His commanding Los Alamitos Super Derby (G1) victory shot the sophomore up to a No. 6 national ranking. The week’s other active heavyweight player, No. 4 First Moonflash, also visited the winner’s circle by taking the New Mexico Classic Cup Championship (RG1) at Zia Park. The win for First Moonflash was not enough in voters’ eyes to advance him further, as he remains behind Freaky, Inseparable and Jess You And I this week. Meanwhile, voters chose to posthumously honor LD Fire with a No. 7 ranking among the nation’s leading 2-year-olds, one week after the Ed Burke Million Futurity heroine was euthanized following a pelvic fracture. LD Fire may be replaced in future rankings, but this week takes her place in the poll behind the likes of Runnning Brook Gal, who remains the unanimous No. 1 juvenile on the strength of her All American Futurity (G1) victory. NATIONAL RANKINGS, 2-YEAR-OLDS 1. RUNNNING BROOK GAL (90) First Corona Call (10), Ragazzo (8), Favorite Cartel (8), First Prize Leesa (7), Swingin Daddyo (5), Hoist Mission (4) NATIONAL RANKINGS, 3-YEAR-OLDS & UP 1. FREAKY (90) Alice K White (10), Streakin Cherry (7), Fantastic Corona Jr (5), Charal Kid (5), Gone To The Mountain (4), Stolis Winner (2), Noconi (2), Saturday Nite Fever (1) The nine voters are: Ed Burgart (Los Alamitos announcer/handicapper) Poll results are also available at www.aqharacing.com and www.HorseplayerPRO.com.
