2 May 2010 – Nominations for the FEI Presidential election closed at midnight CET yesterday, 1 May 2010, and three candidates have been put forward for the post.
HRH Princess Haya, who was elected to the FEI Presidency in 2006, has declared that she is seeking a second four-year term to take her through to the 2014 General Assembly. The other two candidates are Sven Holmberg (SWE), the FEI’s current First Vice President, and Henk Rottinghuis (NED), who was elected as a member of the FEI Audit and Compliance Committee at the 2009 General Assembly.
The FEI Presidential election will take place at the 2010 FEI General Assembly, which will be held in Chinese Taipei on 5 November. National Federations will vote by secret ballot at the General Assembly.

Wellington, FL – April 30, 2010 – Todd Flettrich and Cherry Knoll Farm’s Otto traveled to the Kentucky Horse Park to compete in the 2010 Kentucky Cup CDI*** Dressage Tests, but had a disappointing weekend when Otto showed up not feeling well. On Tuesday, Flettrich rode the Grand Prix test and finished seventh, but Otto did not have his usual brilliance. When Otto still wasn’t feeling well on Wednesday, Flettrich chose to withdraw from the competition, and sent Otto home to Florida to rest.
“We completed the test, but it was definitely not our best,” Flettrich noted. “The nice thing about it was that he really kept on trying for me, but he definitely didn’t feel right. I chose to ride the Grand Prix to prove that he could still do it under difficult circumstances, but I didn’t want people to think that there was something permanently wrong with him.”
Paul Tapner (AUS) and Inonothing galloped into the lead at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials, the second leg of the HSBC FEI Classics, after picking up just 0.4 of a penalty in the Cross-Country (Photograph: Kate Houghton).
2 May 2010 – Paul Tapner (AUS) was clearly overjoyed as he came through the finish line at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials (GBR) on his second ride, Inonothing. His celebrations were more than justified as, after an enthralling and dramatic Cross Country day, he found himself in the lead at a 4-star event for the first time.
The track at Badminton, the second leg of the HSBC FEI Classics, proved as enigmatic as ever, taking its fair share of high-profile scalps, including all the top five riders after Dressage.
“I was aware that there were quite a lot faults occurring,” said British-based Tapner, 34, who was equal 11th after Dressage. “But after I’d ridden my first horse (Stormhill Michael, 12th) I had a roast lunch and then a sleep in the lorry and tried to forget about it. Inonothing is a unique horse to ride across country; he’s so small and nippy.”
If Tapner wins tomorrow, he will be the third Australian rider to do so in the last four years, following Andrew Hoy (2006) and Lucinda Fredericks (2007).

Lexington, KY (April 29, 2010) – Canadian Olympic rider Selena O’Hanlon and her mount, Colombo, owned by Michael and Elaine Davies of Elgin Ontario, rode their way to an eighth place finish out of 53 riders at the Rolex Kentucky CCI**** this past weekend. Draper Equine Therapy, makers of therapeutic horse and rider products featuring the innovative “smart fiber” textile Celliant/Holofiber, are proud supporters of O’Hanlon Eventing.
O’Hanlon started the competition and was promptly put into 17th place with her dressage score of 52.7 during the first phase of the event. O’Hanlon then went on to cross country and was able to move herself up in the standings to 10th place having been only one of ten riders to get through the course with no faults. During the last and final phase, O’Hanlon and Colombo only took one rail down to ensure an 8th place finish overall after show jumping. O’Hanlon was the second highest placing Canadian rider at the event securing her position on the 2010 Canadian National Eventing Team’s Short List for The World Equestrian Games.
It’s hard for me to imagine Jane with another horse. She’s MY person, and I’m pretty possessive of her. I know she’s partnered with lots of horses before I came to her life, but I can’t imagine her with anyone but me.
I noticed Jane was a bit melancholy the other day, and then heard her say that her former mount, Woody, had passed away. Woody was very old and ready for his transition, but it was still sad for Jane to realize he was no longer on this planet.
Jane said she was so grateful that Woody had been cared for by a wonderful lady during his senior years. She talked about how much Woody had taught her, and how much fun they had together at shows and clinics over the years. Jane intentionally focused on the brightness he brought to her and others’ lives, not on the loss of his passing.
Badminton first-timers Kai Rüder (GER) and Le Prince Des Bois lead after the dressage at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials, the second leg of the HSBC FEI Classics (Photograph: Kit Houghton).
1 May 2010 – Kai Rüder (GER) and his powerful stallion Le Prince des Bois held an appropriately regal lead at the close of Dressage at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials (GBR), the second leg of the HSBC FEI Classics.
Rüder, 39 and making his Badminton debut after a 20-year quest, has a 5.8-penalty lead over first day leader Ruth Edge (GBR) on Two Thyme ahead of what is predicted to be an influential Cross Country day due to the forecast heavy rain.
The leading duo finished 10th at Burghley (GBR) last year – when Rüder won the HSBC Training Bursary for the best 4-star debut – and have spent the last month based in England with German team trainer Christopher Bartle (GBR).
Le Prince des Bois, who performs a reliably expressive Dressage test, is by Yarlands Summer Song, the stallion ridden with such panache at Badminton in the 1990s by France’s Marie-Christine Duroy.

Albuquerque, NM — Victories continue to accumulate for Horses Unlimited’s Leonberg and his Danish rider Mikala Munter Gundersen. The latest victory was a 70.79% in the Kentucky Cup Grand Prix Special over a field that included World Cup Finalists, European medalists, Olympians and Pan American Games medalists. The Kentucky Cup was the test event for the dressage world championships at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games that will be held at the Kentucky Horse Park September 25 to October 10, 2010. This was the third CDI blue ribbon this season for the pair. They also won both the Grand Prix and the Grand Prix Freestyle at the Palm Beach Dressage Derby CDI-W in March. These successes have ensured that the duo will compete at shows in Europe this summer, including the Danish National Championships.
“I’ve never felt Leonberg perform in this way before,” Gundersen explained. “He was completely with me and very expressive. I was thrilled.” › Continue reading
