Chester County, PA (May 26, 2011) – Gold medalist Suzy Stafford, who has been long-listed for the 2011 FEI World Pony Driving Championships with her registered half Arabian mare Miss Josephine, will be judging the Brandywine Valley Driving Club’s Continuous Driving Schooling Event on May 28th at Canvasback Farm in Port Deposit, Maryland. Stafford, an award-winning international driver, operates Stafford Carriage Driving out of Chester County in Pennsylvania and Aiken, South Carolina.

“I am really looking forward to being part of the Brandywine Valley Driving Club’s (BVDC) Continuous Driving Schooling Event. This is a great way for me to give back to the local driving club,” Stafford said. “I will be able to give advice and tips in a non-threatening and relaxed atmosphere. I am hoping that everyone learns a great deal during the day.”

The Continuous Driving Schooling Event is a fun, low-key schooling event for everyone from new to accomplished drivers. “It will be a great event for new drivers because they can enjoy this relaxed event without feeling pressure. My goal is to give them plenty of friendly encouragement, teach them as much as possible throughout the day and help them fall in love with driving just as I have,” Stafford said.

Dress for the event is casual but correct: whip, gloves, apron and spares are required. Attendees must be a BVDC member to enter but are invited to join the BVDC. While the event is not an American Driving Society (ADS) recognized show, it will mostly follow ADS rules for an ADS style Continuous Driving Event with dressage, cones, cross country and gamblers choice. “It’s going to be an incredibly fun day. I can’t wait to meet new drivers and introduce them to my passion,” Stafford said.

Stafford’s passion has taken her from the United States to international venues across the world where she has competed in multiple World Pony Driving Championships. At the 2005 World Pony Championships Stafford won an Individual Gold Medal with Cefnoakpark Bouncer, a Team Bronze with Bouncer in 2007 and an Individual Bronze with Courage to Lead in 2009. “My goal for the 2011 World Pony Driving Championships is to win medals and represent the United States to the best of our ability,” Stafford said.

Stafford added that she is excited about Josephine’s natural ability and believes the pony has what it takes to succeed. “I am really excited to be chosen again to compete at the World Pony Driving Championships. I am also excited that Josephine is the first registered Arabian or part Arabian to ever compete on the team. She is definitely going to make history in Slovenia and I know Arabian fans everywhere will be pulling for her.”

Stafford and Josephine drove into the record books earlier this year when they won the Triple Crown of Driving for being the most consistent competitors at the Live Oak International, the Sunshine State CDE and Little Everglades CDE. “Josephine’s future is very bright,” Stafford said. “I am thrilled to be along for the ride!”
