Aachen, Germany – Team USA notched another win today at the World Equestrian Festival CHIO in Aachen, Germany. Chester Weber and his four-in-hand team won the second dressage test in driving.
Weber handled the reins of Jane Clark’s team – Para, Senate, Splash, and Uniek – in the dressage test, which was a rating competition for team classification. Weber competed as an individual for the United States, and he was given scores of 193, 203, 194, 196, and 193 from the judges. He and his team received a total score of 34.69 for victory and the Prize of Martello Immobilienmanagement GmbH & Co. KG.
“It was spectacular,” said Ed Young, U.S. Driving Chef d’Equipe. “He drove a wonderful test. It really was flawless, and it went beautifully.”
Weber will compete tomorrow in the obstacles phase.
Madden Leads the Way for Show Jumping
Beezie Madden led the way for the U.S. show jumpers today in Aachen. She rode Prima, owned by the Neapolitan Holding Co. LLC, to first place in the Prize of Handwerk speed class. In the Nations Cup competition, Madden and Coral Reef Via Volo, owned by Coral Reef Ranch, posted scores of four faults and the team’s only clear round to lead the team.
Laura Kraut and Happy Hill Farm’s Cedric finished the Nations Cup with double scores of four faults, while Margie Engle and Indigo, owned by Griese, Garber, Gladewinds Farm and Hidden Creek Farm, had 12 and 16 faults. McLain Ward and Grant Road Partners’ Antares F had four and 16 faults. The U.S. team finished in sixth place.
After the two rounds the Dutch team proved victorious on 12 faults, three teams (Ireland, Germany and Great Britain) tied for second on 16 faults.
Earlier in the day, Kraut rode The Evita Group’s Dona Evita to seventh place in the Prize of H&T Automotive Components speed class and was seventh in the Sparkassen-Youngsters Cup with Woodstock O, owned by Joan Kalman and The Freedom Group.
Show jumpers have two competitions tomorrow and will be gearing up for the Rolex Grand Prix on Sunday.
CDIO Dressage Competition Begins
Steffen Peters and the stunning Ravel returned to Aachen and put in a solid performance today in the Grand Prix CDIO, the Prize of Teschinkasso. Ravel, who is owned by Four Winds Farm and Akiko Yamazaki, received judges’ scores of 79.894, 74.255, 76.702, 76.915, and 78.191, for a percentage of 77.191 and a fifth place finish.
Peters and the rest of the U.S. Dressage team will compete on Saturday in the Grand Prix Special CDIO.
