1st Annual WHINNY Awards and 3rd Annual Conference a Huge Success!

The first annual WHINNY awards and the 3rd Annual Women in the Horse Industry Conference was a big success. The events were held October 6-8 in Nashville, Tennessee.

On Thursday night the red carpet was rolled out to identify and recognize people in the horse industry who are using their visibility to promote the welfare of the horse industry. Some of the WHINNY recipients who attended included Elizabeth Shatner (who not only received the award but picked up the one given to her husband Bill), country music superstar Lynn Anderson, Madeleine Pickens, Mike and Martha Borchetta, and Bonnie Garner. The event started off with live entertainment by some of country music’s most promising up and coming stars, including Keith Bryant, Dee Ann Dominy, Mark Wayne Glasmire, and Cassidy Lynn.

In addition to the live entertainment, there was both a silent and live auction benefiting several equine charities. Lynn Anderson served as the auctioneer and helped sell some wonderful items such as a signed guitar from the movie Country Strong by Gwyneth Paltrow and Tim McGraw and several paintings by Elizabeth Shatner. Some of the sponsors this year included Callaway Farms Manufacturing, National Equine Escrow, EasyMileLog, Equine Resources International, LLC, Tallgrass Animal Acupressure, and Energy Medicine, LLC.

Women’s Horse Industry Network Update Oct. 11, 2011

Hi Everyone!
Whew… I have now recovered from the events and have put a wrap up and photos on our website. So, please take a few minutes and see what’s there and send your friends who are not members to it as well. We’d like to let everyone know how successful things were.

We had a couple of big items that were not sold at the auction and I am going to make a list of them and let our membership and people who visit our website bid on them. They should be up by the weekend. These are really great items and I hope we can sell them and make even more money for our charities. We had a small profit from the event on Friday night and our four charities are going to get close to $600.00 each. If we can sell the other items, that will help them get a little more and as we all know, every bit helps.  Thanks to everyone who donated items for the auction and who bid on them.  Thanks also to our sponsors, National Equine Escrow (a fabulous idea and company), Equine Resources International, LLC (one of the best in the industry; we are sending Lua some get well wishes since she’s been a little under the weather), EasyMileLog (a product that’s a must have!), Tallgrass Animal Acupressure (the authorities on animal acupressure), Callaway Farms (great bedding products and they bought the Country Strong guitar!), and Energy Medicine (she had jury duty and couldn’t attend but she was there with us in “spirit”).

Interagro Lusitanos Hosts Successful 2011 Interagro National Auction in Brazil

Itapira, Brazil (September 5, 2011) – The 2011 Interagro National Auction at Interagro Lusitanos in Brazil proved to be a successful event with buyers purchasing 28 top quality Lusitano horses and foals. The auction not only gave buyers an exclusive opportunity to purchase Interagro horses, but it also gave them the opportunity to become part of the family of Interagro Lusitano owners.

“The National Auction focuses mainly on yearlings and a small number of young horses just starting training under saddle.  It exclusively offers Lusitanos bred by Interagro and gives clients a direct contact to the breeder with no secondary sales agent,” said Todd Grace, Client Services and Event Director for Interagro Lusitanos, the largest breeder and exporter of Lusitano horses. “As in years past, the auction was a great success.”

The auction attracted many breeders and Lusitano aficionados alike; however, most of the young horses were purchased by amateur riders that had come to the farm and tried them prior to the auction.  The average price of a horse purchased at the auction, before taxes and transport fees, was $10,900 with Decurio Interagro bringing in the highest bid at $24,540. The average price for a foal was $4,500 with Giotto Interagro bringing in $7,400. Many buyers attended with the hopes of not only finding their dream horse, but taking home a bloodline they wished to add to their stable.  Many horses at this year’s auction were from very desirable bloodlines.  Giotto, the high selling foal, is by Nirvana Interagro and this was the first time his foals were sold at auction.  Buyers were also presented with foals by Tufão Interagro, Profano Interagro, and Ofensor (MV). “All of the horses were amazingly calm considering the bustling crowd, music, and shouts of the dynamic bid spotters,” remarked Mr. Grace.  “It was quite incredible considering how young the horses are and that it was the first time any of them had been in that kind of public setting.”

While at the track fans are invited to stop by the Old Friends booth and learn more about the organization and its many retired equine athletes.

Horses Unlimited’s Mega Reduction Sale Gives Buyers an Opportunity to Purchase Some of the Best Bloodlines with Minimum $1000 Bid

Albuquerque, NM — Potential buyers will have a one-time chance to purchase horses from the heart of the herd of the nation’s leading breeder, Horses Unlimited. On Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. MDT, Horses Unlimited will sell nearly 40 homebreds via auction at their farm in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Rarely does an opportunity like this come along for sporthorse enthusiasts. “We have put together the best collection of horses we have ever offered for this auction,” says Anne Sparks, owner of Horses Unlimited.  Every horse that reaches the minimum reserve bid of $1000 will be sold. The collection includes a variety of hunters, jumpers and dressage horses. They represent some of the finest Hanoverian, Oldenburg, RPSI, Holsteiner and Westfalen bloodlines available anywhere in the world, including those of Donnerhall, Weltmeyer, Wolkenstein II, Sandro, Pik L, Leonberg, Hailo, Capitol and Quebec.  “After more than a decade, I’ve decided to scale back my breeding operation. I will still be involved, just with a smaller herd of breeding and performance horses,” added Sparks.

Currently ranked first on the USEF Leading Dressage Breeders list, Horses Unlimited has proven that Sparks’ breeding philosophies produce quality athletes that have successful performance careers. The Pik L son, Pikko Del Cerro HU, is the leading point earner on the list of fourteen dressage performers bred by Anne Sparks. Last week, Pikko del Cerro HU was fully licensed as a stallion by the American Hanoverian Society. Ridden by Olympian Lisa Wilcox, Cerro is currently eighth in the USDF Intermediaire I standings and thirteenth in Prix St. Georges. His sire, Pik L, is a proven producer and potential buyers can choose from ten of his offspring in Saturday’s sale.

Horses Unlimited’s top ranking was obtained from the performance of offspring by four of Sparks’ stallions. Eight of those are sired by Pik L, with Leonberg, Glorioso Noir and Galant du Serein siring the balance of performers.  Multiple offspring by these sires are also available in the herd reduction.

The 2011 Interagro Collection Auction & 12th Annual Interagro Foal Auction Gives Buyers Unique Opportunity to Purchase Lusitano Fillies plus Last Foals from Famous Stallion Ofensor (MV)

Itapira, Brazil (August 15, 2011) – Interagro Lusitanos, the largest exporter of Lusitano horses in the world, pioneered private auctions of Lusitano horses in Brazil 20 years ago, a tradition that continues today. The 2011 Interagro Collection Auction, which also features the 12th Annual Interagro Foal Auction, will not only give buyers the chance to purchase Lusitanos already being ridden under saddle, but will also give buyers the unique chance to purchase fillies, a remarkable opportunity as Interagro is not known for selling their mares.

“The auction, which will be held in Brazil at our family’s Interagro Lusitano Farm, will not only feature fillies for sale but will also be the last chance for buyers to purchase foals from Ofensor (MV), the most important Lusitano stallion in recent history. He passed away last April so this is a great opportunity to have one of his offspring,” said Cecilia Gonzaga, the daughter of Interagro founder Dr. Paulo Gonzaga, who manages the farm and its operations today. “The foal auction will also offer the first babies of Nirvana. We exported some young horses by him in private deals last year, but this will be the first time his foals will be available through auction.”

Interagro Lusitanos, the winner of the prestigious “Best Breeder of the Year” Award by ABPSL in 2009/2010, is well known for holding prestigious auctions both in the United States and Brazil. “Our 2011 auction will be held Saturday, August 27 in Brazil and will feature eight horses under saddle as well as three pairs of fillies and 10 pairs of colts,” Gonzaga said. “All of the adult horses in the auction have tested negative for piroplasmosis at the National Veterinary Services Laboratories in Iowa, and are ready to be exported.  We will also have Global Trans Connection (GTC) available to help our clients with exporting their horses and providing estimates.”  More information on exporting and GTC can be found on Interagro’s website.
