Victory in The Boeing Company $25k Puissance Goes to Pablo Barrios at 52nd WIHS

Farrington and Pessoa Win International Open Jumper Classes; Polle and Weinberg Top Junior and Amateur-Owner Jumpers

Washington, D.C. – October 29, 2010 – The $25,000 Puissance sponsored by The Boeing Company is always one of the most anticipated classes of the year at the Washington International Horse Show (WIHS). This year was no different as Pablo Barrios (VEN) and G&C Blanchee Z, owned by G&C Farm/Gustavo and Carolina Mirabal, cleared a height of 6’1” for victory. In the $30,000 International Open Jumper 1.50m faults converted class, Kent Farrington (USA) and Up Chiqui raced to the win. Rodrigo Pessoa (BRA) scored his third win of the week in the $15,000 International Open Jumper 1.40m faults converted class with Palouchin de Ligny. Karen Polle on What Ever and Tracey Weinberg with Larone were victorious in the Junior and Amateur-Owner Jumper classes this afternoon.

The WIHS continues through Sunday, October 31 with the best hunter, jumper, and equitation riders in the nation competing for top prizes at Verizon Center in downtown Washington, D.C. The highlight class of the week is the $100,000 President’s Cup Grand Prix presented by Washington Convention and Sports Authority, CSI 3*-W on Saturday, October 30.

Thirteen-Year-Old Lillie Keenan Victorious in WIHS Equitation Finals

Washington, D.C. – October 30, 2010 – Tonight’s $100,000 President’s Cup Grand Prix presented by Washington Convention and Sports Authority, CSI 3* was an exciting example of the sport of show jumping and a qualifier for the FEI World Cup Finals in April. Two-time Olympic gold medalist McLain Ward of Brewster, NY, and Sapphire, owned by Ward and Blue Chip Bloodstock, came away with the win in the highlight class of the 52nd Washington International Horse Show (WIHS). Earlier in the evening, 13-year-old Lillie Keenan of New York, NY, won the WIHS Equitation Finals.

The WIHS continues through Sunday, October 31 with the best hunter, jumper, and equitation riders in the nation competing for top prizes at Verizon Center in downtown Washington, D.C.

Sapphire and Ward repeated the success that they had in 2008 in the grand prix at the WIHS when they were the fastest clear round in a jump-off of seven. There were 24 entries in tonight’s grand prix class, which was designed by Michel Vaillancourt of Aiken, SC.

Kelley Farmer Awarded Leading Hunter Rider Honors, Bolero and Arani Win Grand Amateur-Owner Hunter Championship

Washington, D.C. – October 27, 2010 – The 52nd annual Washington International Horse Show continued hunter competition for professional and amateur riders today, and a multitude of championship coolers, shining trophies, and fluttering ribbons were awarded. Maggie Jayne of Elgin, IL, rode Francesca for Pony Lane Farm to the Grand Hunter Championship. Kelley Farmer of Keswick, VA, was named the Leading Hunter Rider. Stacy Arani of Dover, MA, and Bolero picked up the Grand Amateur-Owner Championship, and Arani was named the Leading Amateur-Owner Rider.

The WIHS continues through Sunday, October 31. The highlight classes of the week are the $25,000 Puissance sponsored by The Boeing Company on Friday, October 29, and the $100,000 President’s Cup Grand Prix presented by Washington Convention and Sports Authority, CSI 3*-W on Saturday, October 30.

Rodrigo Pessoa Wins Both International Open Jumper Classes at the 52nd WIHS

Glover and Boggio Victorious in Amateur-Owner and Junior Jumpers

Washington, D.C. – October 28, 2010 – The fans at the 52nd annual Washington International Horse Show (WIHS) had a full day of exciting jumper competition to watch today. Rodrigo Pessoa (BRA) and HH Ashley, owned by Double H Farm, won the opening international jumper class, which offered $30,000 in prize money. Pessoa returned in the $20,000 Gambler’s Choice sponsored by Louisburg Farm and Beth Johnson to win with Palouchin de Ligny. Kristin Glover and The Boy Wonder topped the opening class for the Amateur-Owner Jumpers, and Chase Boggio guided Hennessey to victory in the Junior Jumpers.

The WIHS continues through Sunday, October 31 with the best hunter, jumper, and equitation riders in the nation competing for top prizes at Verizon Center in downtown Washington, D.C. Boyland and Weseley Capture Top Prizes in $10,000 Children’s and Adult Hunter Championships

Washington, D.C. – October 26, 2010 – The 52nd annual Washington International Horse Show began today with hunter competition for professional and amateur riders, who had the first classes of their divisions and finish for championships tomorrow. In the evening session, children’s and adult hunter riders reigned the ring.

Movado and Bailey Boyland won the $10,000 Children’s Hunter Championship, while Phoebe Weseley on Just Ask Me took the blue ribbon in the $10,000 Adult Hunter Championship. The WIHS continues through Sunday, October 31. The highlight classes of the week are the $25,000 Puissance sponsored by The Boeing Company on Friday, October 29, and the $100,000 President’s Cup Grand Prix presented by Washington Convention and Sports Authority, CSI 3*-W on Saturday, October 30.

Pablo Barrios and G&C LaGran Finish in Top 30 at 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games

Lexington, KY – October 13, 2010 – Pablo Barrios and G&C LaGran accomplished their goal of being in the top 30 riders in the world when they made the individual final at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG) in Lexington, KY. Barrios competed through all four individual rounds in the competition on G&C LaGran, owned by Barrios and G&C Farm. Barrios was also part of the Venezuelan team, the first time that the country has fielded a team in the world championships.

G&C Farm is based in Wellington, FL, and owned by Gustavo and Carolina Mirabal of Venezuela. Barrios, who competes for Venezuela, is also based in Wellington.

Barrios and G&C LaGran started out the WEG with a bang when they finished fourth in the opening individual speed round. Their time of 69.42 seconds was the fastest in the entire class, and with four faults converted for a final time of 73.42 seconds, they finished with a top placing.

“We had a very good speed class, the fastest time in the class,” Barrios said. “Unfortunately we had a rail, but it was enough to stay fourth. He’s a very fast horse, and that’s the kind of class that I can win. I went for it, but we were a little short.”

Melissa Feller Keeps Top Spot in ARIAT National Adult Medal Finals

Upper Marlboro, MD – October 8, 2010 – Scott Stewart captured his fourth win tonight in the WCHR Professional Finals, presented by the John R. Ingram Fund. Stewart persevered through four rounds against the five other best hunter riders in the nation to set the record number of wins in the 18-year history of the class. Earlier in the day, Melissa Feller kept the lead through two rounds for victory in the ARIAT National Adult Medal Finals, sponsored by ARIAT International, Inc.

The World Champion Hunter Rider (WCHR) Professional Finals consist of the top six ranked hunter riders in the country in head-to-head competition where they switch horses each round. Six judges at three positions scored the class: 1. Mindy Minetto and Steve Wall, 2. Rob Bielefeld and Randy Mullins, 3. Phillip DeVita and Bob Crandall.

Timothy Hooker Wins Der Dau 1.20m Jumpers

Hampton Falls, NH – September 15, 2010 – The Fidelity Investments Jumper Classic, presented by Porsche, started today with a great turn-out of competition at the Silver Oak Equestrian Center. Located in the beautiful seacoast town of Hampton Falls, NH, the Jumper Classic is New England’s premier equestrian event. This elite level competition attracts the country’s top riders, past Olympians and local equestrians who compete for over $200,000 in prize money. The Jumper Classic runs through Sunday, September 19, with the highlight class, the $75,000 Fidelity Investments Grand Prix, on Sunday. Olympic course designer Linda Allen is designing the tracks in the Coldwell Bankers Previews Grand Prix Field this week.

The first rider into the Shire Equestrian Winner’s Circle was Timothy Hooker of Lake George, NY, and Wellington, FL, on his horse Sovereign Mystery. They topped the 26 horse field in the Der Dau 1.20m Jumpers with double clear rounds and a jump-off time of 33.706 seconds. Second place went to Schuyler Riley on Conquest Z (35.444 seconds), while Caitlin Venezia finished third on Calmiro (35.595 seconds), owned by Olivia Magliochetti.

2010 Capital Challenge Horse Show Welcomes Qualifiers for THIS National Children’s Medal Finals

Upper Marlboro, MD – August 25, 2010 – The Capital Challenge Horse Show will once again welcome the top 40 qualified riders for the 2010 Taylor Harris Insurance Services (THIS) National Children’s Medal Finals. The THIS Finals will be part of the Capital Challenge Equitation Weekend, presented by Bigeq.com, held on October 2-3, at the Prince George’s Equestrian Center in Upper Marlboro, MD. The horse show will continue on October 4-10 with competition in the outdoor ring and indoors in the Show Place Arena.

The THIS National Children’s Medal Series is the perfect stepping stone for young riders and offer a great opportunity to compete in an indoor arena with the pressure of a finals competition. Riders must compete throughout the year to qualify for the Finals, which is a great goal for aspiring equitation riders.

The Finals themselves also provide riders a chance to learn with an opening round and a test for the top riders in the class. The National Children’s Medal is a proven leg-up for riders planning to advance to the 3’6” equitation division. Many of the riders who placed well in the Finals in past years have gone on to win numerous equitation finals.
