Ocala, FL (April 22, 2014) – Stating that he is “happy to serve,” 11-time U.S. Four-in-Hand National Champion Chester Weber of Ocala, FL has accepted an invitation from Melissa Boyd, president of United States Driving for the Disabled (USDFD), to provide expertise and assistance as a Selector in the identification of drivers to compete in the 2014 FEI Para-Equestrian Driving World Championships, June 27-29, in Sandringham, England.

Weber’s responsibilities, the USDFD president said, will include reviewing summaries of applicants’ general experience and show records since 2012, and conferring with other USDFD members before voting on the composition of the FEI Para-Equestrian Driving team. Qualifying competitions for the FEI Para-Equestrian Driving World Championships will be held throughout Spring and Summer 2014.

“Chester’s insights are greatly appreciated, especially given his vast knowledge of advanced and international competitions,” Boyd added.

Boyd’s instincts were on target:  Weber says he is ready to “help develop the sport on all levels. Moreover, while judging in California at Shady Oaks I was moved by many of the drivers and their connection to their horses.

“Para driving may be a smaller subset of our sport but nonetheless offers a championship level. Each and every driver can aid in the development of their sport.”

Weber also recently announced his candidacy to serve as a member of the FEI Athletes’ Committee, whose voting process, open to all FEI drivers, began Tuesday, April 15, at www.fei.org. In February 2014, he was named a USEF Senior Official, eligible to preside over USEF juries and ADS competitions, with ‘R’ status that will allow the two-time World Equestrian Games Silver medalist to pursue FEI judge status next.

U.S. Driving for the Disabled, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that seeks to improve the lives of physically-challenged individuals throughout the U.S. and Canada by providing the experience of driving horses in a safe and challenging environment.
