WELLINGTON, FL – July 7, 2014 — Known as the birthplace of modern polo, Manipur is the next destination for Ed Armstrong’s Hun-Tre Polo Tours.

Created by the longtime polo player and event organizer, a unique one-of-a-kind polo travel experience called Origins is scheduled for November 23-29. It will take polo players and aficionados on a historical trip back in time to the ancient world of polo.

The exotic polo adventure will take place in Manipur’s capital of Imphal where the eighth International Manipur Polo Tournament will be played on the world’s oldest polo field on the indigenous Manipuri polo ponies. Several international teams, including a USPA-sanctioned USA Team, are expected to compete.

Hun-Tre Polo Tours is a tour company specializing in polo-inspired tours combining the sport of kings with breath-taking sites and venues around the world including Argentina, London and Manipur.

Hun-Tre (pronounced hoon-tray) is Manipuri for “Play Ball” which is shouted when the polo ball is thrown in.

Highlights of the well-rounded Manipur package will include daily polo matches; a game of Manipuri Sagol Kangjei (polo) in traditional garb; a lesson in arambai, the equestrian darts of the Manipuri cavalry; visits to the Nature Pony Preserve, the famed shaman shrine to Manipur’s God of Polo and traditional polo club; and VIP invitations to the traditional closing ceremony with a dancing marching band.

“We were blown away by the incredible hospitality at the very place where polo was founded,” said U.S. team captain Mason Wroe who competed in the 2013 Manipur Polo International Tournament.

“By far, the horses were the highlight,” Wroe said. “We were amazed not only by their size but by their toughness as well.”

Armstrong is well-experienced in every facet of polo since he was introduced to the game in 1986. He is a member of the USPA Arena, Tournament and International Committees. He was Director of Tournaments and Clubs for the USPA, the sport’s governing body, for nearly 10 years and headed its intercollegiate and interscholastic programs before leaving to start his own polo company based in the Plains, Va. and Washington D.C.-metro area.

Spaces are available for the November 23-29 Manipur package at various prices for single and double occupancy for two nights in New Delhi and four nights in Imphal.
