few weeks, buildings and fences will be repainted, rings will be dragged and levelled, and a sign will be installed welcoming riders, owners and their families to Blainville. The mayor, Mr. François Cantin, has pledged to make his park one of the best facilities in the country for riders and their horses so that they will come back every year to participate in the horse show or enjoy a peaceful week riding through the woods. Riders can also drive a short 20 minutes to downtown Montreal to experience its excellent dining and shopping. The Equestrian Park of Blainville is one of the best in the country because of its permanent and semi permanent stalls, wash racks for horses, bathrooms and showers, short distances to barns and rings, and full service restaurant and camper parking.

WESTPORT, CT – June 29, 2010 – McLain Ward, aboard Vocas, owned by Louisburg Farm, emerged victorious over a field of 27 competitors at the $25,000 Grand Prix on Saturday, June 26, 2010, the culminating event of the Fairfield County Hunt Club June Benefit Horse Show held in Westport, Connecticut.
Urged on by spectators and over 350 guests at The EQUUS Foundation Grand Prix Benefit Luncheon, Ward and Vocas claimed victory in an exciting jump off. Ward also placed 4th aboard Esplanade 7 owned by Louisburg Farm, and 12th aboard Miel D’Amuray owned by Gabby Slome. George N. Venizelos representing Wells Fargo Advisors was on hand to present the well-earned blue ribbon, along with Jonathan Moffly of Moffly Media, Show Co-Chairs, Alison Ashman and Catherine Herman, Jenny Belknap Kees, Chairman of the Board of The EQUUS Foundation, and Lynn Coakley, President of The EQUUS Foundation.

On Sunday, June 20, 2010, Jacqy Gamble’s life was turned upside down when her beloved horse, Mensche, bolted during an endurance training session in the Hansen Dam Wash. After an intense search spanning 48 hours, including an infrared flyover of the wash, there was no sign of the missing Mensche.
Mensche, a 12 year old bay Arabian gelding with four white stocking and a full blaze, measuring 15.2 hands, became missing during a trail ride June 20. The seasoned endurance horse was startled when a dog ran underneath him. Gamble became dislodged and Mensche broke free, taking off with the dog chasing him. Gamble searched the nearby area, but was unable to find any sign of Mensche. The dog’s owner reported he had come home, but the spooked horse was nowhere to be found.
During the next 48 hours Gamble and volunteers searched the Tujunga Wash at Hansen Dam but were unable to find any evidence of what happened to Mensche. On Tuesday evening, the LAPD conducted a flying infrared scan of the area to see if they could detect any signs of a large warm-blooded animal. They were unable to find anything, leading Gamble to believe that someone could have caught Mensche Sunday after he got loose.
(Wellington, Florida) – The Village of Wellington (pop. 55,584) has amended its Equal Employment Opportunity policy to prohibit discrimination based on both “sexual orientation” and “gender identity or expression” in Village employment. The policy covers the Village’s 258 employees.
The action was taken following a request from the Palm Beach County Human Rights Council, a local non-profit organization dedicated to ending discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.
“People should not be fired, harassed, or denied promotion simply because they are gay or lesbian, or because they don’t fit the stereotypes for masculinity or femininity,” said Council President Rand Hoch.
June 29, 2010 – CHICAGO, (EWA) – Since the 107th Congress (2001), equine welfare advocates across the country have been trying to get elected officials to pass legislation to ban the slaughter of American horses. Polls have consistently shown that the legislation has the support of 70% of Americans, but without fail the bills have been stalled, blocked with secret holds, and left off the legislative calendars. Now it appears the European Union (EU) and Canada may stop horse slaughter before Congress.
Strict new traceability requirements will go into effect July 31st, for all horses slaughtered for consumption in the EU. Additionally, the EU is poised to require Country of Origin labeling of all meat. And finally, the EU has begun investigating inhumane slaughter practices in Mexico.
Despite President Obama’s promise to not allow lobbyists to run the country and his support of a horse slaughter ban when he was in the Senate, the agricultural special interests have continually been allowed to prevent the legislation from moving forward. Public records reveal donations from special interest groups to the legislators blocking the bills.
“When it comes to stopping the slaughter of horses, clearly money talks,” commented Equine Welfare Alliance’s (EWA) John Holland.
WELLINGTON, Fla. — “Back Where It All Began” will be held Thursday, Sept. 2, 6-11 pm at the Bridgehampton Community House during the Hampton Classic Horse Show in Bridgehampton, N.Y. The beach-style party will benefit the Equestrian Aid Foundation (EAF), a nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance to equestrians and horsemen in need.
Partygoers are encouraged to “come as you are” from the Hampton Classic Horse Show to enjoy drinks and hors d’oeuvres in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. An auction offering products and services will complete the evening.
“Being at this event over the years has felt a lot like coming home,” said EAF President R. Scot Evans. “It is a wonderful way to bring us all together to help those in our community suffering hard times, either from an illness or injuries.”
A new horse came to the barn today. She is very young. I was in the arena with Jane when she arrived. She saw us practicing some upper level movements, and it embarrassed her. She told a friend of mine that she was ashamed that she didn’t know very much, and was afraid to talk to me since I obviously know a great deal.
That surprised me, and made me sad. She is young and hasn’t had much training. Why should she be shy about what she can or can’t do? I’ve been around awhile and have lots of experience. She’s just starting out. I don’t like it that she’s intimidated by me.
I heard Jane tell someone that you don’t have to be an advanced rider to be a really GOOD rider. Just be the best at what you’re doing now! My friends who are working at their training level foundations are just as hard working and dedicated as I am at Grand Prix. I’ve just been at it longer.
