East Aurora, NY and Wellington, FL – March 28, 2012 – The winter show season has come to a close for young rider Charlotte Jacobs of North Star Ventures, but during her last week of competition she captured top honors in the jumper and equitation rings. Over the past 11 weeks, Jacobs competed at the Winter Equestrian Festival aboard her talented string of mounts under the tutelage of Missy Clark and John Brennan of North Run. During Week 11, Jacobs won the High Junior Jumper championship aboard her newest horse, Cyrina Z.

During Saturday’s speed class, Jacobs piloted Cyrina Z to a fault free effort that claimed the second place honors. On Sunday, the pair stepped it up for the $10,000 High Junior Jumper Classic. With a beautiful, clear first round they advanced to the jump-off with three other riders. They lowered the height of just one fence and their four-fault score led the way to earn the blue ribbon victory. Jacobs and Cyrina Z’s excellent performance throughout the division was eventually honored with the High Junior Jumper Championship.

“Cyrina Z was really great,” expressed Jacobs, who has only been paired with the mount for two weeks. “She’s brand new and this was our first time showing in the High Juniors. Going in, I thought if I had one or two down that would be ok because it was our week to move up and she’s a new horse. Going clear the first round was huge. Then during the jump-off, the riders before me each had two down, so I figured if I had one down I would be ok, but if I had two I would really have to go fast. I ended up having the first fence down, so I knew we had to click everywhere else, and she was great and jumped the rest of the round clear. She was really good, I am very happy with her.”

Jacobs added, “Cyrina Z is very easy, she’s got a big jump, and she’s naturally fast. She’ll jump from anywhere, but she’s really easy to find a good distance on; if you have a good gallop everything shows up.”

In the equitation ring, Jacobs was aboard her veteran mount Stallone VDL, and once again they were at the top of the leader board. In the WIHS Equitation, they took home the winning honors in the Jumper Phase and placed third during the Hunter Phase to earn the second place prize overall.

Jacobs then went on to show in the Fifth Annual George Morris Excellence In Equitation Classic. She and Stallone VDL were last to compete during the first round, but proved to be the best, earning an excellent score of 95 and advancing to the second round in the lead. At the end of the night they took home the fifth place honors.

“Stallone VDL has been absolutely amazing, he’s such a great horse,” expressed Jacobs. “I had to go last during the George Morris, which I hated. Normally when I walk the course and make my plan, then I can go in and do really well if I don’t watch any of the other rides. Sitting for 30 trips and watching different riders take different options made me question my plan a little bit, and I kept getting more nervous.”

Jacobs continued, “Once I got on my horse and felt like he was going well, I felt a lot better. It was a good course for him because there were a lot of options where I could show off. There were a lot of areas where you could do inside turns, but I chose to go around and be smooth. He was really great, I couldn’t have asked for anything more.”

Jacobs would like to extend a special thanks to Missy Clark, John Brennan, and the entire staff at North Run for all of their support during the 2012 Winter Equestrian Festival. Over the spring and summer, she will travel with the North Run team to compete at Devon, Spruce Meadows, Lake Placid, and Vermont.
