Wellington, FL – January 5, 2012 – The legendary rider, trainer, founder and president of Equestrian.Coach.com, Bernie Traurig, is slated to judge the College Preparatory Invitational (CPI) at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Wellington, FL.  The event runs from January 13th through the 15th.

“I am honored to be asked to judge this event and look forward to it. I was so impressed with the quality of riding at this spring’s IHSA Nationals and am anticipating much of the same here,” shared Traurig.

In its second year, the CPI provides college-bound high school students an opportunity to compete in a format similar to the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) while experiencing a world-class venue. The organizers of the CPI believe that equestrian talent, not finances, should dictate a rider’s opportunity to be a part of a collegiate team. The CPI provides the horses and tack for the show. Competitors incur no cost of transporting horses to the show. CPI riders compete on a level playing field aboard unknown horses before an audience of prospective equestrian collegiate coaches.

“I really like the format of this show and collegiate competition in general. It gives young people a new opportunity after their junior years,” said Traurig.

In addition to judging, Traurig will speak at 5:30 in the Special Events Pavilion on Saturday, January 14th.

“My presentation will demonstrate the educational opportunities EquestrianCoach.com offers to schools, colleges and organizations that provide riding programs or equine degree programs and will include a video presentation,” said Traurig.

Traurig is a uniquely gifted and rare talent. Throughout his career he excelled in multiple disciplines including equitation (winning both the AHSA Medal and the ASPCA Maclay), jumpers, hunters, eventing and dressage. Traurig represented the United States Equestrian Team both at home and abroad. He reached the top of the sport in three of the International Equestrian Olympic disciplines: show jumping, dressage, and eventing. In 2009 he was inducted into the National Show Hunter Hall of Fame. In 2010, the California Professional Horsemen’s Association honored him with their Lifetime Achievement Award.

As a horseman, Traurig is renowned for not only his riding talents but also his teaching and coaching gifts. He is one of the most sought after clinicians in the country today. His talent for teaching goes back to his roots.  From an early age, Traurig was educated by some of the country’s most highly regarded master instructors. He is currently the West Coast’s Associate Chef d’Equipe to George H. Morris, the Chef d’Equipe of the United States Equestrian Foundation’s Show Jumping Team.

With 53 years of training, riding techniques and experiences with thousands of horses, the CPI is the prefect occasion for Traurig to give back to the sport that has given him so much fulfillment and success.
