Wellington, FL – January 21, 2011 – The Rost Arena got to an early start this morning with the many hunter divisions it saw today. The 2011 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival, which runs through April 3, awarded another of its championships today, this time in the Adult Amateur 3’3″ Hunters to Sheila Motley aboard Lansing.

Motley only just began riding Lansing, a Holsteiner gelding, for owner Richard Schechter. However, that did not stop the newly paired duo from taking top honors during week two at the FTI Winter Equestrian Festival. “He is so much fun to ride,” Motley said about her mount Lansing.

Motley clinched the championship honors this week by winning two classes, placing second in one class, and fifth in another class.

Reserve champion in the Adult Amateur 3’3″ Hunters went to Leah Schwendeman aboard the Woodland Way Inc. entry, Frankly Speaking. Schwendeman and Frankly Speaking won one class, placed second in two classes, and placed third in another class.

Wellington, FL and East Aurora, NY – January 18, 2011 – Charlotte Jacobs, of East Aurora, NY, was unstoppable in the equitation ring to kick off the first week of the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center.  Jacobs and her mount for the equitation ring, Cortes 7, won the Washington International Horse Show Equitation Class, after winning the Jumper Phase and placing fourth in the Hunter Phase.  Jacobs also won the USEF/Pessoa Medal and were awarded another blue ribbon for the excellent efforts in the prestigious ASPCA Maclay Class.

“Cortes was so amazing this week,” noted 15-year-old junior rider Charlotte Jacobs.  “It was so cold earlier in the week and I was afraid he was going to be a bit fresh.  He was absolutely perfect, and we both felt extremely prepared.  I think in the past year he has really grown up and his performance this week really showed that.  I am so proud of him and excited to continue to compete with him in the equitation for the rest of the season.”

Jacobs also competed aboard Karonda V. Schl’hof Ch and Promised Land, owned by Candy Tribble and Windsor Show Stables, in the High Junior Jumpers. Jacobs and Promised Land were third in the High Junior Jumper Classic after laying down a beautiful round against the field of several other horse and rider combinations.

January 17th, 2011 – Equus Events is very busy preparing for the 2011 show season.  The 2011 Atlanta Spring Premiere and Atlanta Spring Challenge will take place May 11-15 and 18-22 at the beautiful Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers, GA.  The Horse Park was home to the equestrian portion of the 1996 Olympic Games.  It is one of the premiere facilities in the country offering excellent footing, stabling, ample room to ride and much more on over 1400 acres.  This is the 7th year for the event and it will again offer exhibitors a “AA” USEF rating and also be a Jumper 3.  In addition, the shows will offer over $180,000 in prize money through out the two week event.

New this year, the Atlanta Spring Premiere (week 1) has been selected as a World Championship Hunter Rider event and will also host a USHJA National Hunter Classic.  The Atlanta Spring Challenge (week 2) will again host a $10,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby.  An additional $5,000 Open Jumper Welcome Stake has been added to the schedule for a total of two each week.  Prize money has also been added to the Low Jr/Am Jumper division and non-showing fees have been removed.  “Despite economic conditions these shows have continued to grow and I would like to thank all of our exhibitors and supporters for that,” said show manager J. P. Godard.

Wellington, FL – January 15, 2011 – The FTI Winter Equestrian Festival saw a busy start to its first weekend in the 2011 season. Competitors will be awarded numerous championships throughout the season, which runs through April 3. Today, one of those championships was presented in the Illustrated Properties Small Junior 16-17 year old Hunter division.

Shawn Casady of Midtown, TN, took the tricolor aboard Glass Castle. Elm Rock LLC owns Glass Castle, a 10-year-old Belgian Warmblood mare. “I’m very thankful to Susie Humes, Elm Rock LLC, and Ken and Emily Smith,” stated Casady.

Casady was more than happy with his results aboard Glass Castle, as this is only his second show on her. “She is a wonderful horse and beautiful to ride,” he beamed.

Casady secured the division championship in a field of 14 riders by placing first, second, fourth and fifth over fences, and placing second under saddle.

Jacksonville Winter Series Host a Global Opening Week

Green Cove Springs, FL – January 15, 2011 – Only the United Nations could compare to this week’s global gathering of delegates for the FEI World Cup Qualifier with 28 of the world’s best equine athletes looking to garner points towards a spot in the finals, held April 27th through May 1st in Leipzig, Germany. Kent Farrington, who divides his residence between Greenwich, CT in the summer and Wellington, FL during the winter, partnered with crowd favorite Up Chiqui claimed the first victory in Friday evening’s $31,500 CSI Welcome.

International great Guilherme Jorge (BRA) was tasked with creating a speed test worthy of 25 high performance horses, combining both physical and mental challenges. Set at regulation 1.45m (maximum height 4’9”) with a time allowance of 78 seconds, the biggest test may have been how quick riders could make a choice – coming off of fence #3 [oxer] should they take a sharp inside turn to the triple combination to 4ABC, possibly shaving off precious seconds, or play it safe and swing out wider? “This is sort of his [Up Chiqui’s] specialty, a speed round because he’s very, very fast, so the inside option is unnecessary because he can go just as quickly around a wider option,” Farrington complimented of his mount, 14-year-old Belgium bred gelding Up Chiqui.

Gulf Coast Winter Series 2011

Because of popular demand we have added Hunter Breeding to each week in Gulfport this winter. The classes will be held on Thursday mid day and will offer Yearling, Two Year Olds and Three Year Olds. Also, due to popular demand we will be adding a non restricted 1.0m Children’s Adult Jumper Division to run hand in hand with the Zone 4 1.0m Children’s Adult but will allow for cross entry into the 1.10 – 1.15 Zone 4 Children’s Adult Jumpers.

We are also very pleased to see so many exhibitors taking advantage of the reduced stall price if paid in full by closing date (Feb. 1). For those who have not fully read the prize list, the stall price this year is $225.00 per week but if paid in full by closing date, the price is $200. For stalls call 843 768 5503.

Jeff is putting the stalls up in Gulfport now so don’t wait too long to send in your camper or stall reservation. It’s going to be a great year in Gulfport with lots of new classes and new prize money offerings along with great improvements, like a new jumper rider’s lounge placed ringside jumper ring one.

Also, if you are tired of the cold and snow, of course you can come to Jacksonville, Florida (the only state in the country without snow) or come on down early to Gulfport. Call Janet at our office for more information about early arrivals: 228 669 2687.

Wellington, FL – January 13, 2011 – The 2011 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival runs from January 12 – April 3 and will host the sport’s most talented hunter and jumper riders. The first week of competition at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center continued today as professional riders sought championship honors in various hunter divisions.

This year, the High Performance Working Hunter division sponsored by The Sanctuary at PBIEC has been added to the list of divisions for competition. The new division is open to all riders and horses, and includes fences ranging in height from 4′ to 4’6″.

While eight horse and rider combinations competed over a two-day period, only one stood above them all. Kelley Farmer, riding her and Larry Glefke’s mount Rosalynn, topped the field winning all five of the division’s classes. The five-for-five winning streak was quite a feat for Rosalynn and Farmer as it is the first week of showing at the 2011 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival.
