Young Riders Jump to Second Place in CSIOY Hagen Nations Cup

Hagen, Germany – The four members of the 2012 Show Jumping European Young Rider Tour headed into Saturday’s Nations Cup at the CSIOJY Hagen looking to showcase the form that had propelled them to top results throughout the week. The U.S. had their work cut out for them as the top 11 European Young Rider teams lined up in the first round, making their task even more difficult as they had drawn first. The team of Catherine Pasmore, Alise Oken, Annie Cook, and Lydia Ulrich produced a solid effort, jumping to a second place finish for Chef d’Equipe Michele Grubb.

Following the first round the U.S. was tied for the lead with the teams from France and Norway on eight faults. In the second round, the U.S. again produced an eight fault performance, with the French just adding four faults to win the class. The team from Norway added twelve faults for third place.

Parker, CO — Summer in the Rockies II kicked off the second week of the Colorado Summer Circuit with a multitude of impressive horses and competitors from around North America. One of the first big classes of the week was the $10,000 Open Welcome Stake held Thursday afternoon.

Danny Foster’s track proved to be a technical one for the riders and horses, but a few particular pairs were able to conquer all of its obstacles. In first place, was John Pearce, riding his WEG partner Chianto to the victory.

“Today we saw a very challenging course, and it was a long course. It wasn’t real tall, but it was tricky. It was very technical, but obviously it rode well for me today,” said Pearce. This is not the Canadian Olympian’s first appearance at CHP, and he was seemingly thrilled to be back in Parker, stating, “It’s a great spot and I enjoy it thoroughly.”

The Rolex One to Watch for June 2012 is James Paterson-Robinson (AUS). Currently based at Ger Poels Horses stables in The Netherlands, the 33-year-old has jumped from 427th to 237th – a move up the Rolex Rankings of 190 places.

James established himself as a young talent when making his international debut at the Young Rider Challenge tournament in India in 1998. Two years later, at the age of 21, James moved from his hometown of Victoria (AUS), where he was based at Barwon Heads Pony Club, to pursue his riding career in Europe. In 2001 and 2003, James won the five-year-old division of the FEI World Breeding Young Horse Jumping Championships, and many other notable wins followed.

James and the 11-year-old black stallion, Niack de l’Abbaye, had many successes in 2010, having won the CSI4* Geesteren (NED) Grand Prix; finishing in second place in the Nations Cup at the CSIO3* Linz-Ebelsberg (AUT); finishing second in the Nations Cup at the CSIO4* Lummen (BEL); and placed 13th in the Grand Prix at the CSI5* San Patrignano (ITA).

Rich Fellers and Flexible Return to the Top at Spruce Meadows

Lexington, KY – The 2012 Rolex/FEI World Cup Champions have not been in the ring in six weeks – but based on their performance in the Husky Energy Classic on Thursday night at Spruce Meadows in Calgary, it didn’t make any difference.

Rich Fellers and Flexible bested a field of 19 and made it look easy, stopping the jump-off clock at 51.237 to score victory by just less than a second over Beezie Madden and Coral Reef Via Volo. This class serves as the first half of the final Observation Event for the US Show Jumping Team for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Fellers and Flexible jumped one of only three first round clears over the 1.60m track designed by Bob Ellis, and scored their third consecutive victory in a USEF Observation Event. With Harry and Mollie Chapman’s 16-year-old Irish Sport Horse stallion, Fellers took top honors at two classes at Del Mar in May, but since then Flexible has been waiting for Spruce Meadows to return to the ring. It was a detour from his normal schedule but with selection for the 2012 Olympic Games on the line, so far for Fellers, it has paid off.

Wellington, FL – June 14, 2012 – Peter Leone and Monica Carrera’s Lincourt Gino continue their consistent top placings at important Grand Prix events this spring. Last week, Leone and Gino were third in the $100,000 Purina Mills Grand Prix HITS on the Hudson in Saugerties, NY. They also had a good prize in the Level 7 Jumpers.

“We have been clear in the all of our last three Grand Prix first rounds,” said Leone. “In the first two, I rode aggressively in the second round, and had rails. This time I was the first of five to go in the jump-off. My plan was to be prompt and clear. I ended up with two clear rounds, and my time put me in third place.”

The week before last, Leone and Gino were fifth in both the $25,000 and the $75,000 Grand Prix at HITS-on-the Hudson. The pair won the G&C Farms 1.45m Open Jumpers in March and placed second at the $50,000 Live Oak Derby and fifth at the G&C Farms Jumper Derby at the FTI Winter Equestrian Festival with the fastest time. Gino also recently won the 1.40m at Garden State and was second in the Old Salem Spring $20,000 Speed Derby.

Jimmy Torano Wins His Second $5,000 Devoucoux Hunter Prix at HITS Saugerties

SAUGERTIES, NY (June 12, 2012) – Jimmy Torano continued to impress at HITS Saugerties when he captured the top prize in Saturday’s $5,000 Devoucoux Hunter Prix aboard Kathryn Haefner, LLC’s Venza to highlight HITS-on-the-Hudson III.

Torano of SW Ranches, Florida is now a repeat winner in the featured class for hunter riders as he took home top honors during HITS-on-the-Hudson I aboard Venza. On Saturday, Torano bested 64 horse-and-rider combinations that showed over Rian Beals’ first round course and the top 12 that returned for round two.

“It’s been a successful couple of weeks here in Saugerties,” said Torano. “There were more than 60 in this class and that shows how popular it has become. Anytime you need a pair of 90s to win a class shows how tight the competition really was.”

With two wins in the bag, Torano is well on his way to making an appearance in September’s Diamond Mills $500,000 Hunter Prix Final in Saugerties, New York.
