Ramiro Quintana Wins $40,000 HITS Grand Prix at HITS Culpeper

CULPEPER, VA (July 10, 2012) – Ramiro Quintana put just one month worth of work to good use as he piloted HH Narcos Du Marais to the top spot in Sunday’s $40,000 HITS Grand Prix, presented by Pfizer Animal Health, at HITS Culpeper. After just 30 days with the 11-year-old Selle Français gelding, owned by Double H Farm, Quintana found himself in the ribbons.

Despite a heat wave that blazed through much of the East over the weekend, horses and riders alike returned to HITS Culpeper to meet the Showday National’s qualifying opportunity for HITS Championship Weekend. Quintana of Wellington, Florida and “Narcos” led off the Sunday afternoon Grand Prix and were the first to go clear and pick up a qualifier for the famed Pfizer $1 Million Grand Prix. He met four other pairs in the jump-off.

“The course was certainly suitable for the conditions, considering the heat,” said Quintana. “I think five was the perfect number clear and the course seemed to ask all the right questions.”

July 7, 2012 – Fort Langley, British Columbia – Laura Jane Tidball and Liz Ashton took home the bonus money in the SSG Riding Gloves ‘Go Clean for the Green’ promotion during the West Coast Classic at Thunderbird Show Park in Langley, BC.

Fort Langley’s own Laura Jane Tidball was wearing her SSG ‘Digital’ Riding Gloves when she won the $5,000 Cobblestone Derby on Saturday, June 30, on Thunderbird’s grass grand prix field.  All but two of the competitors were wearing SSG ‘Digitals’, but it was Tidball who took home a $500 bonus from the Canadian glove manufacturer for sporting its brand.  An amazing inside turn in the handy round secured the victory for Tidball and Yesquero, a 12-year-old Argentinean Warmblood usually shown by Brent Balisky.

“I love the SSG bonus program,” said Tidball.  “I ride numerous horses in my SSG ‘Digitals’ every day, and the ‘washability’ of the gloves is a big plus.  I am very grateful for SSG’s generous sponsorship.”

International Bromont Is Ready to Welcome All Riders

Bromont, Quebec, July 6, 2012 – The International Bromont has once again planned improvements to the site of the Bromont Olympic Equestrian Park for its competition, starting next July 18.

“We have invested a lot in the renovation of the site over the past three years,” indicated the show organizer, Roger Deslauriers. “We want to keep the quality of our installations and of our competition rings, which is why we have retouched the footing again this year in order to offer our participants the best set-up available.”

As the 2011 event hosted a record number of horses and riders, the competition manager is hoping for the same in 2012. “Riders and trainers have until June 29 to send in their stall reservation and entry forms. We are on the last stretch for registrations and we are confident that we will surpass last year’s entries,” declared Roger Deslauriers.

Fabulous French Fly to Victory in Aachen

Aachen (GER), 5 July 2012 – In a super-tough clash that tested character to the limit, it was the French who came out on top at the fifth leg of the FEI Nations Cup 2012 series at Aachen, Germany tonight.

Henk Nooren’s team displayed grit and determination as they pipped the much-fancied host country whose deep pool of riding talent has been somewhat diminished in recent days.  An extraordinarily poor performance from the anchor partnership of Marco Kutscher and the stallion Cornet Obolensky has left even more questions hanging in the air ahead of Germany’s final Olympic selection next Sunday night.

The Irish battled hard to finish a creditable third ahead of Switzerland in fourth and Great Britain in fifth, while the 2011 winners from The Netherlands had to settle for sixth this time around.  The Swedish team was reduced to just three after a fall for Peder Fredricson and H&M Arctic Aurora Borealis in the first round, and they slotted into seventh ahead of the Belgians whose big score of 40 faults saw them tail the rest of the field.

Sweden to Show the Way at Aachen

Aachen (GER), 4 July 2012 – The Swedish team will be pathfinders around Frank Rothenberger’s daunting course as the fifth leg of the FEI Nations Cup 2012 gets underway at the prestigious Soers Arena in Aachen, Germany tomorrow night.

The draw took place this afternoon, and the order-of-go is as follows:  1, Sweden; 2, Switzerland; 3, Germany; 4, France; 5, Belgium; 6, Netherlands; 7, Great Britain; 8, Ireland.

With mounting tension ahead of the London Olympic Games which are now only a few short weeks away, some team managers will be fine-tuning their Olympic decision-making over the next few days, so there is little room for error on the part of riders.

And as the 2012 series moves past the halfway stage, the countries lying at the bottom of the league table are acutely aware of the need for improvement.

KEEN

Ireland is lying last, in eighth place, so Chef d’Equipe, Robert Splaine, is keen to register a good result this time out.  “We were quite good here last year, but we could do with a good score at this stage as we haven’t excelled ourselves so far in this year’s series!” he said.

The Classic Company’s Atlanta Summer II wrapped up on Sunday, June 24, 2012 and the hunters were out in full force! The Classic Company had an overwhelming popular response to its inaugural $25,000 Pony Hunter Derby which closed out the successful two weeks on Sunday. The course was set by noted course designer Alan Rheinheimer.

“It was really magnificent,” said Bob Bell, President of the Classic Company. “The trainers really liked it. It was a great opportunity to showcase their pony hunter talent.”

Of the thirty seven entries, it was Keep Dreamin’, owned by Katie Dinan, LLC and ridden by Ashton Alexander, who took the first place honors. Brad Spragg, Keep Dreamin’s trainer and owner of the Atlanta Hunt Club in Smyrna, Georgia, said, “She really did a great job. The pony is just wonderful. What a great class this is to showcase the up and coming talent in our industry.”

Atlanta II featured the always popular Outback Steakhouse Dinner to benefit Hope Clinic and everyone was treated to the Jump and Run Classic class and the $35,000 Outback Grand Prix saw 36 entries on Saturday night.

Besides two weeks of perfect weather at the international facility, riders were treated to weekly exhibitor parties.

VIP seating was available in the Grand Prix arena and was sold out as soon as it was announced. “We were really pleased with the overwhelmingly positive response and will definitely offer it again,” said Bell. “We will be offering dinners at the Fall shows, too,” he added. The night classes continued to see a packed ringside around the international stadium. “It’s so much fun watching the night classes,” said Dylan Thomas of Judy’s Tack Shop. “I get to see old friends and watch some great competition,” she added.
