WHIA Partners with Equestrian Aid Foundation for Global Breast Cancer Campaign

The Women’s Horse Industry Association has announced a global partnership with the Equestrian Aid Foundation to raise funds for women affected by breast cancer. The Equestrian Aid Foundation is a 501c3, which provides financial assistance to equestrians, horsemen and equine professionals who are suffering from catastrophic illnesses or injuries. Funding is provided for medical, rehabilitation and other basic needs, such as food and housing.

Called “Ponie Express for Breast”, the campaign consists of trail rides and hikes around the world. The events are open to everyone who wants to support this cause and all proceeds will go directly to women in the equine industry who have been or who are currently dealing with breast cancer.

“This is a great cause and one that we know many people who have been affected by this disease will support. Plus, it’s a fun way to meet other equestrians and at the same time support women in our industry. The Equestrian Aid Foundation helps many people in the equine industry and we are looking forward to helping them raise more funds for their efforts,” states WHIA Executive Director, Catherine Masters.

Palm Beach Dressage Derby – March 3

Mary Phelps introduces Courtney King-Dye with Lendon Gray

The fourth annual Palm Beach Dressage Derby reception to benefit the EAF offered guests some surprises this year. We were honored to have special guest Courtney King-Dye there to say a few words on the one-year anniversary of her accident.

Excerpt from Courtney’s blog: ‘I’m speaking at the EAF fundraiser at the Palm Beach Derby, which is a great cause I’m all too familiar with now. I’ve been so lucky to have absorbed so much caring, but I know not everyone is so lucky simply because not so many people know. It’s very touching that the horse community supports each other in rough times. This is a way we can offer support even if we don’t know someone.’

ShoClothes sponsored a fun fashion show of the Alessandro Albanese clothing line. One of the six outfits was auctioned during the evening and was so popular, not one, but two were sold! Thanks to Michelle Hundt of ShoClothes and Alessandro Albanese for adding a touch of style to the party!

Wellington, FL (February 28, 2011) – Almost 300 guests were in attendance at the 2011 Lusitano Collection International Horse Auction when dressage rider Nancy Kempe purchased her dream horse, a beautiful Lusitano Isabel stallion named Cupido Interagro, that she described as “the love of her life.” The four-year-old stallion with a sterling pedigree was the highest selling horse at the glamorous auction, and Kempe’s story touched the audience and rounded out an evening filled with festivities and splendor set amidst the backdrop of the beautiful Jim Brandon Equestrian Center in Wellington, Florida.

The audience applauded for Kempe, who lives in Houston, Texas, when she hugged her horse during a touching awards presentation following the auction. Kempe was the highest bidder of the evening and won a beautiful brand new dressage saddle from Custom Saddlery as a result. Kempe was also thrilled to learn that she had won a complimentary weekend getaway from the Ritz Carlton Residences of Singer Island for being the highest bidder, and that she would get the chance to be pampered in a luxurious setting right on the ocean.

Kempe was given the opportunity to address the audience and explained in her heartwarming tale that she has a lung condition which made it difficult for her to sit the trot on the warmblood she already owns. Her trainer recommended Kempe buy a Lusitano and Kempe flew to Florida three weekends in a row to view and ride the horses available in the Lusitano auction.

Making Strides in the Ride for Hope!

The summer season came to a close with several terrific fundraisers. It was great to see so many people with a passion to help others in need.

“Back Where It All Began” held during the Hampton Classic Horse Show turned out to be a fun-filled, elegant event. Special thanks to the event chairman Stephanie Riggio for creating a successful evening.

More than 1,200 eventers joined us at the competitors’ party during the American Eventing Championships at Chattahoochee Hills in Fairburn, Ga. Great food, dancing and an auction completed the party.

The “Play It Forward” poker tournament in Las Vegas was great fun as the competition moved from the reining ring to the poker table. Special thanks to Mandi Brumley of Brumley Management Group and all our friends at the High Roller Reining Classic.
