SAUGERTIES, NEW YORK (June 7, 2011) — Kids of all ages are welcome at HITS-on-the-Hudson’s annual Kids Day, sponsored by Purina Mills, Sunday, June 12, 2011. The HITS horse show grounds on Washington Avenue Extension in Saugerties, New York will transform into a fiesta of sorts from noon to 2 p.m. where the youngest of visitors will be the guests of honor.

One of the more popular events at HITS-on-the-Hudson, Purina Mills Kids Day welcomes visitors to the grounds to enjoy family-friendly activities including pony rides by Vertical Limit Stables of Saugerties, an appearance by Whoopsy Daisy the Clown, autograph sessions with acclaimed Grand Prix equestrians, arts and crafts, and much more.

The Horseless Horseshow, sponsored by Beval Saddlery, is a returning crowd favorite and will encourage visiting children to get into the spirit of the show and showcase their riding skills. No horse? No problem – competitors will go it alone in this horse show and the top three competitors will receive prizes.

“It’s important to us that we invite local families to enjoy HITS-on-the-Hudson alongside some of the best equestrian athletes in the world,” said Lisa Engel of HITS Corporate Sponsorship Team. “Purina Mills’ Kids Day makes it a fun and unique event for all of us – HITS, the kids, the community and the riders who are here competing.”

HITS Official Radio Station, WRWD 107.3 FM, will be airing a live broadcast from the show grounds to kick the day off starting at noon.

This Sunday’s visitors to HITS-on-the-Hudson will also have the opportunity to meet, greet and receive autographs from some of the Grand Prix riders after they compete in the $100,000 Purina Mills Grand Prix, presented by Pfizer Animal Health. The class is slated for 2 p.m. Kids can cheer on their favorite horse and rider teams as they compete for top prizes and honors including qualifying for the Pfizer $1 Million Grand Prix, the lauded achievement of the equestrian world, scheduled for September 11, 2011 at HITS-on-the-Hudson show grounds in Saugerties.

Admission for Kids Day is $5 for adults, while visitors 12 and under are admitted for free. All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit FAMILY of Woodstock, Inc. Parking is also free. Volunteers from FAMILY of Woodstock will be on hand to participate in the festivities with free face painting for children. FAMILY will also have tickets for their $20,000 BIG MONEY Raffle on sale at the show grounds. Each BIG MONEY Raffle ticket not only offers buyers a chance to win some serious cash, but also grants free admission to the HITS-on-the-Hudson Season Finale in September for the Diamond Mills $500,000 Hunter Prix Final, Pfizer $1 Million Grand Prix and The Temptations concert on Sunday, September 11.

“Kids Day is a wonderful chance for parents and children to enjoy a great afternoon together at the horse show,” said Michael Berg, Executive Director of FAMILY of Woodstock, Inc. “It’s one of our favorite events of the year!”
