Gulf Coast Winter Classic Week IV Hunter Update

Gabriella and Sarah Young win the $2,500 USHJA National Hunter Derby.

The USHJA $2,500 National Hunter Derby, presented by Tucci, saw 45 horse and rider teams compete for the win in the Main Hunter Arena Friday afternoon.

The competition was steep and the handy round challenged the riders with a natural trot fence which seemed to determine the win for the class.

Gabriella, owned by Lulu Davis and ridden by Sarah Young of Spring Hill, Kansas, won the class with a combined score of 181.

Second place was awarded to Life Is Good, owned by Missy Nolen and ridden by Timothy Maddrix of Birmingham, Alabama, who earned a combined score of 180.

Third place was awarded to Cordino, owned by Gina Gasko and ridden by Emily Hertz of Eads, Tennessee. The pair earned an overall score of 171.

Fourth place was awarded to Roland Park, owned and ridden by Dudley MacFarlane of Darien, Connecticut, for their overall score of 168.75.

Hertz returned for a fifth placing with Addison Bihm’s Forever. The pair earned an overall score of 167.25.

Sixth place was awarded to MTM Inquisitive, owned by Girling Farm, LLC and ridden by Madeline Odom from Austin, Texas, for their overall score of 160.5. Promise Me, owned and ridden by Anna Binder of Austin, Texas, earned a combined score of 163 and seventh place.

Cornedo, owned by Oceanview Equine, LLC and ridden by Hertz, was awarded eighth place for a combined score of 157. Girling Farm, LLC’s Everest, ridden by Rebecca Odom of Austin, Texas, was awarded ninth place. Tenth was awarded to Ddominicc, owned and ridden by Anna Corley, also of Austin, Texas. Eleventh place was awarded to Hertz and David Pellegrini’s Outspoken and Amy Valiollahi’s Energia, ridden by Holly Shepherd of Grand Bay, Alabama, wrapping up the class with twelfth place.

Dudley MacFarlane was awarded the Kastel Denmark Hunter Style of Riding Award. “Dudley is an excellent horsewoman and demonstrates good sportsmanship, and she and her horse are always turned out very well,” commented Bob Bell, Gulf Coast Classic Company President. “We appreciate Kastel Denmark providing us with this opportunity to recognize her efforts by awarding her this week’s Kastel Denmark Hunter Style of Riding Award,” he added.
