KENKI TAKES INDIVIDUAL TITLE AS JAPAN DOES THE DOUBLE IN EVENTING

Guangzhou (CHN), 20 November 2010 – Kenki Sato claimed individual gold and helped Japan to secure the team title in Eventing at the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China today.  The Buddhist monk, who finished 35th with his other ride, Hop and Skip, at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Kentucky in October, was lying second with Toy Boy after dressage and added nothing further to his score to take the individual honours ahead of Korea’s Jai Sik Cheon.

Sato’s team-mate Yoshiaki Oiwa took individual bronze, and Japan scored a convincing victory in the team competition, finishing with a 26-point advantage over the silver medallists from Thailand while China pipped the squad from Hong Kong by the narrowest of margins in the battle for team bronze.

DOUBLE GOLD FOR KOREA IN DRESSAGE CHAMPIONSHIPS AT ASIAN GAMES

Guangzhou (CHN), 18 November 2010 – It was all gold for the Republic of Korea in the Dressage Championships at the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China this week.  On Sunday Dong Deon Kim, Kyun Sub Kim, Young Shik Hwang and Jun Sang Choi scooped the team title ahead of the host nation, and then Hwang, who celebrated his 20th birthday last Saturday and who dominated from the outset, came back to claim the individual title ahead of Malaysian siblings Quzandria Nur Binti Mahama Fathil and her brother Mohd Qabil Ambak Mahamad Fathil.

This was the fourth back-to-back team gold medal result for Korea, and their fifth in total since equestrian sport became part of the Asian Games programme at the ninth edition in Delhi, India in 1982.  The Asian Games is a multi-sport event staged every four years and the 2010 fixture, which began on 12 November and runs through to 27 November, includes a total of 476 events in 42 sports.  Riders from 16 countries are lining out in the three equestrian disciplines of Dressage, Eventing and Jumping.

WEG Competitor Tina Konyot to Teach Dressage Clinic at Waterbury Dressage Center

Warwick, NY (November 15, 2010) – Dressage rider Tina Konyot, who represented the United States at the 2010 World Equestrian Games on her magnificent stallion Calecto V, will be giving a dressage clinic at Waterbury Dressage Center, a world-class dressage facility near New York City. The Tina Konyot Clinic will be held December 10-12 and room is available for auditors.

“Tina is fabulous and I ride with her every time I get the chance. She has probably trained more Grand Prix horses from start to finish than any other woman in the country,” said Kathryn Theallet, FEI rider, owner and trainer at Waterbury. “Tina is a coach’s coach and she can really teach you how to get the most out of your horse.”

The clinic will feature riders from novice to the advance level, including FEI level dressage riders and trainers Theallet and Katja Eilers who will be participating in the clinic at the Grand Prix level. “Our students will also be participating in the clinic at the FEI level,” Theallet said, adding that an additional strong point of Konyot’s is working with problem horses.

Shelly Temple and Pony Pair Finish 2010 Season with a Win at Katydid CDE

The cold temperatures in Windsor, South Caroline did not dampen the enthusiasm of Shelly Temple, Cooper and Harry at the Katydid CDE.  Held at Katrina Becker’s Katydid Farm, the Katydid CDE featured four days of combined driving at the training, preliminary, and intermediate levels.  Shelly and her new combination of ponies, reigning National Champion pony Cooper, and former National Champion Harry, finished out their season with win.  Harry is owned by Jack Wetzel of Aiken, South Carolina.

“The ponies continue to come together as a team,” remarked Shelly after winning dressage with a 40.22.  “The boys will have a little time off then will be back to work to build on the foundation we established this fall.”  Saturday saw the team, including Shelly’s husband/navigator, Fran Doto, take 4th place in marathon yet preserve their overall 1st place standing.  Sunday’s cones competition featured another cool but sunny day, and a double clear round for Team Catalyst resulting in a first place in preliminary pair ponies in their second competition.

Dr. Cesar Parra Fine Tunes His Riding and His Horses in Germany with Hubertus Schmidt

Wellington, FL (November 12, 2010) – International dressage rider Dr. Cesar Parra, well known for his positive outlook on life and his winning ways in the dressage ring, is currently in Europe training with Hubertus Schmidt. Parra, a superstar dressage rider from Colombia who became an American citizen in December 2008 and now proudly rides for the United States, wowed dressage crowds from Wellington to Devon with his success during 2010.

“I feel very blessed to be training with Hubertus Schmidt,” Parra said. “He has such a fantastic way with the horses and we have a really good relationship working together. We are staying at his barn for a couple of months and hope to fine tune the horses, as well as myself, for the Florida competition season.”

Ken and Arle Adams Make Record-Breaking $5 Million Gift to USET Foundation

Gladstone, New Jersey – November 10, 2010 – The United States Equestrian Team Foundation is honored to announce a $5 million endowment bequest from Ken and Arle Adams of Wellington, Florida. This gift will mark the creation of the Ken and Arle Adams International Competition and Training Grant Fund. Providing an annual grant, the fund will add supplemental funding to the three Olympic disciplines’ High Performance programs: dressage, eventing, and show jumping. These funds further augment the international competition and training plans that repeatedly generate Olympic and World Championship medal winning performances. Grants of such generous nature are what allow the United States of America to remain at the top of the international equestrian sport.

“This extraordinary gift will be the largest gift ever made to the USET Foundation, and the Foundation is so grateful to Ken and Arle for their generosity. Leaving a dynamic legacy that will forever bear their name, the Adams’ gift will be a determining factor in this country’s ability to medal consistently in international championships in the future,” remarked Jane Forbes Clark, USET Foundation President and CEO.

Caroline Roffman Honored by HRH Princess Haya at FEI Awards Ceremony in Taipei

One American Rider Recognized at FEI Awards Ceremony

Wellington, FL (November 8, 2010) – Although she just turned 22 years old, dressage rider Caroline Roffman has already had many memorable moments in her career. Roffman can now add winning the 2010 FEI Rising Star Award to that list, along with flying to Taipei for a dazzling awards ceremony and accepting her award from Her Royal Highness Princess Haya, FEI President.

Roffman was named the 2010 Rising Star by the International Equestrian Federation and received her award at the 2010 FEI Awards ceremony in Taipei.

“I was both honored and astounded to win the Rising Star Award,” Roffman said.

Roffman said that being able to see Taipei and experience the culture in a different part of the world was an unforgettable experience. “The most amazing part of winning the award was getting to meet Princess Haya. I also enjoyed meeting the other winners and hearing their experiences,” Roffman said, adding that she also was honored to meet USEF President David O’Connor and Frank Kemperman, the Managing Director of the Aachen Horse Show.

Dibowski Wins First CCI4* but Fox-Pitt Takes a Second HSBC FEI Classics

Pau, 7 November – Andreas Dibowski (GER) finally achieved the CCI4* win he so deserves with an immaculate Jumping round in the most testing of conditions at a rain-soaked Les Etoiles de Pau (FRA), the final leg of the HSBC FEI Classics.

But William Fox-Pitt’s (GBR) second place on Navigator, who hit three rails, was still good enough to win him a second HSBC FEI Classics title in three years and US$150,000.

Dibowski, who has endured four runner-up spots at CCI4*s, earned a rapturous reception from an excited, if damp, French crowd. “I am really happy and excited,” he said. “After my Dressage (he was 11th), I didn’t expect to win, but everyone needs a little bit of luck at this level and today it was my day.”

Fox-Pitt was generous in defeat. “If someone had told me I’d be second at the start of this week, I’d have thought it was a dream. It’s the first time I’ve had a clear Cross-Country at Pau! And I had to stay in second place to win the HSBC FEI Classics, so I’m very relieved and pleased and pleased with my horse for coping so well.”

Fox-Pitt in Line for Double Glory in HSBC FEI Classics Thriller

Pau, 6 November – William Fox-Pitt (GBR) is in line for a memorable double – and a big pay cheque – having leapt into a commanding lead after Cross-Country at Les Etoiles de Pau (FRA), the final leg of the valuable HSBC FEI Classics, in which he also holds top position.

Fox-Pitt showed just why he is one of the world’s best horsemen, his magnificent round coming at the end of a dramatic afternoon’s sport in which Pierre Michelet’s (FRA) technically demanding track and the elusive optimum time of 10 minutes 35 seconds proved hugely influential.

He was only ninth after Dressage on the long-striding chestnut thoroughbred Navigator, who produced the second fastest time of the day despite taking two long routes. However, the pair survived a dramatic moment at fence 14, when the horse jumped strongly over the first of two angled houses and had to stretch over the second.

“He’s still a bit exuberant and tends to jump out of your hand,” explained Fox-Pitt, “but he’s a wonderful galloper and a lovely genuine horse.”
